Excellent pros, welcoming atmosphere. Very laid back and relaxing vibe. Can go with friends or by yourself and know you are going to have a great time either way. Pros are great at teaching different skill levels in same group but able to tailor it so everyone gets what they need.

We love going to John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. The instructors are personable, fun and energetic. They do work you hard, but in a very fun and engaging way. This is a tennis camp and you will get a lot of tennis instruction. At the end of the day, you are TIRED but in a very good tennis playing kind of way. The accommodations do need work but the beds are comfortable for a good night’s sleep after a long day of instruction. The food is good and believe me, you will be hungry! My husband and I enjoy our time we spend there. If you are looking for a luxury tennis resort, this place is not for you. If you are looking for fun, intense tennis instruction with a rustic feel then look no further. The instructors are very hands on and they are fun!

Me, my teenaged son and six tennis ladies all participated in the weeklong camp session. The pros were skilled and enthusiastic, the staff was very flexible with my son attending some Juniors and some Adults sessions. We enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub. The food was outstanding and fun to eat in a family atmosphere with our fellow campers and the pros. Overall, it was a very good “bang for the buck.” We would definitely recommend this to others and we would love to go back.

I participated in a tennis camp from April 2-9. The tennis instruction was great. There was a small group (14) people during the week I was there and I really got know everyone and play with everyone multiple times. The only thing that I was confused by was on the friday morning session (our last session). The night before, the weekend group arrived. There about 20 or so people. I didn’t realize that they would be joining our friday morning session. It completely changed the dynamic of the camp for the group that I was in. The drills were different, there were quite a few different pros that I didn’t know and that didn’t know me, and a lot of new tennis players. I did not enjoy this session. It was difficult to play with that many new people and I felt like I was not able to continue working on what I had been working on all week, because the new pros did not know what I had been working on and the drills were different to accommodate the large group of incoming players. It would have been helpful to know this ahead of time and/ or to keep the groups separate for their last session.

Simply the resort that does it best on the combination of fun and serious improvement of your game. Staff can’t do enough for guests on and off the court.

I’ve been to a good number of adult tennis instruction camps. This was my first time to do a full week. I loved the ranch setting in Texas. Weather was ideal, the staff, meals and accomodations were great. The instruction was outstanding – the right pace and amount of content for 5 hours a day. I would go back without question and would highly recommend to anyone looking to improve their skill level and also have a good time.

If you are looking to improve your tennis game then look no further than the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. I guess that is why my wife and I have been there 10 times in the last four years. We have done the weekend clinic eight times and the weeklong clinic twice. You will get more tennis then the body can handle and an overload of useful and specific info tailored to your game. To me the best thing they do is to keep it to a 4 to 1 ratio, 4 guest per pro. No standing around here, you will work your butt off while getting lots of constructive instruction and have a great time while you are doing it. The ROI (return on investment) is fantastic. Our 10 hours of instruction at the weekend clinic cost about 70% of what 10 hours of lessons would cost at my local tennis facility. Not to mention that the price also includes the accommodations and 10 great meals. The staff is HIGHLY trained and very personable. I’ve been there so much that I now stay in contact with one of the directors over a shared hobby. Already planning the next visit.

Newk’s is unique! I am a Coach Education Tutor and Tennis Director in the UK and we have been taking players there from our programme based in Liverpoolfor over 20 years and I have to say the experience is life changing! There’s an unbelievably friendly atmosphere there – you are always made to feel part of a Tennis Family, whether it’s on the Junior Camps, Academy or Adult Programme. Everyone goes away feeling they’ve done well and counting the days untill the next visit! Great coaching team led by Phil Hendrie on the Academy and Chris Jacques on the Adult Programmes – both totally motivational and committed to ensuring each and every player is valued. Our players always feel they can let go on court and work like they’ve never done before! The coaching is active, high intensity and above all, total fun! Accomodation is great too as are the meals and there’s plenty of potential great local excursions for the evenings if you’re there for the week. I have visited many resorts in the USA and its always been a great experience but this is the one we will always go back to – miss the Newk’s experience and you’ll miss out!

Lodging and food are a bargain. Tennis facilities and tennis instruction are top notch. We have been many years in a row now and our group continues to grow as we spread the word of the remarkable value and experience. Highly recommended!

