This resort/residential development occupies the tip of a peninsula, 28 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta airport and adjacent to the fishing village of Punta de Mita on Banderas Bay (Bahia de Banderas). White-sand beaches and rocky outcrops line its nine miles of shoreline, which border turquoise waters guarded by coral reefs, while the jungle-covered Sierra Madre Mountains form a backdrop to the east. Within its 2,700 acres are private residences and villas, two Jack Nicklaus golf courses, a 10-court Punta Mita Tennis Club, and two resort hotels—the 120-room St. Regis and a 173-room Four Seasons—each with its own amenities. All of this is part of a stretch of Mexico’s Pacific Coast lately dubbed the Riviera Nayarit.
Since the tennis club is an amenity of the resort rather than of one of the hotels Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico (although the Four Seasons does manage it), you can stay at either or in a rental villa and enjoy the identical playing privileges. The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita was the first to be built. It opened in 1999 with 173 rooms—32 of them suites—scattered across the property in tile-roofed Mexican-style casitas behind a scalloped coast of white sand and rock along the Pacific Ocean. All open out onto furnished terraces or balconies and have the upscale amenities you’d expect, including flatscreen TVs, high-speed (but costly) Internet access, and soaking tubs and separate showers. Guests further have access to the Four Seasons’ Apuane Spa, three pool complexes (one with a lazy river pool), a 3,000-square-foot fitness center, and a staffed game room for kids. There are also three restaurants at the Four Seasons.
St. Regis Resort Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico; The St. Regis Resort Punta Mita opened in 2008 with 120 rooms, 31 of them suites. It fronts a beach near the tip of the peninsula. Its rooms occupy tile-roofed two-story clusters, decorated in Mediterranean-Mexican style and all opening onto a terrace or balcony with ocean or garden views. It likewise has three swimming pools—an infinity pool at the beach and one each for adults and families—and a children’s club for those ages 5 to 12. Its 10,000-square-foot Remède Spa has 10 treatment rooms, while its sun-drenched fitness center features Technogym equipment. Dining options range from the casual beach club to International fare at Carolina, The Signature Restaurant.
The tennis and pickleball club consists of five hard and four artificial grass courts, as well as four permanent pickleball courts, under the direction of Peter Burwash International’s Miguel Lopez. Originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, Lopez went on to play for Limestone College in South Carolina, where he captained the squad and played No. 1 singles and doubles. He also earned the MVP and Sportsmanship Awards in consecutive years. After graduation, he played Futures and Challengers events before joining the ITESM TEC of Monterrey Campus Irapuato as coach of the Varsity Tennis teams. He joined PBI in 2012, directing the program at Rosewood Little Dix Bay and then joining the team at Thanyapura in Thailand. At Punta Mita, his weekly roster includes adult and junior clinics, a Cardio tennis workout, game-matching services, and a round-robin mixer.

Beach: With water on three sides of the peninsula, no guest is every very far from the beach and both resort hotels front their own stretches of sand, the Four Seasons on the Pacific, the St. Regis on the Bay of Banderas.
Golf Courses: Jack Nicklaus designed two courses for the resort:
Pacifico Course: This award-winning championship course concludes with an unusual 19th hole: a 199-yard, par 3 dubbed “Tail of the Whale” whose green sits atop a natural island out in the Pacific. At low tide it’s possible to walk to the green; but at high tide, access requires the use of an aquatic vehicle stationed nearby. Par 72

Spa & Fitness Center: Four Seasons: its Apuane Spa borders a relaxation garden and offers a range of treatments using flora believed to have healing properties by the local Huichol Indians who named them. Among the options are Mexican green-coffee slimming wraps, warm stone therapy massages, the Margarita massage (utilizing tequila, sea salt, and lime juice). Manicures, pedicures, and salon service available as well. Within its walls is a generous fitness center with more than 20 piece of Technogym cardio equipment in a room with windows on three sides and views of the foliage outdoors as well as a full suite of Technogym strength stations supplemented by free weights, dumbbells and two Radiant wall stations.
The watersports palapa at Cuevas Beach has kayaks, snorkeling equipment, and sailboats. Snorkeling is as close as the waters off Cuevas Beach. There are also guided hikes into the surrounding hills, nature walks, yoga and water aerobics classes. Numerous off-property options are available as well including horseback riding on the beach, surfing (the nearby small town of Sayulita attracts surfers, thought there is also surfing at Punta de Mita), and scuba diving.

