When the Four Season Resort Nevis opened in 1991, it guaranteed that it would attract the attention of tennis players by building a racquet sports complex with eight hard, red clay, and artificial grass courts and later supplemented those with four pickleball courts, all wrapped around the central plaza of the Sports Pavilion. Although the tennis still has to compete with the beach—a battle it will almost always lose between the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.—and it also share center stage with a Robert Trent Jones, III golf course laid out on the slopes of the 3,232-foot dormant volcano of Nevis Peak directly behind. Nevertheless, this has emerged as one of the foremost tennis destinations in the Caribbean.
A tiny volcanic island, roughly 8 miles in diameter, Nevis lies just across a shallow channel called The Narrows from its sister island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean’s Lesser Antilles. The name derives from the Spanish “Nuestra Señora de los Nieves,” which means “Our Lady of the Snows,” presumably for the white clouds that often shroud the top the Nevis Peak. In the 18th century, its sugarcane plantations generated so much wealth for its then British inhabitants that it came to be known as the “Queen of the Caribees.” Old sugarcane mills still dot the landscape, and several of plantation great-houses have been converted to inns. Elsewhere, Georgian stone buildings survive in the capital city of Charlestown and in several of the island’s numerous churches, including St. Paul’s Anglican Church, which dates to 1830.
Ultimately, though, what I remember most from my visits to Nevis are the warm, genuinely friendly people. And one place to meet them is on the tennis court. Peter Burwash International has managed this tennis facility since the resort opened. Almost since the beginning, the PBI pros here have sought to involve the hotel’s management and staff in tennis, and to encourage local participation, with the quite practical goal of having a diverse stable of players to draw on when guests come looking for matches.
Tennis Staff: PBI pro Eric Thorel directs the programming. Originally from France, Eric has run racquet programs with Peter Burwash International for over 30 years at some of the top clubs and resorts worldwide. In his formative years, Eric played competitively and attended a High-Performance Coaching & Management internship at the IMG Academy in Florida. He is also a certified USPTA Elite professional, PTR L2, USTA Sport Science and Youth Development. He inherits a well-run program of private lessons, adult clinics, game matching, and a weekly social mixer that brings together locals and guests. There's also a "Never Touched a Racquet" clinic which introduces new comers to the basic skills of hitting a tennis and/or pickleball. During school holidays, the resort offers "Red-Orange-Green" junior clinics, and Eric is now training the St Kitts & Nevis U12-14-16 national juniors.
The racquets facility is also open to the residents, and a ball-machine is available, so there's no shortage of hitting and playing opportunities, especially during the high season.
Court Complex: Laid out singly or in pairs, the two hard courts—one with bleachers—two artificial grass courts, four red-clay courts, and four pickleball courts wrap around the two-story golf-and-tennis clubhouse in an area of the resort known as the “Sports Pavilion,” which also encompasses the spa and fitness center. Weathered wooden pavilions at the edge of the courts provide shade, benches, and a supply of chilled water, tropical fruit juice, towels, and scented chilled towels. Five of the courts have lights. In addition, the resort has four pickleball courts to take advantage of the growing interest in that racquet sport.
Off Court
Beach: Pinney’s Beach stretches for four miles along this western coast of Nevis. The section that borders the Four Seasons has a berm seeded with low grasses and plants to protect the resort from the sea. Four supremely comfortable beach houses, each with a flat-screen TV, room service, and lounge chairs, stand atop the berm and can be rented for the day. Behind them and to the east is an infinity pool and wading pool for families, the open-air Caribbean-American On The Dune, and the watersports center, which has Hobie cats, kayaks, seaboards, paddleboats, snorkel gear, stand-up paddleboards and more—non-motorized equipment is complimentary. There is another, quieter pool for adults only at the southern end of the property.