  • CB

This is a fantastic camp. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable about the game of tennis. The cabins and facilities are great as well. The adults even get to have fun at night dancing and adult beverages at the club bar. Will definitely go back. The kids even got to meet Mr. Newcombe.

I had heard about the John Newcombe Tennis Camp but had never attended. I just attended this last weekend and it made me realized I had really been missing out. FANTASTIC camp, FABULOUS pros and staff – It was the best money I have spent in a long long time. I learned so much from the pro’s – they were all so knowledgeable, friendly and FUN – what an awesome experience I will be coming back over and over and bringing and telling everyone I know. Thank you for an incredible experience. The accommodations were perfect I loved being right on the courts – the food was so good and the service great. I really can only think of one thing that would of improved it would of been if I could of stayed longer — Great time and Great memories made. Thanks again for one of the best times i have had in some time.

The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is an excellent tennis camp. We were two tennis leagues vsiting from the Houston area and we all felt that we came away with new skills and an even greater love for the game. The pros kept us busy on the court with very few breaks. We enjoyed the way the camp is set up where you basically work on your own skills so you are not evaluated and put into specific groups which can cause hurt feelings and resentment. The pros made it a lot of fun while at the same time constantly letting you know what you did well but also correcting your grib, your swing etc. – the reason you were there! The food was delicious. I cannot think of any weaknesses – perhaps a few more lit sign to make it easier to find your way around the camp at night!

  • CH

We LOVE our time at Newk’s!! The food is wonderful, the on site condos are wonderful, and the instruction is second to none. They do a wonderful job of balancing great instruction with accommodating their guests and making it a wonderful vacation. We take our children who do the kids camp, and it is amazing as well. They mean it when they say ” team, family, team”! We return from Aladka year after year because it never fails to be a wonderful experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone.

  • RW

Rec’d a call from the pro a few days before attending camp to find out about my needs. One hour hitting session with pro on day of arrival was great way to unwind and eval by staff. Pro to student ratio was 2 or 3 to one, better than the stated 4:1. Pros were very attentive, gave valuable feedback and available as needed and at ate meals with guests. A week-long program of 4 1/2 days resulted in23 hours of tennis, a very good value. Played on well maintained clay entire time per group choice. And-the hitting and the pros were all fun.

  • DG

You get the most tennis for the least cost when you compare getting more hours on court and less cost than at other resorts. Country location with deer coming right up to you, yet not too far from I-35 and minutes from San Antonio or Austin if flying in. Not only is the tennis instruction great, but the pros are hilarious entertainers as well, and go out of their way to make sure you get whatever you want, inviting requests. Pros even entertain at Sat night Karaoke and dancing, so have something for everyone. Home cooking type food is great too.

  • BW

This rustic camp provides all the fun of your childhood summer camp, but with a high level of tennis instruction. The staff really work to know every camper on a personal level and remembers everyone from year to year. The food is basic but perfect fuel for long days of tennis workouts. Most importantly, the Saturday night festivities (crazy singing and dancing) are absolutely essential for working out the kinks before the Sunday sessions.

  • AV

    Can’t wait to go back!!!!

  • BD

The pros are very engaging and friendly. They make you feel good about even your worst shot. If you take real questions and strategy issues to them, they will answer. I tell everyone they have to go once. The food is awesome. I’ve been many times and the clinics don’t ever really change so that’s a drawback. Overall, fun time and a great weekend of tennis.

  • AH

The John Newcombe tennis ranch is a place where no matter your skill level or where you are from you will feel like home.It is a place that is hard to say goodbye to when you leave, but when you come back you feel like you have never left. The pros and staff provide a world class service not only on tennis instruction, but all always eager to help you improve while having fun. This resort is in my opinion a world class tennis resort since it makes everyone be a part of a family united by tennis.

  • BC

Love the incredible instruction and awesome energy that I receive from every tennis pro at the Ranch. I am so glad I decided to stay at the Ranch for the weekend clinics. Great experience made even better by receiving a lesson by Mr. Newcombe himself!

