A Different Way to Return Home: Discovering Sardinia’s Blue Zone Through Centenarian Rituals

For today’s active traveller, a great holiday is no longer measured solely by the hours spent on court. Whether the day begins with tennis, padel, or a morning workout, the most rewarding journeys continue beyond sport, revealing the culture, traditions and sense of place that make a destination truly memorable. It is about authentic experiences and a genuine sense of wellbeing that remains long after the holiday ends.

Few destinations embody this shift quite like Sardinia and Forte Village Resort.

Celebrated for its crystalline waters and unspoiled coastline, the island is also home to one of the world’s most fascinating longevity regions. In southern Sardinia, generations have embraced a lifestyle shaped by movement, meaningful relationships, nourishing food and a deep connection with nature.

Inspired by this extraordinary heritage, Forte Village has created Centenarian Rituals, a three-day immersive experience that invites guests to discover the island through the traditions and daily rituals that have shaped Sardinian culture for centuries.

The journey begins in Teulada, officially recognized in 2023 as one of Sardinia’s newest Blue Zone communities. Walking through its quiet streets alongside local guides, guests meet one of the village’s centenarians, sharing stories that cannot be found in books. Traditional crafts come to life through demonstrations of embroidery, bread and sweet-making, before guests gather around the table to discover local flavours and the importance of shared moments.

The following day leads to Capo Spartivento, where one of southern Sardinia’s most spectacular coastal paths reveals the island’s untouched beauty. More than a hike, it is an invitation to embrace one of the simplest principles of Blue Zone living: natural movement, surrounded by nature. The experience continues back at Forte Village, with a tasting of Cannonau, Sardinia’s iconic red wine, deeply connected to the island’s culture and traditions.

Guests can then unwind at the renowned Acquaforte Thalasso & Spa, where a six-pool seawater circuit combines minerals, different temperatures and the restorative properties of the Mediterranean to encourage relaxation and balance. This journey concludes in the kitchen, preparing traditional Sardinian recipes alongside local cooks and discovering how generations-old techniques continue to nourish both body and community.

What makes Centenarian Rituals unique is not the promise of a longer life, but the opportunity to understand the lifestyle behind Sardinia’s extraordinary longevity. It is an experience built not around extraordinary discoveries, but around ordinary moments lived extraordinarily well.

Because perhaps the greatest lesson of the Blue Zone is that wellbeing is not something to pursue occasionally. It is something woven into everyday life.

And sometimes, the most meaningful souvenir is not something you can pack in a suitcase, but a different way of living that quietly follows you home.