Golf Courses: Designed by Robert Trent Jones, III., this 18-hole course climbs up and down the lower slopes of the 3,232-foot dormant volcano of Nevis Peak. The 15th is among the most spectacular, requiring a 240-yard carry across a ravine to reach the fairway while green vervet monkeys provide commentary from the adjacent trees, though for stunning views, the 9th hole stands out, a fairway that spills down the mountain slope toward the Caribbean and St. Kitts beyond.
Spa & Fitness Center: For tennis players, the Sports Pavilioncould scarcely have a better location, just off the plaza that borders the courts. The Fitness Center contains an array cardio machines, each with its own TV screen, arrayed along a wall with windows on the tropical foliage and Nevis Peak outside. Behind those machines is a row of LifeFitness stations, supplemented by dumbbells and freeweights. The Spa has a dozen treatment rooms, six of them in tiny cottages with cedar-shake roofs, yellow clapboard siding, and white gingerbread trim. They flow through a courtyard filled with tropical gardens. Guests can use the time before or after treatments to relax in an air-conditioned lounge or sit outside on a covered patio paved with stones or around a plunge pool with views of Nevis Peak or around a second pool with a waterfall. Treatments range from a variety of traditional massages to body wraps, skin-care services, manicures, and pedicures. Room service delivers spa cuisine.
The resort also offers scuba diving lessons and boat dives, catamaran snorkel tours, deep-sea fishing excursions, guided kayak tours, and a Laser sailing school.
Children's programs: The “Kids for All Seasons” program accepts children ages 3 to 9 for a full-day of supervised recreation, creative and educational activities highlighted by a sea turtle education program that focuses on Nevis’s endangered sea turtles. For others, there is an air-conditioned games room with Foosbal, a pool table, various board and video games.
Dining: The signature restaurant is the new EsQuilina, which offers breakfast buffet in the morning and a vibrant Mediterranean-inspired menu in the evening. My favorite, however, is Mango in a former plantation beach club at the northern end of the property. Steps from the water and open to the breeze, it specializes in West Indian-inspired fare like crab and mango salad, Mango’s famous glazed ribs, locally caught whole fried snapper or a Caribbean roti, washed down with, say, a Mangojito made with the local Brinley mango rum. In addition, there is the On the Dune restaurant and bar near the beach and pool for light fare during the day and Kastawey, a beach bar located at the southern end of the property, serves up creative rum cocktails and light bites featuring locally sourced ingredients from land and sea.
As an alternative, you can catch a cab to dine at Montpelier Plantation or the Golden Rock Inn, or stroll up the beach to celebrity favorite Sunshine’s (don’t miss their Killer Bees, a rum drink), Chevy’s, or the Double Deuce.
Accommodations
The resort comprise both rooms and suites and luxury villas. The rooms and suites can be found in two-story, shingle-roofed clusters faced in weathered wood and white stucco with latticework trim. In general, they follow the curve of Pinney’s Beach behind an expanse of lawn, gardens, and the occasional palm tree. These are spacious, light-drenched accommodations have been decorated in chic Caribbean style. First floor rooms open out onto patios and thus have direct access to the beach; second-floor rooms afford more privacy and have balconies. All are equipped with a variety of creature comforts, including flat-screen televisions, coffee makers, complimentary WiFi, and oversize marble baths with soaking tubs and separate walk-in showers. And in a boon to tennis players, each cluster of rooms has a free guest laundry (there’s even a package of detergent)—something you rarely find at an upscale resort but one that also partly explains why Four Seasons Nevis is popular with families. The luxury villas range from one to seven bedrooms and feature large living areas, fully equipped kitchens, and expansive balconies and terraces along with private pools or plunge pools.
Getting there
Travel Instructions: The nearest airport is Vance W. Amory International Airport (NEV) at the north end of Nevis, which has service from Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands. The alternative is Robert Llewllyn Bradshaw International Airport (SKB) on the nearby island of St. Kitts, which has direct flights from Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, New York, Newark, Toronto and London. The Four Seasons staff provide transport from the airport by private taxi and boat directly to the resort pier.
Amazing hotel–nicest I’ve ever stayed at. Great tennis program.
BL
great instruction by the pro. excellent clinics. Will help you find games with players on your level. Plenty of courts. Friendly caring instructors.