  • AK

I attended Newks Camp 3 times and had the time of my life! We played hard all day, I learned so much from all the fantastic coaches, then had a blast spending time with them and old and new friends. I highly recommend this camp to all level of players, young and old!

  • GK

Newks is a great mix of fun and excellent tennis! I went for a weekend camp & the goals seem to be to have a crazy fun time & improve your tennis! Really, that’s it! Nothing fussy or uptight. The staff is great & very supportive w/a combination of drills & court play. I truly love the effort they all put in to get to know the campers. It made the trip more personal & memorable! Thanks Newks! Can’t wait to see you again!

  • AC

I LOVE NEWKS! I have gone to their weekend sessions three times now, and can’t wait to go back again. The coaching is great, the food is awesome and the price is very reasonable. In 2.5 days you get about 12 hours of great drills and personalized coaching to improve your game.

  • RB

I have been going there every February for the last 10 years and every visit is always fun and learning experience. There is a group of 5 from little rock and hot springs. We always book the weekend package plus one more day and we get a condo by the courts and club house. The place is fantastic and the pros know what they are doing plus they still make it fun and always listing to you. Don’t forget the massage there. To die for. Food is good and plenty of it. The clubhouse has a bar and they have a pool and hot tub. If you want to have fun with friends and make new ones, you have to call them. Tell them batman sent you.

The Legends event at Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch continues to be the best tennis event I have ever been to. Steve Contardi does an outstanding job organizing the event. John Newcombe and the Legends really reach out and make this event like no other. The campers are divided into 4 teams each captained by a group of legends and assisted by ranch pros. I have been a Dunnie for all but one of the years I have been attending. As such, I have had Fred Stolle, Dick Stockton, Mark Woodforde most of that time. While they enjoy annoying me, teaching me, coaching me, mostly they have become my friends. I say this with great humility. One of the great treats of the Legends is dinner. In my case usually accompanied by Fiery Fred and other campers. At the end of the meal, Newk will call up a panel, to discuss an issue about past or present tennis. Insights are provided that would most likely be available to most any tennis player. The event has remained pretty much the same every year. There will be special years like the 25 anniversary or the year Rod Laver was a legend, but every year is special, I assure you. I should note that the Ranch has upgraded the rooms substantially over the past two years, making the the experience much more comfortable. The Ranch staff are very friendly and really take care of you. Highly recommended even though the price at 4k+ might seem high. You will never experience anything like this.

  • BJ

Excellent staff , from reservations to the tennis pros. The Texas hill country atmosphere makes the stay relaxing and special to those not from that area of the us. Would tecommend their summer camps for juniors and adult clinics year around. Their tennis academy is also top notch !

  • MB

I sent my son to John Newcombe’s Tennis academy in the summer of 2015 for 3 weeks. While there his level of play was increased greatly. He is working extremely hard to secure a college scholarship playing tennis. He enjoyed his time at Newcombe’s greatly. He went back to train during his Christmas vacation so my wife and decided to stay on the ranch as well. The staff there was very professional, accommodating and pleasant to deal with. The condo was peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed our time there as much as our son did. We will most definitely be returning to Newcombe’s for tennis and vacation. The ranch is secluded enough to peaceful but close enough to Austin and San Antonio to where you can find plenty to do. We give John Newcombe’s a 10.

