This Club Med on a 20-mile stretch of beach at the eastern end tip Tennis at Punta Canaof the Dominican Republic is now the latest of the collection to offer the ATP Tour tennis program on its 10 hard courts (the program begins March 10, 2002). The program was introduced after the Club underwent $35 million in improvements, which doubled its size to 74 acres and upgraded the 543 rooms. Long known for its circus workshop, this particular Club also appeals to families with its Petit, Mini, and Junior Club Meds for children ages 2-13.

It's been years since I personally visited this Club, which means I don't have first-hand knowledge about the renovations or the tennis programs there. If you do, please send in a report so others have a sense of what the Club is like for tennis players.

Tennis Programs. As at Paradise Island and Sandpiper, Punta Cana offers the three-day ATP Tour program as an optional extra. It runs for three hours (with sections for beginner/intermediate and advanced players) and covers the basic strokes, tactics, elements of the modern game, a throws in a few trick shots for fun. If you opt not to sign on for this option, then you can still get free group instruction (there are one-hour sessions for beginners, intermediates, and advanced) though the student:pro ratio there is likely to be higher than the 6:1 maximum maintained in the ATP Tour program. Either way, there are also a variety of tennis socials and tournaments in the afternoon.
Courts & Fees. There are 10 hard courts. Court fees: None.