The tennis experience was awesome! Daily clinics, the round robin, and arranged matches filled my week with lots of great tennis.

Having visited the Four Seasons Resort in Nevis for the seventh time now, we have yet to come home not wanting to go back. Each year, every element of the hotel lives up to its expectation. For me, the tennis and golf are the highlights each time we return. This is due to the dedicated sports instructors and staff who put together a terrific programme. Chris Myrold, who organises the weekly tennis programme, is an enthusiastic coach and a joy to work with. He ensures I always get a few matches while I am there on holiday either with guests of the hotel or locals players from the island. His clinics are great fun and everyone comes away with a smile on their face! Without a doubt, Chris and the tennis programme is one of the main reason why we return to Nevis most years. Highly recommended!

Four Seasons Resirt Nevis remains my top holiday destination. I cannot fault the resort. The accommodation, food and staff are second to none and the hotels setting on the beachfront is wonderful. The site also offers a fantastic a fantastic golf course with some breathtaking views. The tennis at Four Seasons Nevis is equally as good as the food (and I enjoyed plenty of both)! The current pro on site, Chris Myrold, makes every session fun and enjoyable even if you’ve had to get out of bed for 7am! There was not a single clinic or one on one lesson which I didn’t enjoy. Can’t wait to return again.
AM
Excellent facilities and coaching. Chris is always friendly, encouraging and professional. My youngest son thoroughly enjoyed his lessons and improved his game during our stay at the Four Seasons in Nevis. The clinics are fun as is the weekly ‘mixer’. All added to the enjoyment of our stay.
GK
Beautiful and well maintained tennis courts. excellent tennis coahes and staff at pro-shop. Ranjeet Hira coached by 12yr old son and gave hime plenty insightful tips and advice.
ME
My husband and I just spent a week at the Nevis resort and had an exceptional tennis experience. I had a private lesson and clinic with pro Ranjeet Hira daily and my game really improved. Ranjeet tailored his instruction to my individual game and really broke down my strokes in a way that no instructor has ever done. I left with so many take home pearls-he even made me a summary for me of the the salient teaching points we had covered. I can’t say enough positive things about my week!
LG
The number of courts and the quality of the coaching are the major strengths. I suppose the weather, although Hot there was some rain during the day, was the only real negative, but I cant say it affected me.
MM
Both the resort and the tennis facilites and staff are exceptional. My private lessons were tailored to my game with a focus on improving certain key areas that I requested. The round robin mixer was well organized and attended. I would would highly recommend visitng the resort and playing a lot of tennis with other guests and the pro staff.
LH
The tennis program at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis is amazing. The staff is wonderful and friendly. The island itself is gorgeous and the resort is heaven.
CW
The Four Seasons tennis resort on Nevis outstrips other European and Caribbean hotels and resorts visited on four key points. The location is stunning with the backdrop of Mount Nevis, the beach frontage onto a turquoise Caribbean sea surrounded by Royal Palms, the richness of the fauna and flora – a sky filled with magnificent frigates and Pelicans, and light refreshing breezes which are conducive to tennis under a Caribbean sun. The hospitality of the Tennis Resort staff is professional, warm, and intelligent. The courts are numerous and in exceptional condition and the choice of clay or hard court appealing. The tennis programe throughout the week successfully caters for all levels and individual coaching from the Pro, Chris, is stimulating and game changing. The tennis resort’s commitment to the local community is admirable in its objective of introducing tennis to young Nevisians. There are no weaknesses, whenever we visit Nevis the Resort and the Tennis Centre always deliver on expectation.

I loved Chris! He’s the BEST!!!

At this resort you can have a full sports week. You can play tennis with great pros morning & evenings and in-between you can sail, do yoga, bike around the island, climb the peak of Nevis or participate in our yearly Triathlon. And if that does not do it for you. What about a round of golf. Nevis Four Seasons Resort can make your stay the most sportful and peaceful at the same time. Here it’s something for everybody!

My family and I visited the FS Nevis for Spring Break. We all love playing tennis. Chris and Eva were amazing coaches! Professional, full of energy and they taught us a few good tricks. Daily clinics are super fun (including “cardio tennis”), mixers and a great program for kids. All with outstanding surroundings and super friendly staff. Definitely, our tennis experience makes it worth coming back! It was our best vacation ever!
KC
A relatively new tennis player, I found the Nevis Four Seasons tennis staff to be accomodating, informative and professional – all in an exquisite tropical setting. The ocean spans in front of you and the lush green mountain looms behind you as you play tennis. After a quick rainshower, there was a rainbow connecting ocean & mountain – perfectly stunning.

It was a long travel from Germany to come over to Nevis for our 15th wedding anniversary. But it was all worthed. I am very sporty compare to my husband. We both had the best time of our lifes. Him relaxing ,reading and enjoing some cocktails- me playing a lot of tennis, what I recently discovered. I really recommend this resort to all of my friends. It just was perfect!
CC
The resort is delightful and the tennis courts are very well maintained and set in lush tropical gardens with giant palm trees all around which are filled with lots of lovely birds and offer delightful shade on a hot afternoon. the tennis coach and his team are charming, talented and very well like by everyone at the resort. Chris and Eva really helped my game and I have been a more confident player ever since!