Four Seasons Resort at Punta Mita has a beautiful tennis facility with excellent pros running the program. My husband and I attended the PBI Tennis Camp in April 2018, and we had a great experience! 5 days of tennis with 20 hours of instruction was well worth the cost of the world class camp. We got individual attention as well, as the pros gave each of us a 30 minute private lesson one day. The camp was very well planned, ran smoothly, and our every need was attended to. We will definitely attend again if given the chance!

Fabulous resort. The courts are immaculate and all the amenities needed are there – water, cold towels, etc. They rent ball machines, etc. The head pro Miguel is exceptional. He is a great teacher and keeps it light while also pushing you. Always positive and motivating. The tennis program was great! Both my husband and I took a clinic every morning. Miguel, the tennis pro, always kept things moving and fun, regardless of the various player levels. He was also very generous in the tips and feedback he provided. Although at times there were 6-8 players, he paid attention to each individual and would suggest a little adjustment in stance or swing where appropriate. We were also fortunate enough to participate in an annual doubles tournament where we got to interact with other pros, guests and residents. It was so much fun. I highly recommend the experience.

This is a lovely resort with really nice tennis facilities. I was able to easily reserve a spot in the clinics both days, and met other tennis players through the fantastic coach, Miguel Lopez. I was there in October, and it was hot- though the heat is, of course, no reflection on the club! I can’t think of one downside to this resort.

We have been going to the Four Season’s in Punta Mita for the past 8 years. Everyone is so kind and helpful, they seem to genuinely enjoy making each families stay special. This past February is the first time I used their tennis facility. They are surrounded by beautiful scenery and have both hard and grass courts. I had a lesson with Pro Miguel Lopez. He was excellent. He made two slight adjustments to my forehand and it has made a big difference in my game.

I have always loved the tennis coaching staff at Punta Mita and have had daily experience with both Miguel and Jorge on three different vacations. The individual instruction is excellent, supportive, fun, ever positive, and yet aggressive enough to inspire a senior 3.5 player to seriously change her grip and start attacking with topspin. The instructors are excellent for all ability levels and for children at every playing level. I have ben surprised that the courts have not been busier, but that is not a reflection on the caliber of the program. And, in truth, I love that with just a bit of forethought I can always set up a wonderful week of tennis. It is not a place for lots of easy pick up games, there are simply not enough players. But there are mixers and daily clinics. I come for the instruction and to play with my family, so this is perfect for my needs.

Setting in Punta Mita is like paradise–fabulous ocean, beach, family activities, tennis, meals (various wonderful restaurants at the resort and in town), and assortment of lodging from Four Seasons Resort to private condos or houses. (Though be cautious about temperatures during the later summer months.) Approximately 10 tennis courts shared by residents and guests at Punta Mita, maybe 5 hard court, and 5 soft court (artificial grass). Fabulous instructional staff, from top level teaching pro for advanced players to pros perfect for usual kids or adult lessons. Highly recommended, and we have already made plans to return. About 45 min drive from Puerto Vallarta–easy drive.

I took a lesson with Miguel who is the pro at the resort in Punta Mita. Many times when I take a lesson at a resort I lower my expectations and just try to get a good workout. I had a couple of things in mind I wanted to work on and Miguel turned out to be an excellent instructor! Not only did I get a workout, but I really “tuned up” my groundstrokes and I know what to practice now that I am at home. I only wish I had taken a lesson in the beginning of my stay instead of the end! I would have taken more! And the ladies next to me were so friendly! They invited me to play with them the next day!

I stayed at the St Regis @ Punta Mita and they referred me to this club in the private PuntaMita compound. It is the club for this area, not specifically connected to my hotel. Miguel Lopez gave my husband and I semi private tennis lessons for several days on the strategy for doubles tennis. He was very good at offering explanations of why you make certain shots, how you place them, how to follow the ball. It was what we needed because we are singles players and needed the concept of doubles strategy clearly explained to keep in our minds when we start doing more doubles play. His tips were good for singles too. Last, I was attempting to move my forehand grip over to semi-western from eastern and he discussed how to hold the racquet head to move the grip quickly and furthermore sent me an article on this exact subject. What more can you ask?

