There is a lot of shouting going on in the Billabong Bar. Some 60 of us have turned up at Newk’s Tennis Ranch on a balmy October weekend, and after introductions to the pros, an hour of lively drills, and a dinner of steak, salmon, scalloped potatoes, sautéed vegetables, salad, and chocolate cake we’ve reconvened in the bar, divided now into two groups, Team Australia and Team USA, for a pep talk with our respective captains and camp co-directors, Chris Jacques and Mitch Joyce.
The actual Davis Cup-style competition won’t take place until tomorrow when we gather as teams in two separate bleachers to cheer on our respective captains and their partners in a pro doubles exhibition. Tonight, however, we’re being introduced to the fine art of “barracking,” which consists chiefly of shouting loudly to support your team coupled with hurling insults at the opponents. And for those of us on Team Australia that also means a rehearsal of the classic cheer: “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oy, Oy, Oy.” The team meetings over, many of us grab a drink at the bar and head outside to a pavilion and firepit for s’mores, entertainment by the Grand Slams—an informal band comprised of several of the pros—and a chance to get to know more of our fellow campers.
They don’t make tennis camps like Newk’s tennis ranch anymore. It is the last of a breed, a vestige of the tennis-boom era when days of banging balls were followed by nights of hanging out with the pros and new-found tennis mates. Everybody played together all day and then gathered together again for dinner, merry-making, and maybe a beverage, and entertaining one another with songs, stories, and conversation. The unwritten assumption was that anyone who loved tennis enough to spend five hours a day doing drills must be worth getting to know.
Former world No. 1 John Newcombe opened the ranch in 1968 with former Trinity University coach Clarence Mabry. Much of the teaching methodology continues to be based on the techniques Newk learned from legendary Australian Davis Cup coach Harry Hopman and on those Mabry employed when he helped launch the careers of Dick Stockton, Brian Gottfried, and Chuck McKinley. As principal owner, Newk spends as much as six weeks a year at the Ranch, including two Fantasy events (see Calendar below. Historic photos and magazine covers of Newk decorate the walls of the main lodge, as do posters of Australia. His influence permeates the camp.
The property was, in Newk’s words “a run-down dude ranch,” when he and Mabry first looked at it, but its location in the Texas Hill Country, 20 miles north of San Antonio and 30 miles south of Austin, appealed to Newk who wanted a retreat from the circuit when he was in the U.S. Today the ranch has 31 courts, four of them indoors and another four that are clay. The original ranchhouse has a pro shop, dining room with tables for eight or more, and the Billabong Bar. Behind the ranchhouse stretches a terraced deck with picnic tables in the shade of several large live oaks—a camper favorite for lunch on pleasant days—just steps from an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. From there it is a short stroll to the adult accommodations, which consist of a mixed bag of rooms, cottages, casitas, and one- and two-bedroom condos. As the ranch has grown, so has the town of New Braunfels, so the spread no longer feels so rural and isolated as it did when I first visited—particularly given that John Newcombe Estates, a housing development and country club, has spring up on the adjacent 200 acres. Still, I surprised a couple of deer on campus as I walked to breakfast one morning and another camper spotted a javelina.
Phil Hendrie has been the Director of Tennis for the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch for the past 40+ years, overseeing both the adult and junior programs. Throughout his time at the Ranch he has coached players such as Lleyton Hewitt, Li Na, Michael Venus, Nicole Melichar, Ryan Harrison, and many more. He also has a high success rate of getting young players college scholarships. Phil heads up a staff of more than a dozen tennis professionals including Stephen Rogers and Max McDulin, the Directors of Adult Tennis.
Tennis Programs: In the adult camps, each day begins with a basic overview of the strokes on the day's agenda, generally focused on basics of technique. From there it's out to the courts and a mixture of drills, half of them with the pro doing the feeding, the other half live ball sessions, pitting campers against each other or one or more pros. There is often one or more pros who rove, pulling aside individual campers for specific advice on improving a particular stroke. Each of the morning and afternoon sessions lasts 2½ to 3 hours and often conclude with some sort of informal doubles competition. Midweek sessions add videotaping to the mix.
