This resort/residential development occupies the tip of a peninsula, 28 miles north of the Puerto Vallarta airport and adjacent to the fishing village of Punta de Mita on Banderas Bay (Bahia de Banderas). White-sand beaches and rocky outcrops line its nine miles of shoreline, which border turquoise waters guarded by coral reefs, while the jungle-covered Sierra Madre Mountains form a backdrop to the east. Within its 2,700 acres are private residences and villas, two Jack Nicklaus golf courses, a 10-court Punta Mita Tennis Club, and two resort hotels—the 120-room St. Regis and a 173-room Four Seasons—each with its own amenities. All of this is part of a stretch of Mexico’s Pacific Coast lately dubbed the Riviera Nayarit.
Since the tennis club is an amenity of the resort rather than of one of the hotels Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico (although the Four Seasons does manage it), you can stay at either or in a rental villa and enjoy the identical playing privileges. The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita was the first to be built. It opened in 1999 with 173 rooms—32 of them suites—scattered across the property in tile-roofed Mexican-style casitas behind a scalloped coast of white sand and rock along the Pacific Ocean. All open out onto furnished terraces or balconies and have the upscale amenities you’d expect, including flatscreen TVs, high-speed (but costly) Internet access, and soaking tubs and separate showers. Guests further have access to the Four Seasons’ Apuane Spa, three pool complexes (one with a lazy river pool), a 3,000-square-foot fitness center, and a staffed game room for kids. There are also three restaurants at the Four Seasons.
St. Regis Resort Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico; The St. Regis Resort Punta Mita opened in 2008 with 120 rooms, 31 of them suites. It fronts a beach near the tip of the peninsula. Its rooms occupy tile-roofed two-story clusters, decorated in Mediterranean-Mexican style and all opening onto a terrace or balcony with ocean or garden views. It likewise has three swimming pools—an infinity pool at the beach and one each for adults and families—and a children’s club for those ages 5 to 12. Its 10,000-square-foot Remède Spa has 10 treatment rooms, while its sun-drenched fitness center features Technogym equipment. Dining options range from the casual beach club to International fare at Carolina, The Signature Restaurant.
The tennis and pickleball club consists of five hard and four artificial grass courts, as well as four permanent pickleball courts, under the direction of Peter Burwash International’s Miguel Lopez. Originally from Guanajuato, Mexico, Lopez went on to play for Limestone College in South Carolina, where he captained the squad and played No. 1 singles and doubles. He also earned the MVP and Sportsmanship Awards in consecutive years. After graduation, he played Futures and Challengers events before joining the ITESM TEC of Monterrey Campus Irapuato as coach of the Varsity Tennis teams. He joined PBI in 2012, directing the program at Rosewood Little Dix Bay and then joining the team at Thanyapura in Thailand. At Punta Mita, his weekly roster includes adult and junior clinics, a Cardio tennis workout, game-matching services, and a round-robin mixer.

Beach: With water on three sides of the peninsula, no guest is every very far from the beach and both resort hotels front their own stretches of sand, the Four Seasons on the Pacific, the St. Regis on the Bay of Banderas.
Golf Courses: Jack Nicklaus designed two courses for the resort:
Pacifico Course: This award-winning championship course concludes with an unusual 19th hole: a 199-yard, par 3 dubbed “Tail of the Whale” whose green sits atop a natural island out in the Pacific. At low tide it’s possible to walk to the green; but at high tide, access requires the use of an aquatic vehicle stationed nearby. Par 72

Spa & Fitness Center: Four Seasons: its Apuane Spa borders a relaxation garden and offers a range of treatments using flora believed to have healing properties by the local Huichol Indians who named them. Among the options are Mexican green-coffee slimming wraps, warm stone therapy massages, the Margarita massage (utilizing tequila, sea salt, and lime juice). Manicures, pedicures, and salon service available as well. Within its walls is a generous fitness center with more than 20 piece of Technogym cardio equipment in a room with windows on three sides and views of the foliage outdoors as well as a full suite of Technogym strength stations supplemented by free weights, dumbbells and two Radiant wall stations.
The watersports palapa at Cuevas Beach has kayaks, snorkeling equipment, and sailboats. Snorkeling is as close as the waters off Cuevas Beach. There are also guided hikes into the surrounding hills, nature walks, yoga and water aerobics classes. Numerous off-property options are available as well including horseback riding on the beach, surfing (the nearby small town of Sayulita attracts surfers, thought there is also surfing at Punta de Mita), and scuba diving.

We live vacationing in Punta Mita. It is a beautiful location. Miguel Lopez is always so helpful in setting up private drills for us. We usually travel with a group of friends who enjoy tennis so we play and drill with them. I always learn something new from the pros and always have fun! We did t play pickleball because it was crowded but the courts looked great.

