Dr. Dave Marshall, who has long been a fixture in Delaware tennis, operates the Dave Marshall Tennis Center at the Plantations, a seven-court club in the gated community of Plantations Resort.
The complex has three indoor hard courts and three Har-Tru and one hard court outdoors, the last with courtside covered seating, as well as a swimming pool, fitness center, and a Pilates studio. A former college player, with a doctorate in history, Marshall has gone on to multiple state and national championships, both age and NTRP divisions, in singles, doubles, and mixed, and he has lately been traveling with the Bryan Brothers. Since he is not at the club full time, he specializes in putting together custom-designed programs for groups to coincide with the times when he is at home, recruiting former touring pro Ellis Ferreira, who is there nearly full time, to help out. He also offers pickleball on a dozen temporary courts. Although lodging at the Plantations is limited (some is available through selected real estate agents), Marshall and his staff can find a variety of other nearby lodging in the area, including houses, condos, and hotels.

I did the tennis and pickleball weekend. The tennis was great, we were able to learn from Dave who has won Wimbledon and the US Open- so that was a highlight. The tennis facilities include both hard surface and clay courts, and air-conditioned indoor courts are a real plus! Pickle ball is offered as well and is extremely popular. In addition there is a beautiful pool and a well equipped fitness center at the facility. All of the facilities are well maintained. The professional staff is the main reason this is a great place to take lessons and play. I’ve taken lessons from Dave Marshal and three of his professional staff. The competence of the staff is one of the reasons that this will be my third return visit. The individualized instruction has helped me to improve my game throughout my stay in Rehoboth. The quality of the instruction is exceptional. When not playing, I watch with amazement the adult and junior clinics that are available. Participants work hard while having a great time. There is an authentic commitment to building tennis skills as well as character. The facilities are great but it’s the people who make this a special place with Dave Marshal setting the tone.

A high-energy clinic which largely focuses on doubles strategy from a Grand Slam-winning doubles coach that specifically focuses on how to win points, games and matches. These are the same drills Dave uses with his pros currently on tour. In many cases it involves re-wiring what your brain has been taught for decades, in order to produce success, rather than focusing on repetitious drill or stroke mechanics. I have also organized women’s tennis trips to come play with Dave Marshall. When he’s not at his own tennis club, Dave is traveling with pros and coaching on tour. You can’t get better instruction than somebody who is currently a pro coach!
Dave Marshall is the best tennis clinic orchestrator and tennis coach! The clinics are so much fun and full of energy. The staff and players are very congenial and welcoming. It’s a great environment for tennis lovers of all ages and abilities!