Court Complex: 27 hard courts (4 covered) and 4 Har-Tru courts
Court fees: None
Off Court
Fitness Center: Although it is hard to imagine why anyone who spends 5 hours on court would feel the need for a fitness center, the Ranch does in fact have one in a cinderblock building near the covered courts, principally intended for the full-time junior academy students but available to adults who feel a need for it. It has the usual weight machines and Cardio equipment along with a battery of devices intended for tennis specific exercises, including medicine balls and balance platforms. It may also come into play, as it did during my visit, in the case of rain, sending part of the group to the covered courts, part to the fitness center for an overview of tennis-specific exercises. There is no spa; however, there is a massage therapist on call.
Accommodations
Campers can choose from a variety of accommodations, all clustered around or near the courts. These range from simple rooms with two double beds to one- and two-bedroom condos, the latter with fireplaces, full kitchens, and washer-dryers.
Getting there
Seasons: Year-round with the lowest rates available from November through February.
Travel Instructions: By air: The nearest airports are San Antonio, roughly 30 minutes to the south, and Austin, roughly 45 minutes to the north. By Car: The ranch is on Highway 46 in New Braunfels, Texas. From San Antonio, take I-35 North to Loop 337. Exit and turn left following Loop 337 to Highway 46 West. Exit, turn left (west), and drive approximately 2 miles then turn left at the large water tower marked "Newks Resort." Follow the signs to the Main Lodge.
The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is the best! Been coming for several years with a group of my ladies. The tennis, the pros, everything I’ve experienced at NEWKS are top notch. You feel like you’re part of the family. Can’t wait to come back!!!

Great Pros, Great Staff, Fantastic price! Loved covered courts as a backup if it rained or if to windy to play outdoors. The food was pretty good. Clean rooms. Have re-booked over and over. We go 2 times a year. (we may start going 3 times a year!)

Think “better than average sleepaway camp.” The place is not posh, but the Adult Weekend Getaway is comfortable, easy and fun. Since my first visit as a self-described intermediate beginner looking for confidence to bridge from private lessons to match play, I go solo once or twice a year. The group has numbered from 12 one weekend to 40 for another, including a ladies’ league group of 10 that flew in from Colorado, with ages ranging from late 20s to 3 or 4 retirees; the camp staffs as many pros as needed to keep a low ratio. Every single pro I’ve met there has been really knowledgeable and friendly. To restate the obvious, the getaway is about tennis. You play all day, indoors or out, rain or shine. I would not recommend this place for absolute beginners or the non-player who just wants to tag along. The program is packed and doesn’t lend itself to halfway participation. Accommodations range from 2-bunk cabins to hotellike rooms with balconies and even townhouse-looking units I saw only from outside. Lodgings are clean and comfy but spartan, a great place to stow your stuff, lay your head and relax under a hot shower, but you won’t be tempted to lie in all day. The food is best described as hearty and moderately healthy camp fare served buffet-style. You won’t see aspic (or chicken nuggets, for that matter), but the enchiladas or the turkey sandwich you build after 3 hrs on the courts will taste scrumdillyumptious. The last night is FUN. I have fond, if slightly sodden, memories of impromptu midnight tennis after an evening of chatting and dancing. I’m ready to go back this fall.

Tennis fantasy is an rare & exceptional experience. you are one of 60 to 100 campers. you will be coached and taught by 12 to 16 Pros who have won Grand Slams. They are legends of the game, (namely John Newcomb, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Mark Whitford, The Jensen brothers etc.. They put you into one of 4 teams, then they coach you, on court, while you are playing matches. for 3 to 4 days. There are 2 days of drills and basically one on one coaching. You eat with them, drink with them and have a lot of fun. You socialize with your fellow campers and the Legend Pros. Food is good and plentiful, beer is unlimited, so is the wine at dinner. I’ve been there 9 times. Some campers have gone back every year. 1 week in the fall for guys level 3.5 & up. 1 week for mixed in the spring.
PB
Always Looking forward to another wonderful fun tennis experience. Meeting new tennis, people, meeting our friends there and most,of all the pros.

