At Boar’s Head Resort, tennis isn’t just another amenity. It’s a centerpiece to the property and a main reason why there’s a continued draw to Charlottesville. Not only does Boar’s Head hold the home courts to the University of Virginia Men’s and Women’s teams, but it’s also the host location for several impactful tournaments and fundraisers.
Recapping the Recent Jonathan Fried Pro Challenger Tournament
Boar’s Head Resort once again hosted the Jonathan Fried Pro Challenger, a professional men’s event on the ATP Challenger circuit. The tournament ran October 26 – November 2, 2025 and featured a $100,000 prize‐purse. This year’s singles champion was Rafael Jodar, who is also a member of the University of Virginia men’s tennis team, so he was able to hoist the trophy on his home courts. The event serves not just as a tennis competition, but it’s also a fundraising vehicle: proceeds from the tournament benefit Special Olympics Virginia.
For guests and spectators staying at the resort during the tournament, this is a rare chance to watch high-level professional tennis up close in an intimate resort setting — not a distant arena. Plan your Fall 2026 trip accordingly if you’re interested in locking in your stay during the tournament.
Looking Ahead: 2026 XPerience Tennis Invitational
The indoor courts at Boar’s Head will soon welcome athletes from across the country for the Special Olympics Xperience Tennis Invitational, one of the most uplifting and community-driven tournaments in the region. It’s the perfect reflection of what Boar’s Head does best: pairing elite facilities with events that elevate the sport and everyone who plays it. Each year, upwards of 30 elite Special Olympics athletes come from multiple states across the country to compete.
The Xperience Tennis Invitational will take place January 2 – 4, 2026. Organized by Special Olympics Virginia, it’s an annual tournament that reminds us that there’s so much more to tennis than what happens inside the lines. During the event, the indoor courts in Charlottesville become a site of meaningful sports inclusion, spotlighting a broader purpose beyond elite performance.

🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾 “Great tennis experience over three days in spectacular Charlottesville. Tennis instruction was excellent and geared towards doubles play. Facilities are the best around for indoor courts and use if the fitness center was a plus.”
🎾🎾🎾🎾🎾 “My ladies tri-level team (3.0, 3.5, 4.0) held a weekend retreat at Boar’s Head with Brian Glass and different coaches. Our main goals were to work on our volleys, doubles strategy, and overall practice and have fun together. Brian was able to squeeze us in over a holiday weekend–which I think was very lucky considering they book out in advance. I would make sure to plan ahead as it seems their availability is limited. Brian was very communicative and receptive to what we wanted to work on–especially since our level was spread out between 3.0-4.5C. Our classes were two 3 hour sessions and one 2 hour sessions on 3 courts with 3 coaches for the 11 of us. Brian and team kept things moving and we had a lot of reps and ran through many different drills. The instruction was high quality and there were a lot of different phrases that we learned to help us remember all the great tips! The facility was also very high quality–we were provided towels, beverages and a Boar’s head hat which was nice. And there are multiple steam rooms and saunas for post-tennis relaxation. Half of us stayed at the resort which was very nice, and the other half at a nearby vacation rental which helped with affordability. Would highly recommend to teams and would love to go back. Thanks Brian and team!”
