Justine Henin Opens
Florida Tennis Academy

Although located just 35 minutes from Walt Disney World Justine Henin opening her 6th Sense Tennis Academy at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Floridaand 30 minutes from downtown Orlando, the Mission Inn Resort & Club has rarely registered on tennis vacationers' radars. Its address in a town with the peculiar name of Howey-in-the-Hills sounds more Appalachian than Floridian even while the resort's name evokes Spanish-era California.

On September 27, 2008, all that changed, when former world No. 1 Justine Henin and her coach Carlos Rodriguez stood at a lectern on Court 2 to announce that their 6th Sense Tennis Academy was opening an American branch at this 200-room resort in the lake district of northcentral Florida and that renowned fitness guru Pat Etcheberry would be joining them. Recent Reviews

Here's a sample of recent critiques of the top resorts and camps by other vacationers.

Brady Tennis Camp, California
4-Ball Rating "My daughter went to the ranked players week and enjoyed it tremendously. Everyone enjoyed playing lots of tennis and she said during free time she was so tired she fell asleep. She was very impressed with the quality of play of the kids and counselors. They met her flight at the airport which is very close by the camp. Thanks to the Brady's for taking such good care of a 14 year old traveling alone!"—N.E., Adv. Int., September 2008

Caneel Bay, A Rosewood Resort, U.S. Virgin Islands
5-Ball Rating "We absolutley LOVE the Caneel Bay tennis center. Marty is both helpful and knowledgable. He does a great job of coordinating play for the gusts with the correct level of opponents. The courts and overall facilites are exceptional, not to mention the breathtaking views. This is one of the reasons why we continue to return Caneel as our top ranked Caribbean resort!"—M.P., September 2008

Port Royal Racquet Club, South Carolina

ROGER COX has spent more than 25 years writing about tennis travel. That long stint included a 17-year stretch for Tennis magazine, during which he visited more than 300 tennis resorts on five continents and personally participated in over 50 tennis camps—several of them more than once. His informed perspective on the entire tennis resort and tennis camp landscape underpins this web site.
No resort paid to be surveyed here. These are not ads but reviews based on Cox's broad, firsthand knowledge and on the wisdom of the Tennis Resorts Online visitors, who are invited to comment about their own vacation experiences. The point of it all is to help you make better choices about where to take your next tennis vacation.
Apart from his stories for Tennis, Cox has written hundreds of additional articles—mostly about travel and occasionally illustrated with his own photos—which have variously appeared in Budget Travel, Continental Magazine, New York Magazine, Travel & Leisure, Esquire, Money, Working Woman, GQ, Tennis magazine, Tennis Life Magazine, USTA Magazine, Diversion, Men's Fitness, Men's Journal, The Robb Report, New Choices, New England Tennis, Bridal Guide, and For the Bride, among numerous others. He has also written two books—The World's Best Tennis Vacations (Stephen Greene Press/Viking Penguin, 1990) and The Best Places to Stay in the Rockies (Houghton Mifflin, 1992 and 1994)—and the Melbourne (Australia) chapter to the Wall Street Journal Business Guide to Cities of the Pacific Rim (Fodor's Travel Guides, 1991). He is probably on the road somewhere right now.