Wow! Where to start? I was in Punta Mita twice in the past month and what a wonderful experience! The Four Seasons was such an amazing resort on every level but what made it truly exceptional was the service. The staff turned a simple interaction into a meaningful, happy experience. The food was superb and the amenities are out of this world. The Golf courses and the Tennis Club were standouts! Daniel and Miguel were especially memorable at the Tennis Club. Great instruction! I am a better player (4.5 to 5.0) and they made my lessons as productive as my wife’s (who is a 3.0-3.5) and made it FUN at the same time. I made meaningful improvements in my backhand and my wife was cracking forehands with a great shape by the end of our sessions. Bravo, boys!!!!!!

I was immediately provided a slot in the next days tennis clinic (Great!) and a reservation for a private lesson with Jorge (Fantastic!). This lead to an invite into the weekend Club Championship Mixed Doubles Match- a Laver Cup like RR. Next, my wife and I took a doubles lesson and another clinic. Everything was first class and the communication was particularly superb. Bring your racket and be ready for a great workout. Perfect tennis environment.

We have a very active family enjoying golf, gym and especially the tennis facility. Our son is a top nationally ranked player so when we go to Punta Mita he is able to hit with the pro every day for a competitive hit. The golf is amazing but I enjoy spending time at the spa. We all love the cuisine and fresh seafood so we come back at least three times each year for a full week of activities but leave time to relax on the beach! A family favorite for over 18 years!

We have visited several wonderful tennis resorts, such as in Hawaii and Costa Rica, in addition to Punta Mita. I play approximately 4.5 level tennis, and love instruction/work-out hits with the pros. My teenagers also take lessons each visit. The level of instruction and level of tennis with Miguel at Punta Mita is the best I have experienced. Not only is it a privilege to play against his level of tennis, but he is an amazing student of the game, with wonderful take-away tips each lesson, such as working through the nuances of the topspin backhand or twist serve. Jorge is a wonderful pro, more enthusiastic than any other pro I have met. He is a great player and compelling for lessons for adults or kids. Don’t miss lessons with Jorge. These guys and this tennis complex are fantastic. And I have not even yet mentioned Punta Mita, which is a paradise on the Pacific side of Mexico. Great hotels, restaurants, shops, beach, etc that make for an unbeatable family vacation. We know many families who have been coming here for years. Definitely worth a visit. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

My husband and I came to the resort while on our honeymoon to participate in the tennis clinic. We loved it so much we came back everyday of our trip! Miguel was an amazing coach and we did two private lessons with him as well as the clinics. Both of us rarely play tennis and within the week we were hitting great shots and serves! Miguel does an amazing job as head pro in Punta Mita Tennis Club. My wife and I have been to Punta Mita multile times over the last few years and always enjoy playing social and competitive tennis before relaxing at the beach, fishing, and surfing. The clincis are very well organized and Miguel does a good job of putting appropriate levels of players together. Miguel teaches during the clinics and plays with and against the players. Everyone has fun and gets a great workout. My wife and I have Miguel arrange mixed doubles and single matches with local members and visiting tennis players. I am a 4.5 player and have had many great matches and hitting experiences on vacation. In February I played in the Pro Am at Punta Mita Tennis Club that had local tennis pros and some recent Divison 1 tennis players. My 3 girls have never used the junior tennis program but my wife and I are always able to get a court for some fun faimly tennis. Also, Miguel organizes round robin social tennis in the early evening hours that is a great way to get some exercise before a night out to enjoy the local food and drinks. Overall, the tennis, local cuisine, massages, sunsets and accommodations in Punta Mita make this one of the best Tennis resorts in the world!

I highly recommend the coaching staff at the Tennis Center in Punta Mita. Miguel Lopez runs a truly wonderful coaching program. We have extensive experience with both Miguele and Jorge for private instruction. They expertly cover the range from small kids to 4.5-5.0 players. They are positive, supportive, spot on in their instruction, and exceptional at reading what each player wants and needs: from a fun, let’s get started session to a grueling workout that helps a serious player work on the finer points of his/her game. The daily clinics have usually been populated with at 3.0-4.0 range of players, and the coaches consistently make the hour both fun and instructive. I haven’t been at the resort during peak season, but understand that setting up matches, at least for higher level players, is another service the staff can provide. There are 10 courts, 5 hard courts and 5 artificial grass/sand courts. Hopefully the sand courts will soon be changed to something more like Har-Tur – or phased out into hard courts. Regardless, there always seem to be available courts. I imagine that will be less and less the case as word of the program and the overall delights of the Punta Mita Resort continues to spread!

Drills were well thought through and there were lots of them…lots of variety, to address every players needs! Our family rented a villa near the resort and we had a private lesson for 2 hours a day for 7 days at the resort. We had from 3 to 6 players each day with various skill levels. We had the same instructor each day. His name is Max Lawrence from Montreal. He was excellent and should get the highest marks available for a tennis pro. He provided instruction and drills every lesson which were accessible to all of our players. He was prepared with new drills and pointers each lesson. Our daily tennis was a highlight of our trip. We would go back to the resort and hope that Max is there when we visit!

Those in our group had varied skill level. He took this into account and managed to challenge each of us at our own skill level, while also making it very fun and educational. I would highly recommend Miguel as an instructor, and hopefully I will have the good fortune to visit again someday. And if so, I will definitely request Miguel as my instructor again.