Tennis facility was 1st rate. The courts were in excellent shape and the Pros were fantastic…

The Tennis Centre was first class. Eva, Chris and all the tennis coaching team went out of there way ( in and around of the rain) to make sure my son (5yrs and just starting) and I both improved our game significantly, and as importantly had a lot of fun with it!

We we’re on Nevis during Christmas week but the resort and Island never felt crowded. The Four Seasons lived up to it’s reputation. Nevis is a pain to get to. There are no direct flights to St. Kitts from the Northeast.
CP
Beautiful surroundings, exceptionally friendly staff, very family friendly, excellent tennis and gorgeous golf course, (including monkeys!). The only weakness might be that the sand is not extremely white and fine. Bee n there every year since 1998!
MS
the tennis program is superb, highly professional, effective and very pleasant. The coaching was excellent, indivdualized, and done just right. The pros are friendly, attentive and intelligent. It was a greaty fun playint tennis at the resort and I highly recommend it.It is a great plus for this resort to have such a tennis program.
TS
The individual instruction was very helpful and worthwhile. The Tennis Pro bent over backwards to set me up with matches with other guest of similar capability. The Tennis Pro and the rest of the staff at the Pro Shop were very personable and professional. I had a great tennis experience.
SK
Great tennis facilities, spa and rooms. Excellent lessons/instrutions. Come to relax in a nice resort with friendly staff. Other than spa, tennis, golf, beach and pool not a lot of other island activities. If you want to play tennis and relax in the sun all day, the perfect spot.
HW
I had an absolutely great tennis vacation. The pro is knowedgeable and gives feedback immedaitely in a encouraging manner. I was also able to participate in tennis sessions with others. Tennis activities are fun and inclusive. Chris is great!

The Four Seasons Resort Nevis is a superb tennis facility with impeccable and well manicured clay and hard courts in a heavenly lush and tropical setting. The daily clinics and private instructions are excellent and the tennis coach is very friendly and helpful with arranging match play. The fitness center is equipped with modern exercise machines and is located right next to the tennis courts. Definitely one of my favorite Caribbean vacations.

Chris Myrold is hands down my favorite tennis instructor! He made the drills challenging and fun. He played music to get us pumped up and was very enthusiastic . We must have played 5 times!
DR
We had the pleasure of meeting Chris Myrold when we travelled to Lanai in 2008. It was a nice treat to find him in Nevis. Chris gave my 6 year old son 4 lessons during our stay (it would have been more but he was booked up). Going in we didn’t know if our son would be interested in braving the heat to play tennis. Needless to say after a few minutes with Chris, my son didn’t want to leave the courts. His teaching technique is perfectly suited for young students. His patience and approach are the key to his success, and the main reason he was booked up at a time when the hotel was 25% occupied. My only regret is that Chris isn’t nearby, otherwise I’d sign up my son for long term lessons. If you’re in Nevis spend some time hitting the ball or taking a lesson with Chris, you will not regret it.
AJ
The resert offers excellent tennis facilities, complemented by creative and enthusiastic tennis instruction. Across the board we applaud the professionalism and courtesy of the resort’s staff. A really good swimming beach and a variety of swimming pools, so one never felt over-crowded.
DO
Chris Myrold, the tennis pro, is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about tennis. He was accommodating to those of us who prefer clay courts instead of hard courts for our lessons. I would recommend giving resort guests a choice between clay and hard courts when giving lessons or clinics. When we stayed at the Viceroy in Angilla, there was no charge for court use, so I was surprised we were charged to just play at Four Seasons. No problem paying for the tennis pro and the awesome tennis clinics.
GH
The Tennis facilities at the Four Seasons Nevis are exceptional along with the staff. Everyone from the pros to the women in the pro shop. The staff and the clay courts are two things that will get me coming to the Four Seasons Nevis again and again.
EP
Fantastic place, exceptionally friendly staff who really pamper you. All the activities you would want are at the resort or nearby. The combination of tennis, golf, water sports, cycling, etc. make is ideal, although you can just relax and do nothing if you like. the tennis pros were knowledgeable, patient and excellent instructors to all levels of players. We have gone to Four Seasons Nevis for years prior to its closure due to Hurricane Omar and will continue to do so now that it has re-opened!
KS
The Four Seasons Resort in Nevis is a beautifully landscaped resort on the ocean in Nevis. With multiple tennis courts both clay and rubber there are options for everyone. You can get a private lesson for one or play doubles with a couple of friends.
WS
I had a great tennis experience in Nevis. The courts were excellent, and the instruction was top notch. I can’t think of any weaknesses!
KK
I thought the professionalism of the staff and the value was execeptionable.Chris was my primary instructor and I found him to be great
EA
We had a wonderful experience with the Tennis Pro’s and the service at the pro-shop. Our private lessons were terrific and enjoyed the clinics too. They were allot of fun. We met some great people from around the globe In addition, the pro’s arranged games with other guests within our level who were also interested in playing. I especially loved playing on the red clay courts.
PR
I was at the four Seasons Resort in Nevis about a week ago. The tennis facility looked very nice with both perfect red clay courts and hard courts. I have been doing physical therapy for tennis elbow and wanted to try and relearn my tennis strokes in order to avoid further injury. It was also, a great opportunity to have my wide try and get back into tennis. I took a lesson with my wife with Roger Cochrane as my instructor and found him so willing, patient and helpful to both me and my wife that we continued taking lessons for the rest of our stay, even doing it until we unfortunately had to leave. Chris the head of the tennis at the resort was also instrmental ingetting tennis players involved in afternoon tennis activities. The staff was very helpfu in setting up a ball machine which I used tro practice with. The staff and pros, and the whole facility added to a wonderful resort activity and stay. We shall keep returning, and hope to continue a long friendship with everyone and all the friendly people of Nevis.
JK
Top notch facility. Spending time with PBI Tennis Professional, Roger Cochrane, was the highlight of our trip.
TM
Excellent court availability, both clay and hardcourt. Instructional rates were quite reasonable, with friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic staff. Welcoming to both Resort guests, and visitors staying offsite. Highly recommended.
TC
The resort’s tennis atmosphere is outstanding. The ten courts are a 2 minute walk from your room, directly in the middle of the property. This makes things very easy. I’ll be back and I’d totally recommend the Four Seasons Nevis to my tennis playing friends!!
IM
The tennis facilities at Four Seasons Nevis are second to none. The pro’s were well trained in all aspects of developing young children as well as adults. My 2 children jumped out of bed every morning to head to the courts with Chris and Roger. We will definetely be back to this resort and rate it a 10+
JE
A wonderful tennis experience thanks to outstanding pros Roger Cochrane & Chris Myrold. They are competent , insightful and fun guys to be on the court with. The red clay courts were perfectly maintained. PBI, 4 Seasons, and Nevis climate created the perfect tennis vacation.
AW
A life time experience I will never forget. Everyone was so nice. The tennis pros were awesome. The last time I hit a ball was three years ago and they made tennis exciting that I was able to pick it up again. An unbelievable experience I will never forget.