I am a 4.0 singles player in my early 60s. I have have been to many tennis camps over the years, ever since I won a week at Nick Bolletierri’s in 1988. These include Saddlebrook and New England Tennis Holidays as well as VanderMeer and Vic Braden. The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch was, hands down, the absolute best. Id’ return there in a heartbeat. The pros were excellent — attentive, fun, engaged, energetic, knowledgable, and able to convey their knowledge to a wide variety of adult player types who already, for better or worse, have well developed tennis styles and habits. They respected our tennis “personalities” while helping us build on them to improve. In addition to that — and the super venue — the other true key for me was the heart of the program: i.e., the intermingling of well-conceived drills with frequent point play. Bringing us back to game situations again and again did not allow me to forget that competition is the intended end result of learning and practicing good form. In addition, the video analysis was 30 minutes long and obviously highly detailed…. The ratio of players to pros was part of what made it so special. In the five days I was there we never had more than six people in the program. It was mid-week. Weekends are far more populated, I am told. Still the ratio of pros to players is always one to four, I am also told. Also adding to the delightfulness, on four days out of five the weather was perfect. On the fifth day, there was a monsoon and we experienced the covered courts, but they are not a problem. Just a little noisy if the rain is pounding, as it was on that day… The food is delicious and plentiful at every meal. At dinner, there is always a substantial protein (steak, salmon, chicken breast) and a big dessert (layer cake, cheesecake). Don’t go to John Newcombe if you expect to diet! I stayed in a cabin and it was nicely appointed, with maid service (bed made and towels changed) daily. I hear there is hiking nearby; I hope to take advantage of it next time. Also, a pool and jacuzzi — in October the former was a little too chilly for me. When you’re not playing tennis yourself, it’s fun and instructive to watch the juniors at the Academy (Li Na, Ryan Harrison, and Leyton Hewitt have all trained here)…. I’d like to give a special thanks to my pros: Adrian, Mitch, Josh, and Chris Jacques; also James and Gregor from Scotland. The guys not only helped with the physical, but they reinforced the mental side by always exemplifying the right attitude on court! Conclusion: I took away not just a few tips but a refreshed outlook on the game — my game. Postscript: I played singles with my regular partner yesterday. We usually split sets and then play a tiebreaker. This time it was a two-set win for me: 6-3, 6-3. Thanks, guys!

Team, family, team; “awesome” (said in an Aussie accent); and “rock solid”. These are some of the more popular phrases said around Newks Ranch. I think perhaps the greatest things that the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch provides are energy and a passion for the greatest sport in the world. That’s what my experience at Newks has been. You’re surrounded and instructed by people and tennis pros who absolutely love what they do. Their passion is infectious and their instruction superb. If you go to Newks, whether it be for a week or a weekend, you’re bound to have an amazing time. You’ll laugh, you’ll run yourself ragged, you’ll learn more about yourself as a tennis player, you’ll learn how to better yourself as a player, and most importantly you’ll love every moment doing all these things because the energy at the Ranch is immense and their passion for tennis will guarantee your experience is an “awesome” one.

At the end of every adult weekend at Newks, I am thinking “when can I book the next weekend?!” It’s a ton of tennis touching on all aspects of the game. The pro’s are energetic, funny, knowledgeable, and always willing to take the extra step to help you with a weakness in your game. Off the court, the pro’s with sit with you during meals to talk tennis or ask about your family. The evenings are so fun with dancing, games, skits, etc. The whole weekend is a blast and an opportunity to improve any part of your game!!!

  • RG

The weekend long Adult Tennis Camp is perfect for those looking to improve their ball hitting skills, or those looking for a fun getaway. The tennis pros are professionally trained to show you how to have fun on and off the court. Great value all around.

  • SG

I look forward to Newk’s like a little kid. I can’t wait to see the Coaches. I want to show them what I’ve got. They offer me a ton of encouragement, tips and skills that I take back home with me.

  • AG

The staff is so exceptional that I literally can’t wait to see them 3-5x/ year. The instruction is intense yet perfectly tailored to meet my needs.

  • EB

Mitchell Joyce and the rest of the pros are fantastic!

  • LJ

The pros at John Newcombe’s Tennis Camp are awesome. Their drills are not only informative but they make them fun. Somehow, even in large groups, they are able to get to know everyone individually and make them feel welcomed. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and clean. I can’t wait until my next trip to the camp!

  • RL

This place is AMAZING!! Talk about a fun time. I learned so much and will DEFINITELY be coming back! Great food, Great Tennis, Great People, Great Courts, Great Facility all around!!

  • DH

Chris, Mitch and Adrian led a fun, educational, and physically satisfying weekend. Really hand it to all the pros for the advice and tireless drills… And for keeping it light hearted with lots of great humor 🙂 They really run a top notch program from start to finish and I’m already looking forward to next year!