Four Seasons Punta Mita was a beautiful resort! Miguel was fantastic and even though we just met, he knew all of our names. He was very nice and encouraged all of us with fun games!
Miguel is a fantastic tennis instructor! He accommodated our group of 5 women of differing abilities and made sure we all worked on our skills while having a wonderful time! He learned all our names in the first 5 minutes, and was encouraging and pleasant the entire hour. The lesson was a great workout and I had a great time! I give Miguel my highest recommendation!

Miguel does an amazing job as head pro in Punta Mita Tennis Club. My wife and I have been to Punta Mita multile times over the last few years and always enjoy playing social and competitive tennis before relaxing at the beach, fishing, and surfing. The clincis are very well organized and Miguel does a good job of putting appropriate levels of players together. Miguel teaches during the clinics and plays with and against the players. Everyone has fun and gets a great workout. My wife and I have Miguel arrange mixed doubles and single matches with local members and visiting tennis players. I am a 4.5 player and have had many great matches and hitting experiences on vacation. In February I played in the Pro Am at Punta Mita Tennis Club that had local tennis pros and some recent Divison 1 tennis players. My 3 girls have never used the junior tennis program but my wife and I are always able to get a court for some fun faimly tennis. Also, Miguel organizes round robin social tennis in the early evening hours that is a great way to get some exercise before a night out to enjoy the local food and drinks. Overall, the tennis, local cuisine, massages, sunsets and accommodations in Punta Mita make this one of the best Tennis resorts in the world!

We recently attended a camp in Punta Mita Mexico. This is actually my second time as I atteneded last year and was excited to come back. The facility is amazing and the Pro’s Miguel and Katie were great. They were both challenging and encouraging which helped in the learning process. I felt I came away with improved skills and much improved game. Give this one a high rating overall and cannot wait to go back !!
I love the tennis club in Punta Mita. We have been going for the past 6 years and we have loved working with Miguel. He is such a nice person, a great pro and always makes things fun. Honestly, we always go back to see him as he has become part of our experience.

I highly recommend the coaching staff at the Tennis Center in Punta Mita. Miguel Lopez runs a truly wonderful coaching program. We have extensive experience with both Miguele and Jorge for private instruction. They expertly cover the range from small kids to 4.5-5.0 players. They are positive, supportive, spot on in their instruction, and exceptional at reading what each player wants and needs: from a fun, let’s get started session to a grueling workout that helps a serious player work on the finer points of his/her game. The daily clinics have usually been populated with at 3.0-4.0 range of players, and the coaches consistently make the hour both fun and instructive. I haven’t been at the resort during peak season, but understand that setting up matches, at least for higher level players, is another service the staff can provide. There are 10 courts, 5 hard courts and 5 artificial grass/sand courts. Hopefully the sand courts will soon be changed to something more like Har-Tur – or phased out into hard courts. Regardless, there always seem to be available courts. I imagine that will be less and less the case as word of the program and the overall delights of the Punta Mita Resort continues to spread!

Great Focus on learning how to play outside of our comfort zone. This is so important because it is the only way to improve and in an environment geared towards taking our game to the next level. Drills were well thought through and there were lots of them…lots of variety, to address every players needs! Pros were attentive and nor formulaic, addressing issues as they arose and adjusting drills to suit certain requests by players. Pros balanced out tennis playing level differences extremely well. Atmosphere was education AND fun! Punta Mita tennis facility is world class and extremely well maintained and outstandingly beautiful!!!! “I have been to other tennis camps such as the run down Saddlebrook, and there is just no comparison! Punta Mita has it all!
Miguel Lopez is a real asset. Very professional, super pleasant and an excellent coach and tennis partner. I will be back to play with him and learn a few tennis tips.
This was by far the best tennis instruction I have ever received! I took private lessons with Max and I could tell right away that he knew what he was talking about, he definitely helped my game. I also had a couple of lessons with Bryant who was equally competent. One little tip I can give is to book in advance as this place gets pretty busy. Thank you guys!

We continue to come back each year over the holidays. The Tennis Center at Punta Mita is a core activity of our family from adults to kids. Every year, both of our kids get private lessons from some wonderful tennis coaches–Max and Cole were awesome with our kids. Our vacation at Punta Mita is always amazing and the Tennis facility is 100% guaranteed to make the vacation fun and a good workout too.
Our family rented a villa near the resort and we had a private lesson for 2 hours a day for 7 days at the resort. We had from 3 to 6 players each day with various skill levels. We had the same instructor each day. His name is Max Lawrence from Montreal. He was excellent and should get the highest marks available for a tennis pro. He provided instruction and drills every lesson which were accessible to all of our players. He was prepared with new drills and pointers each lesson. Our daily tennis was a highlight of our trip. We would go back to the resort and hope that Max is there when we visit!
Miguel was incredibly helpful in setting up matches for us while on vacation. The facilities are absolutely stunning.