Thinking about a tennis vacation. Then think no more because there is really only one place to go. The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. The wife and I have been going for years, and we can both honestly say that we NEVER had a bad time. Deep in the heart of the beautiful Texas hill country, the setting is beautiful as are the grounds;big shout out to those who keep it looking that way. Accommodations are just what you need. Hey folks, this is a ranch and not one of those overpriced resorts. Shout out to housekeeping for keeping the rooms clean. Food is terrific and very nourishing. Shout out to the kitchen staff. Oh yes,the tennis. Let’s just say whether you are a serious tournament player,or a beginner or somewhere in between, then Newks is the place for you. Whatever YOU desire, the fantastic pros will do their very best to make it happen. It’s really YOUR ranch from the time you check in until you check out. You want clay courts, they’ve got clay courts. You want covered courts, they’ve got those as well. You want individual attention in order to refine a specific stroke, they will work with you to help achieve YOUR goals. The drills are designed around the game based approach philosophy in that each is simulating actual match play. These drills not only allow you to work on technique, but they also test your fitness as well. Trust me,you will improve, but most importantly, you will have more fun than you thought possible both on and off the court. Adrian,Nick,Adam and all of the pros are there for one thing, and that is to make sure you have the time of your life. Trust me,you will. There is one problem however: the time goes by way too quickly but by the end of your stay, you will say:I’ll Be Back!!!!!!! I can just about guarantee that you will be back….again and again and again… It’s an addiction, but a good one to have. Overall assessment: BEST IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!
JR
Best in the World Tennis instruction. Rooms and food could be a bit better but outstanding coaching and vacation spot!

The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch (Newks), has changed my life, I want to spend every day in New Braunfels, TX on the ranch. There’s no place on earth with a more positive and revitalizing energy. Everywhere you look, whether it be at the staff or the customers, there’s always a smiling face. 10/10 would recommend to any tennis lovers of all levels to choose Newks next time you want to live out your tennis fantasy.

I’ve being going to Newks for 5 years and have never had a single complaint about it

John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is by far one of the best tennis resorts for groups looking to have fun and practice their skills/technique at a very affordable rate! I’m from Chicago and have been going to their weekend Adult tennis camp for the past 5 years. It’s so popular with my Chicago tennis teams/friends that I’m bringing 20 people this year! Location: it’s less than an hour from Austin and San Antonio airports so it’s really convenient. We love to hang out in Austin after the weekend camp is over. Value: accommodations, meals and 6 hours of tennis are all included in one weekend package. I’ve been to a few tennis camps around the country and Newks is far by the least expensive without compromising on a great tennis experience. Staff: if you want to have a fun tennis getaway, the pros at Newks definitely deliver! The camp director Adrian and his staff always bring the energy, friendliness, fun and great tips. They keep you moving with dynamic drills, music and coaching. Accommodations: this is a tennis ranch, so it’s more rustic and less of a 5 star resort. But that’s why my group loves it. It’s all about tennis. There’s a pool and hot tub, but we really enjoy the 2 bedroom/2 bath condos that sit right off the clay and hard courts. And all the accommodations are close to the main hall. Entertainment: other than the tennis, the nightly entertainment by the staff is one of the reasons we visit Newks every year! The pros stay on the ranch and join the campers for Aussie style games, karaoke and camp fires. We really enjoy the fun and friendly atmosphere and the camaraderie amongst the staff and patrons. If you’re looking for a fun, affordable, memorable tennis getaway with a group, couples or even by yourself, than John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is the way to go!
DS
This is our favorite place to go and play tennis and enjoy life. We loved it so much we got married there during the lockdown! It holds a very special place in our hearts. The food is wonderful and we always meet the nicest people. Tennis drills keep you moving the whole time and we always learn something new. Adrian does a fantastic job on the adult side and Fossil Phil is incredible with the kids. We will continue to go back year after year.
LP
Just returned from a weeklong camp at John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. I have been to many well run tennis camps, but this one was by far my favorite. Intense tennis training in a fun environment with other tennis enthusiasts. The pros were terrific and I left with not only improved skills, but practical ways to make continued improvement at home. I found that many of the other campers are repeat visitors (some as many as 7+ times) and I can see why. If you are looking for a camp whose focus is on improving all elements of your game, this is it. Camp is ideal for single travelers given the fun and welcoming atmosphere. Shoutout to Adrian who runs a great program. Can’t wait to go back in 2022!

