The 18-story Naples Grande Beach Resort anchors a 23-acre property just inland from the Gulf of Mexico behind a 200-acre mangrove estuary called Clam Pass Park. From the balcony of my room, I can look west across those mangroves and east across the red-tile roofs of the tennis villas and the 15 Har-Tru courts of the tennis complex beyond.
As is often true in Florida, activity on the courts has started early; everyone, it seems, wants to play in the mornings and in fact I’ll be there shortly to join a men’s drill session. But though the courts are already busy, the hotel lobby is almost deserted. There is, I’ve been told, a large conference group in house; however, the meeting rooms are mostly on the second floor—an escalator ride up from the lobby—and thus out of the mainstream, leaving me with the sense of having the hotel largely to myself.
That circumstance is unusual, and not typical of my previous visits to the property. Though set up to handle large conference groups, the hotel also has the amenities to attract leisure guests, chief among them a 7-mile-long ribbon of sand along the Gulf of Mexico. To reach the beach and the resort’s watersports center, guests can hop a free shuttle or stroll along a .6-mile-long boardwalk that winds through the mangroves and over a canoe trail. To that natural feature the hotel adds a suite of distractions of its own, including a free-form swimming pool with a waterslide and waterfall and a second oval pool with cabanas and a hot tub, a pool-front fitness center, a spa, a kids club (also right off the pool), golf privileges, a lobby restaurant and bar, and, of course, tennis.
The main cluster of courts fans out from a single-story red-roofed air-conditioned pro shop with a flatscreen TV, basic tennis essentials, limited clothing and equipment, and a display of wooden racquets. The tennis-management company Peter Burwash International (PBI) installed Scott Pennington to direct the facility. Originally from Virginia, he played college tennis for Virginia Commonwealth and then headed to Europe where he played German Club team tennis and cycled around the E.U., including a trip from Prague to Vienna. He brings an extensive tennis resume to Naples, including a USPTA Elite certification, stints as a USTA Competition Training Center coach, National Zonal Coach, and Southern Section Davis/Fed Cup coach and experience at a variety of clubs in South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, and Florida.
Tennis Programs: In any given week, guests can look forward to daily clinics, cardio tennis, group and private and group lessons, monthly member and guest events, and more. His staff includes a full-time tennis attendant to see to all player needs include matching. A local membership ensures a base for the drill sessions and activities as well as for guests looking for a game, and the hotel allows outsiders to play, so even on occasions when the hotel itself has few players, the courts see a lot of use.
Court Complex: There are 15 Har-Tru courts, 5 of them with lights, just a 2-minute walk from the hotel lobby.

Beach: A boardwalk through a mangrove estuary connects the hotel with a 7-mile-long beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
Golf: Guests have privileges at the nearby Naples Grande Golf Club, a par-72 layout designed by Rees Jones.
Spa and Fitness Center: The Zen-inspired Spa at Naples Grandehas 12 treatment rooms in a cluster of pavilions set in gardens just above the swimming pools. Before and after treatments guests have access to an outdoor relaxation space with lounges and to a labyrinth for meditation. Light lunches are available from a special spa menu. The Fitness Center, which spans 8,000-square feet, overlooks the mangrove estuary from the 3rd floor. A room key provides access 24/7 to the workout room, sauna, steam, and lockers supplemented by a yoga studio. Personal trainers are available.
Children's Programs: The hotel runs a kids’ program for those ages 4 to 12, basing in out of a room off the swimming pool and entertaining them with arts and crafts, video games, television, and sports and recreation.
Dining: Coffee, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches are available at Spressi in the hotel lobby while Aura serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an emphasis on locally. Dinner options range from small plates, to flatbreads, pasta, and local grouper. For drinks, you can head to the simply title The Bar in the hotel lobby.

I had a private lesson, and received excellent direction, open, honest evaluation, fun, good work out, pro was positive and knowledgeable, and I was later set up for a game with a perfect match. I would continue to attend for private lessons, clinics, games, etc. as the entire experience was wonderful.

The resort has 16 or so well maintained HarTru courts. The hotel is top notch with very comfortable beds, luxurious linens and more than adequate space. The resort hosted a Peter Burwash Invitational tournament, which attracted local and visiting players.It was well run and fun. I would return next year.

The PBI program was exceptional. We were able to get courts and lessons at the times we wanted without a problem. Everyone was very accomodating. The private lessons were both entertaining and a learning experience for all of us. My children looked forward to tennis every day. Each child(2 teens and an 11 year-old)really enjoyed their instructor and learned from their lesson. The courts were in very good shape and are a short walk from the rooms. We would definitely go back and look forward to it.