High quality tennis pro. Miguel was strong technically but also had a great attitude and brought the best out of me. Lots of court availability and variety (hard court, astro, etc.)

This place is great! We have gone and played tennis 2 years in a row and would highly recommend it. We’ve signed up for the daily clients and the private lessons and both experiences were awesome. Miguel is a great instructor and really runs a great session. If you are at the 4 seasons or the St. Regis I would definitely check out the tennis!
Great tennis lessons / clinics. Miguel is a great teacher. Helped me straighten out my forehand! Followed up with some great articles on what he was trying to teach me.

We had an exceptionally good set of lessons with Max, who is a fabulous instructor. Friendly, encouraging, but also pushes his students to try out new things. Loved being on the court with him and highly recommend booking a lesson.
this place is fantastic!! First class pro and first class courts. Water and cold towels inside the court cabana (and always stocked). the facility is super clean, beautiful and never too crowded. Best in Mexico and perhaps best place for tennis in North America!
My tennis experience while on vacation , MADE my vacation. I played every day and was thrilled with the tennis instruction given by the pro, Miguel Lopez. He was , himself, a very good player and his teaching style was fantastic….His instructions were clear, precise, and VERY helpful. He was fun and encouraged us to play outside of his lessons. Very helpful in setting me up with other players that he knew of….I have taken lessons on many other vacations and I would have to rate Miguel and his clinics and lessons as the BEST I have taken…. I have a friend who will be traveling to Mexico on vacation solely due to my recommendation on the tennis at Punta Mita !
I had the most fantastic Tennis lesson! Roger Cochrane was amazing. He was clear, articulate, engaged, and professional. He was able to explain the techniques in such a way that it was easy to comprehend and execute. He kept the lesson at a nice pace and the hour flew by. I feel my tennis game improved significantly during that one session.
Setting in Punta Mita is like paradise–fabulous ocean, beach, family activities, tennis, meals (various wonderful restaurants at the resort and in town), and assortment of lodging from Four Seasons Resort to private condos or houses. (Though be cautious about temperatures during the later summer months.) Approximately 10 tennis courts shared by residents and guests at Punta Mita, maybe 5 hard court, and 5 soft court (artificial grass). Fabulous instructional staff, from top level teaching pro for advanced players to pros perfect for usual kids or adult lessons. Highly recommended, and we have already made plans to return. About 45 min drive from Puerto Vallarta–easy drive.
Beautiful Resort and amazing tennis facilities. The staff is extremely nice and helpful, the best I’ve ever experienced. Miguel the tennis pro is top notch, I highly recommend taking a lesson with him to improve your game.

I took a lesson with Miguel who is the pro at the resort in Punta Mita. Many times when I take a lesson at a resort I lower my expectations and just try to get a good workout. I had a couple of things in mind I wanted to work on and Miguel turned out to be an excellent instructor! Not only did I get a workout, but I really “tuned up” my groundstrokes and I know what to practice now that I am at home. I only wish I had taken a lesson in the beginning of my stay instead of the end! I would have taken more! And the ladies next to me were so friendly! They invited me to play with them the next day!
This is just an an amazing place for Tennis and even better if you want to golf as well. 10 great courts. Awesome instruction, availability and service. The 1600 acre resort has 9.5 miles of coastline, condos, villas, a four Seasons and a St. Regis. I can’t wait to go back.
Beautiful grounds and wonderful people. The tennis center is fantastic and the pro – Miguel – is a great pro. He is good with both children and adults – we are all beginners and he really taught us a lot. Very patient and encouraging.

I stayed at the St Regis @ Punta Mita and they referred me to this club in the private PuntaMita compound. It is the club for this area, not specifically connected to my hotel. Miguel Lopez gave my husband and I semi private tennis lessons for several days on the strategy for doubles tennis. He was very good at offering explanations of why you make certain shots, how you place them, how to follow the ball. It was what we needed because we are singles players and needed the concept of doubles strategy clearly explained to keep in our minds when we start doing more doubles play. His tips were good for singles too. Last, I was attempting to move my forehand grip over to semi-western from eastern and he discussed how to hold the racquet head to move the grip quickly and furthermore sent me an article on this exact subject. What more can you ask?
The instructional tennis is best in class. Not only is professional a fantastic tennis player, but a good coach, and clearly trained in the art of teaching, not just the art of playing.