If you haven’t been to the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch for a weekend getaway or for a fantasy camp recently, you’re missing out. The program has been markedly upgraded in the past 2 to 3 years and is a can’t miss week or weekend. As someone who has been going at least 2 x year for the last 20 years, I am appreciative of the changes in the last 2 or so years. Adrian and Mitch are two of the most fun people around yet incredibly profession. The energy is fantastic and the exception tennis instruction is only exceeded by the after hours social life.
RR
I loved it. They worked me hard and instructors were absolutely great, so much energy and enthusiasm. Food was incredible, Ranch was kept spotless. Living quarters were extremely comfortable and clean. We had a problem with our room and, with no hesitation, they accommodated us and changed our room! Six of us went to the Ranch and all 6 of us want to go back again.
CK
Tennis. This is what Newks is. Truly… Newks is one of the few places I can come to and feel both on vacation and at home. People say this place doesn’t change, I disagree, it only gets better each time I come. This year I came with my nephews and had them join the junior camp while I plaid in the adult camp with Adrian and Gregor… they haven’t stopped asking me when they can come back. Truly a dream for an uncle to hear, Phil, Mitch, Mariel and Esther run a truly world class junior tennis camp experience. We’ll be back, just have to wait a couple more months! Find the time to give your tennis game the best gift you can give it, get yourself to Newks!

Amazing time spent at the ranch! Staff were great and just a very joyful time for all
ED
It’s the perfect destination for tennis and so many other adventures. It has a unique history and it is very close to two very popular cities. Definitely a place to visit with loved ones, on your own, or for business or leisure travels.
HP
I owe most of my best and favorite memories that involve a tennis racket to the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. While of course I love the tennis instructor from such a vibrant staff, it is also the amazing off-court experiences that I will truly cherish.
TB
By far the best tennis vacation! Went above & beyond my expectations. Job well done NEWKS!!!

John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is AWESOME!! Our son as gone to their Summer and Winter Youth Camps for several years, and each time he has had an amazing time and improved his game. The campus is BEAUTIFUL, the courts are excellent and plentiful, and the coaches are top notch! You won’t find a better value, better coaching, more beautiful setting or more fun experience anywhere! Their High School Winter Weekend Camps are terrific as well! We highly recommend!
CA
I had an exceptional week at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch! It met all my expectations and then some! The coaches were all professional and personable. Adrian, Gregory #legend, Price, Hunter, Juan and Chris are top notch instructors and gave us great direction with every lesson. My game improved! I was not able to volley, lob, and serve return confidently until they were covered by the team of coaches. This def is more valuable than private lesson imo because you are more invested in the development of your tennis game while being in the ranch, living and breathing tennis for a week. The coaches all have great personalities and always made us feel welcomed. My group and I, again, had an amazing time and I couldn’t of asked for a better time out! Money, travel, and time well spent! I came out of this camp a better tennis player for sure! I also started listening to more country music which is a great thing!