The Four Seasons Resort in Nevis is a beautifully landscaped resort on the ocean in Nevis. With multiple tennis courts both clay and rubber there are options for everyone. You can get a private lesson for one or play doubles with a couple of friends.
I had a great tennis experience in Nevis. The courts were excellent, and the instruction was top notch. I can’t think of any weaknesses!
I thought the professionalism of the staff and the value was execeptionable.Chris was my primary instructor and I found him to be great
We had a wonderful experience with the Tennis Pro’s and the service at the pro-shop. Our private lessons were terrific and enjoyed the clinics too. They were allot of fun. We met some great people from around the globe In addition, the pro’s arranged games with other guests within our level who were also interested in playing. I especially loved playing on the red clay courts.
Top notch facility. Spending time with PBI Tennis Professional, Roger Cochrane, was the highlight of our trip.
Excellent court availability, both clay and hardcourt. Instructional rates were quite reasonable, with friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic staff. Welcoming to both Resort guests, and visitors staying offsite. Highly recommended.
The resort’s tennis atmosphere is outstanding. The ten courts are a 2 minute walk from your room, directly in the middle of the property. This makes things very easy. I’ll be back and I’d totally recommend the Four Seasons Nevis to my tennis playing friends!!
The tennis facilities at Four Seasons Nevis are second to none. The pro’s were well trained in all aspects of developing young children as well as adults. My 2 children jumped out of bed every morning to head to the courts with Chris and Roger. We will definetely be back to this resort and rate it a 10+
A wonderful tennis experience thanks to outstanding pros Roger Cochrane & Chris Myrold. They are competent , insightful and fun guys to be on the court with. The red clay courts were perfectly maintained. PBI, 4 Seasons, and Nevis climate created the perfect tennis vacation.
A life time experience I will never forget. Everyone was so nice. The tennis pros were awesome. The last time I hit a ball was three years ago and they made tennis exciting that I was able to pick it up again. An unbelievable experience I will never forget.