I am a beginning tennis player and attended two clinics and one cardio tennis class while my staying at the resort. I enjoyed all three sessions and felt they were well worth the money. It was difficult for the pro to balance the various skill levels that were present but I felt that everyone learned something. My only complaint was that one of the clinics had 8 people but only one pro which made his job difficult. He still managed to give each of us some pointers.

Once was for a group clinic and the next time was their first Friday evening mixed doubles mixer. The local folks are very friendly and sociable. The clay courts were a nice change for me, since the area that I live in only has hard courts. The only downside were the somewhat subpar court lights, which made night tennis a bit of a challenge.

We love the place as it offers us a great combination of sports activities and relaxing in a beautiful, high level environment. Our son (12 yrs) has joined the junior lessons and he made many friends there whilst improving his tennis skills considerably. My husband and I visited the resort with our children for 3 days of tennis, and we were not disappointed. The tennis courts were beautifully maintained, and the staff was very kind and accommodating. The tennis pro, Jacob Hansen, made us feel comfortable right away with his relaxed manner. He analyzed our strokes/serves, gave us suggestions on how to improve, and we did just that. We have a greater understanding on how to control our serves and how to aim/strengthen our backhand, plus we left with multiple practice exercises to work on at home. Alex, another tennis instructor, did a fabulous job with our 4, 7 and 10 year old children in private lessons. Our kids had fun without realizing they were doing exercises, and their strokes became more consistent. We learned a great deal and enjoyed it tremendously!

Naples Grande Beach Resort was the perfect place for a fun tennis weekend! My girlfriends and I went for a long weekend and enjoyed great tennis clinics with Jacob Hansen for 3 days. The courts were maintained beautifully and the entire resort was beautiful as well. We never had to leave the resort…we played tennis, wined, dined, relaxed poolside, and even spent an afternoon at the fabulous spa. I highly recommend Naples Grande Beach Resort. We will definitely be going back again.

My weekend vacation’s stay at Naples Grand Resort was for a special tennis event on last February, in which Fabio and all his staff made the best organized and challenging tournament with local tennis players and from different states that came to participate and enjoyed Fabio’s expertice in tournaments as the resort facilities. I played in a tennis tournament over President’s week-end. This was an extremely organized event which included excellently outlined pre-tournament informations like room accommodations, how the tournament would be organized, and additional events linked with the tournaments. The hotel itself was an amazing property with contemporary furnishings. The service in every aspect was outstanding including the meals provided at courtside. The tournament itself was well coordinated by the knowledgeable and skillful three tennis pros who all very actively helped with the organization and running of the tournament itself. I would say they went above and beyond what I would have expected at an event like this. There were extra clinics executed by the pros both days. The courts were emmaculately maintained. I cannot say enough about how well this event was put together and run from the beginning to the end. I would definitely participate again and recommend the experience and property to other tennis friends.

I felt a individual connection with both Jacob and Fabio, the instructors I had at PBI at Naples Grande Beach Resort. I’m usually very nervous when I play with new teaching pros and they both made me feel very comfortable in the clinics that I attended. The individual time that both Jacob and Fabio gave me is much appreciated and I’ve been honing the forehand and serving tips they gave me in the short time I visited this resort. The courts are gorgeous and the staff in the tennis office were friendly and informative, too. I only wish I had time to take more clinics or lessons while visiting this resort.

I enjoyed that they offered programs for everyone and tried to accomodate everyone. They offered drills for people like myself who were the only tennis player in their groups. The downside was that some of the drills were not very rewarding since I was slightly a higher level player and was not pushed as much as I like. No fault of the resort just the situation. However, they recognized this and were kind enough to have one of the pros hit with me. Above and beyond the call of duty!!!

I participated in the PBI Interclub tournament at Naples Grande Beach Resort from Feb 13th to the 16th. The tournament was great. Everything was well organized and a lot of fun was had by all. The courts were well maintained and Fabio and his staff were very helpful. I would definitely try to go again next year if the tournament is offered. The only downside is that, although the time spent at the tennis courts made it a great weekend, the service provided by the Hotel staff was very poor and almost ruined the experience. I normally don’t expect much beyond courtesy and couldn’t even get that much out of the Hotel Staff. But I must reiterate again, so there is no confusion, that the tennis staff was exceptional.

I spent January 14 through 17, 2009 at the Naples Grande. They had 15 well maintained Har True courts. They have a one hour clinic with a theme each morning except Sunday. There are also some round robins. I was fortunate to hook up with another guest in the first clinic and we played together several times. The hotel is excellent. The beach can be reached by a 0.6 mile walk along a boardwalk through a mangrove swamp or by frequent shuttles. The head tennis pro, Fabio Vasconcellos, is enthusiastically working to build an excellent program at the Naples Grande.