JT
Just finished a girls trip to John Newcombe’s Tennis Ranch and had a BLAST!!! This was my first tennis camp experience, but have to say it will definitely be hard to beat. Three of us stayed on the ranch for their full week program and couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. Here are my thoughts about the trip: Tennis – We opted in for the full week of tennis (full of 3 hour mornings and 2.5 hour afternoons — WOW)! Before coming to the ranch, wasn’t sure I’d survive! For reference: We are used to hitting 2-3 hours at a time, 2-3 times per week at home. Let me tell you, the tennis pros did an amazing job tailoring to our skill set. Not only was the pace perfect, but we each came back better players and with fitter bodies 😉 Insider Hint: We brought in a massage therapist three evenings of the week for 1-hour deep-tissue massages (YES — talk about fair-weather tennis players!!) However, this was KEY to playing 100% the next day and learning/making the most out of our time there. Pros – Adrian, Hunter, Price & Gregor Honestly: the nicest/coolest guys work at the ranch!! Not only are they REALLY good tennis players that know how to clearly articulate their coaching tips, they’re also extremely hospitable, friendly and HILARIOUS!! (+bonus: they’re all AMAZING dancers) — the evenings are full of nothing but laughs & good times!! Every day, the pros rotate with the multiple adult groups at the camp. I found this to be really beneficial — getting new perspectives on different techniques. One way or another, one of their suggestions/tips would stick with my playing style. The Ranch & Food – The Ranch is a BEAUTIFUL gem just outside of San Antonio. The tennis courts are cleanly kept and even though the majority of courts are outdoors (both clay and concrete), they have a fair number of indoor courts for rainy weather — so you won’t miss out on a single day of tennis! The food at the ranch was REALLY good as well. Three meals a day – buffet style – with MORE than enough options to leave full and powered up for your next lesson. Only miss: found that the bar would close a little early some nights. Although there were a few liquor stores nearby, we didn’t have a mini-fridge to keep our drinks cool…didn’t stop us from having a great time though! Accommodations – The three of us stayed in a room with two queen beds and one bathroom. More than enough room! The beds were comfy, bathroom had good space, but honestly we didn’t need to spend much time there since the staff kept us busy during the days & exhausted in the evenings that we went straight to sleep! Down-side: Unfortunately, by the time we booked our trip, all the rooms with in-suite laundry were taken. This would have been KEY with all the dirty tennis outfits…not that we ran out of clothes, but the dirty laundry would make the room smell if it wasn’t air-packed away! Other Notes – As I mentioned, I went with two others to the ranch and we had an amazing time! I would definitely recommend going with friends around the same level — they do a great job of keeping you all together on top of introducing you to others and meeting new people. Would I Go Back? 100% YES To all the staff at John Newcombe’s: Thank you for an AMAZING vacation week at the ranch. Couldn’t have asked for a better time – you all exceeded our expectations (which were high to begin with lol) and we can’t wait to see you again soon!!
JT
WE HAD THE BEST WEEK EVER AT THE RANCH! Highly recommend for those looking for lot’s of tennis (30+h over the 5 days), lot’s of laughs and a great team-family environment!
DA
I’ve been to The Ranch on several occasions now since 2018. It’s an easy drive from Houston (or many other areas in Texas for that matter). While the hill country setting is incredibly calm and beautiful, the hard work you put on the courts with the pros is the most rewarding piece of the vacation. The pros are not only supportive, encouraging, informative, and very good at what they do, they’re also very easy to talk to and understand while your get some of the most consistent and repetitive practice you may ever experience. It’s hard work and it’s not to be taken lightly, and it’s so worth it.
BD
I look forward to visiting The Ranch every year! I’ve been going to the Ranch for nearly 10 years and every time I end my week having learned something new. 30 hours on the courts over 5 days certainly helps me groove my strokes. The pros are great and although the instruction is in groups, they are always willing to work with you. Tell them your goals for the week and they will focus on that for you throughout the week. The more you interact with them, the more you will get. This is THE best bang for your buck that you can get anywhere.
MS
An absolute thrill from beginning to end, the best resort for personalized coaching for any level. An incredible experience with people who will become family forever.
TH
The absolute GREATEST tennis resort I have been to. I am an annual attendee due to the camaraderie, facilities, and the staff!
JG
Newks is the model tennis camp that everyone else strives to be. Every instructor has an Amazing skill to impart the knowledge you need to continue your game after the instruction i have attended Newks weekend programs for almost 20 years at least once a year. I always learn a new technique or idea to improve my game. I also bring organize a group of ladies to attend the weekend camp once a year. The talented pros learn everyone’s name, talents and always an interesting tidbit about each individual lady and make each of us feel so empoweried. I have attended lots of tennis programs and camps, but Newks is consistently a top program!
GJ
Newks is such an amazing place to play some tennis and meet some cool people ! It was really accommodating to tennis fanatics and beginners as well! I’ve always loved going there and will always recommend it to my friends
JM
This place rocks! They have something for everyone, and I couldn’t recommend the team enough.
MD
I have been attending this camp for 10 years. The staff provides a wonderful experience and I look forward to going back every year! Not to mention the beautiful area where JNTR is located.