  • DA

I thoroughly enjoyed Newks Tennis Ranch’s top-notch adult tennis camp program, which is perfect for all players/levels! Our ladies team just returned from our second tennis camp weekend at Newks, and we had an amazing time! The pros were ALL awesome, providing outstanding, detailed instruction throughout the camp sessions, breaking down and demonstrating each stroke with in-depth precision. I feel like I received a great deal of information to help my game, for a fantastic price! The Pro demo match, and social activities were also a blast, and we enjoyed every moment we spent at Newks! A special bonus treat for us this past trip was getting to meet John Newcombe, and watching a demo session from him! He is such a class act! We already plan to go back in the Spring! The only “weakness” I can mention is that it gets really hot on the courts…so, bring some gatorade if you feel you need it. I love the cold water coolers between the courts. Keep up the awesome work, guys and gals! Looking forward to coming back soon! Cheers! Deedee Albertin

  • PJ

John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch was a wonderful experience.I would have to say the staff’s enthusiasm, professionalism and expertise was outstanding. My week consisted of detailed instruction of all the important tennis strokes and doubles strategies for 5 and a half hours per day. Each of the drills were were intended to strengthen your game at your specific level and have some fun too! It was an awesome week, one I will never forget. Also the lodge served a variety of delicious food and desserts.

  • AJ

Newks is truly an amazing place! It never fails to make me happy and I always have so much fun! There are a lot of team activities and INCREDIBLE coaches. The environment is over the top. Loved every bit of the camp experience. Also a really nice large resort with many tennis courts, including clay! I wish there was more one on one coaching but other than that, you are constantly playing against great players with great coaches. I highly recommend going to Newks.

  • GC

I have been going to NEWKS for about 9 yrs and everytime is new experience! The staff there is BRILLIANT! The life long relationships you get from there is un-measurable(sp). In the 9 or so years I’ve attended 14 times. 2 yrs ago I had a spinal cord injury that left me with no sensations in my lower body. With expert training at my end, I was able to come back to NEWKS this May 2014. They did everything possible to make me feel like I was BACK! I couldn’t do CAMP but I could manage 30 minutes per day to train…THEY helped me so much..TEAM-FAMILY-TEAM…weakness…the pool was too cold 🙂

  • BD

My team tries to get to Newks twice a year for some great work on the court. The teaching pros are very professional and provide drills and a program designed specifically for our ladies team. My husband and I love to visit Newks for a weekend getaway. The accommodations are very nice, the courts are in good shape and I have to mention that the food is great too! My team has reserved our spot for the end of September 2014. Texas Hill Country and Tennis Workout, a terrific twosome!

  • DB

This is the best value for your buck! Great tennis instructors are fun and engaging—Mitch and Chris are always my favorite, since Sal left to be director at Cliffy’s. The accommodations are spartan, but clean and comfortable–rustic really, fitting for the setting. The food is always good!

  • CB

Amazing instructors, amazing food, amazing place!

  • HH

The John Newcombe Tennis Camp is home to many people. It is a place where people go to get better at their tennis and meet new people. The camp is different than any other camp because of the atmosphere. Phil Hendry and the staff make the place an exciting environment and always positive. Every time a kid leaves they remember the laughs and and all the fun they had on court. This camp is also competitive too. You compete on and off the court all day and you get a chance to be a part of a team. It’s an overwhelming feeling you get when you step on the ranch. You’ll never want to leave.

  • FT

My son had been attending John Newcombe tennis ranch since he is 7 years old. He is currently 17 and the highlight of his vacations still is to go to spend part of his summer at Newks. Amazing place where they teach the kids not only how to play tennis, but also leadership, sportsmanship, how important is being part of a team and family. My son considers News as his home away from home!!!!! Amazing place also for adults!!!!!!!

  • KC

We love going to Newks, the facility is great, the accommodations are relaxed and comfortable, and the setting is very peaceful. The staff at Newks is top notch and very accommodating to make your trip fit your needs. The practice courts are right outside the accommodations, so very convenient.

  • CC

I sent my son to camp this summer and all I can say is WOW. He had a blast! He learned so much tennis to take back home and he made friends he will have for a lifetime. The staff took great care of him and all I heard was how much fun he had. Thanks Newk’s Ranch….My son will be back soon!!!

  • CH

Friendly staff. Very fun summer camps.

  • JW

Such an incredible place! The staff really makes sure everyone has a great time and feels involved, really a great team family atmosphere!