RL
I recently attended Newks and must say my experience was fantastic. The energy from the staff was second to none. The staff exhibit incredible teamwork which translates into a tremendous all-around experience on and off court. The instruction from Adrian, Greg, Ryan, et al was superb and, as a bonus, they made me laugh all day long. Even though I should have been exhausted after 7 hours on court that Saturday, the Newk’s staff’s enthusiasm powered me through! Highly recommended for anyone!
AH
Last fall my family and I wanted to get away for some fun in the Hill Country. I chose John Newcombe tennis Ranch because I’ve been there before and it’s always been a great time. The Scenic Hills and trees and beautiful countryside always make it feel peaceful and scenic with plenty to do in the area. We always have a great time whether we staying at the ranch or go out for a bit of fun in green or other areas close by. The tennis instruction and the tennis activities are unmatched to any other place I’ve been. The Pro Shop is always well stocked with creative fun things to buy. I’ve never had my kids participate in the kids programs but knowing how well they’ve done over the years and watching them through their exercises and practice you can tell it is a top-notch program. Everyone you meet there whether it’s staff or other guests are always friendly and sociable. We’ve never had a bad trip or bad experience. The rooms are great and the food is delicious. And when the kids are out having a good time it’s a great place for the parents to sit back and have a little bit of a romantic evening. I can’t wait to go back again soon. A few years ago we had a couple go with us and it was just us for adults and that was a great time too because we got to hang out more at the bar and go out on the town. I also know that if you’re lucky sometimes you can even see John Newcombe or other famous players around the ranch. Lots of historic photos and lots of stories that the staff and owners can tell. It’s a fantastic time.
CB
Wonderful food Top class rooms Excellent hospitality and the tennis coaching was SUPERB fun and so well worth it. It was the most wonderful experience and I would do it again as soon as I can Thank you to all the staff and coaches. You are a family away from my family
WW
Great atmosphere! High energy, very tennis centric program. Accommodations were good, though not resort quality.

If Disney World didn’t exist, John Newcombe Tennis Ranch would be the happiest place on earth!
DA
Nestled in the cute little Texas town of New Braunfels, Newks ranch is your one stop shop of tennis camp. Clay and Hard courts, night lights, pool/spa, fire pit, bar and restaurant. I love that the condo’s wrap around the courts for a great view of the action. The tennis staff is experienced, motivating, and darn right fun. I’ve been going for over 15 years because I love this place. Cheers.
CM
If you’re thinking about visiting “Newks” you should do it and you’ll be glad you did. The coaches make tennis even MORE fun and the instruction they give is worth while. Your tennis game will improve if you practice what they teach. The facility, located in Texas hill counrty, is clean and has everything you could want–well-maintained hard and clay courts, outdoors and under cover; a gorgeous swimming pool; great food and areas to go hiking. I don’t have anything negative to say except that I am unable to go there everyday!
MM
The John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is a great place to improve in tennis, as the staff provides quality pointers on the development of different aspects, from the mental game to the fundamentals, and even how to be more successful in match play. I have made friends there over the years who I still keep up with. The atmosphere there is strongly encouraging. The pros are able to create successful and beneficial matches for each player, giving you a variety of opponents with a different playing style. Aside from tennis, the ranch offers a variety of recreational activities that are very entertaining. The food is good as well! I could not imagine going back to any different tennis camp each summer and winter and look forward to the years to come.
CG
I have been working here as a pro here on the weekends while I have been at college and it is a great place for kids to get away, meet new people, and better their tennis game. It has a friendly atmosphere and the staff makes it easy for the campers to learn new things.
AS
Great tennis instructors. Learn so much and so fun!!!!
DN
I grew up going to the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch and eventually joined the ranks of staunch tennis camp fanatic turned camp counselor turned academy pro. While most would say I’m easily entertained, I’ve never been nearly as easily impressed, but Newk’s impressive with very little effort apart from honest intention to bring people of all ages and skill levels together to share in the camaraderie of sport and kinship. Little did I know that first summer of ’99 Newk’s would prove the single most magical and remarkably communal diversion from the monotony of being a teenager and fuel my love for tennis and fitness for decades to come. Apart from necessary expansion and a handful of luxurious upgrades to accommodate increasing popularity, the Ranch has changed very little about the way it conducts business and is still headed up by a swarm of incredibly sharp and sidesplittingly hilarious Aussie tennis elites. If you’re reading this, please take these words for truth: the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch is the most dynamic, engaging, unassuming, heart-expanding, team building, non-judgmental tennis getaway on the planet bar none.
MB
Lots of drills but very little individual instruction. Many of the ‘Pros’ are 18 year high school students. Too much tennis in a short amount of time. 8 hours of drills in one day is too much for an adult body. Then another four hours the next morning. Some of us had more. Several of us came home with injuries.
AM
We took a large girl group to Newk’s and we had a BLAST! Not only were the pros professional, but they were fun and encouraging! We actually went back the following year bc they were amazing! Nice, remodeled units to stay in, food was great, no complaints at all!
EF
This is my favorite place for many years now. You step into this beautiful tennis rach and you feel at home from the get go. The staff becomes family and I’ve been friends with them ever since. The skill level of coaching is always so challenging and the accommodation very comfortable and all you need after a day of hard work on the courts. Then to have the exceptional food and entertainment, can’t beat it and that’s why I always will go back for more.
CT
Awesome camp! The pros were the best! They were so patient with one of our group that was brand new to tennis! Facilities and food were top notch!
CD
In my opinion, Newks is the greatest place in the world to play tennis. No matter what the occasion, do yourself a favor and go!
CA
Awesome tennis camp. Great location. Staff very friendly. Drills are fun and address the entire game.

I’ve being going to Newks for 5 years and have never had a single complaint about it
High energy clear instructions
Staff were great and just a very joyful time for all
It’s the perfect destination for tennis and so many other adventures. It has a unique history and it is very close to two very popular cities. Definitely a place to visit with loved ones, on your own, or for business or leisure travels.
I owe most of my best and favorite memories that involve a tennis racket to the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. While of course I love the tennis instructor from such a vibrant staff, it is also the amazing off-court experiences that I will truly cherish.
WE HAD THE BEST WEEK EVER AT THE RANCH! Highly recommend for those looking for lot’s of tennis (30+h over the 5 days), lot’s of laughs and a great team-family environment!
An absolute thrill from beginning to end, the best resort for personalized coaching for any level. An incredible experience with people who will become family forever.
The absolute GREATEST tennis resort I have been to. I am an annual attendee due to the camaraderie, facilities, and the staff!
Newks is such an amazing place to play some tennis and meet some cool people ! It was really accommodating to tennis fanatics and beginners as well! I’ve always loved going there and will always recommend it to my friends
This place rocks! They have something for everyone, and I couldn’t recommend the team enough.
I have been attending this camp for 10 years. The staff provides a wonderful experience and I look forward to going back every year! Not to mention the beautiful area where JNTR is located.
Wonderful food Top class rooms Excellent hospitality and the tennis coaching was SUPERB fun and so well worth it. It was the most wonderful experience and I would do it again as soon as I can Thank you to all the staff and coaches. You are a family away from my family
Great atmosphere! High energy, very tennis centric program. Accommodations were good, though not resort quality.
If Disney World didn’t exist, John Newcombe Tennis Ranch would be the happiest place on earth!
Cheers.
I have been working here as a pro here on the weekends while I have been at college and it is a great place for kids to get away, meet new people, and better their tennis game. It has a friendly atmosphere and the staff makes it easy for the campers to learn new things.
Great tennis instructors. Learn so much and so fun!!!!
Lots of drills but very little individual instruction. Many of the ‘Pros’ are 18 year high school students. Too much tennis in a short amount of time. 8 hours of drills in one day is too much for an adult body. Then another four hours the next morning. Some of us had more. Several of us came home with injuries.
We took a large girl group to Newk’s and we had a BLAST! Not only were the pros professional, but they were fun and encouraging! We actually went back the following year bc they were amazing! Nice, remodeled units to stay in, food was great, no complaints at all!
Awesome camp! The pros were the best! They were so patient with one of our group that was brand new to tennis! Facilities and food were top notch!
In my opinion, Newks is the greatest place in the world to play tennis. No matter what the occasion, do yourself a favor and go!
Awesome tennis camp. Great location. Staff very friendly. Drills are fun and address the entire game.