My wife and I recently spent three days in Naples Florida at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. We chose this resort because they had tennis clinics on every day except Sunday. We took a clinic each day. Each day covered a different segment such as serve and volley or backhand, etc. The price for the clinic was very reasonable and the quality of the instructors were great. The clinics were small and the instruction was great-what more can you ask for. Fabio, the head pro, Jacob and Allison, the assistant pros were friendly and went out of there way to make the clinics fun and productive. After the backhand clinic, I was so impressed with how Jacob broke down the stroke that I took a private lesson from him in the afternoon. After the serve and volley clinic which was taught be Fabio, he encouraged the eight of us to take two open courts and have fun playing doubles. We will definitely go back to see Fabio and his team at the Naples Grand on our next trip to Naples.

I rang in the New Year with 5 days of tennis instruction at the Naples Grande. Fabio & Jacob did a fantastic job of identifying my weaknesses quickly and suggesting simple and effective adjustments to improve my game. My tennis was markedly better by the end of the trip. I just got back from spending a week at the Resort and I could not have imagined a better way to welcome in the New Year. I participated in both clinics and private lessons and was extremely pleased with both. I worked with both Fabio and Jacob and both gave me great lessons, each adding their unique insight while keeping consistency. At the end of my stay they set up a match and I felt that I could see some definite improvements in my game. The hotel itself was also very nice, very modern with a cool Miami feel. One negative, while not towards the tennis, was that the beach is a bit of a hike. While they have trams, it does make you less inclined to go. We have been going to the Naples Grande (formerly the Registry) for 5 years. The courts are in great condition and the staff and teaching pros are always friendly and helpful. The head pro and manager of the tennis facility, Fabio Vasconcellos, was very professional, personable and an excellent teacher. He took his own personal time to come to my son’s tennis tournaments that he was playing down in Naples after coaching him at the resort for one week. We thought that was going the extra mile.

We have a greater understanding on how to control our serves and how to aim/strengthen our backhand, plus we left with multiple practice exercises to work on at home.
Alex, another tennis instructor, did a fabulous job with our 4, 7 and 10 year old children in private lessons. Our kids had fun without realizing they were doing exercises, and their strokes became more consistent.
We learned a great deal and enjoyed it tremendously!

Naples Grande Beach Resort was the perfect place for a fun tennis weekend! My girlfriends and I went for a long weekend and enjoyed great tennis clinics with Jacob Hansen for 3 days. The courts were maintained beautifully and the entire resort was beautiful as well. We never had to leave the resort…we played tennis, wined, dined, relaxed poolside, and even spent an afternoon at the fabulous spa. I highly recommend Naples Grande Beach Resort. We will definitely be going back again.
My friends and I chose this Resort because everything was on site: pool, tennis, restaurants, spa. The tennis clionic were awesome!!

I am a 4.5 player who visited in December 2008. Fabio gave me some great tips that have really helped my game. The pro shop and Fabio also did a great job getting matches lined up for me. The courts are beautiful, as is the setting. I highly recommend the hotel.
The staff at the Tennis Club is very profesional, the facilities and the tennis courts where in excellent conditions. My weekend vacation’s stay at Naples Grand Resort was for a special tennis event on last February, in which Fabio and all his staff made the best organized and challenging tournament with local tennis players and from different states that came to participate and enjoyed Fabio’s expertice in tournaments as the resort facilities. It was fun and pleasant.
I played in a tennis tournament over President’s week-end. This was an extremely organized event which included excellently outlined pre-tournament informations like room accommodations, how the tournament would be organized, and additional events linked with the tournaments. The hotel itself was an amazing property with contemporary furnishings. The service in every aspect was outstanding including the meals provided at courtside.
The tournament itself was well coordinated by the knowledgeable and skillful three tennis pros who all very actively helped with the organization and running of the tournament itself. I would say they went above and beyond what I would have expected at an event like this. There were extra clinics executed by the pros both days. The courts were emmaculately maintained. I cannot say enough about how well this event was put together and run from the beginning to the end. I would definitely participate again and recommend the experience and property to other tennis friends.
I felt a individual connection with both Jacob and Fabio, the instructors I had at PBI at Naples Grande Beach Resort. I’m usually very nervous when I play with new teaching pros and they both made me feel very comfortable in the clinics that I attended. The individual time that both Jacob and Fabio gave me is much appreciated and I’ve been honing the forehand and serving tips they gave me in the short time I visited this resort. The courts are gorgeous and the staff in the tennis office were friendly and informative, too. I only wish I had time to take more clinics or lessons while visiting this resort.
We have been to this resort for 4 years straight and the new tennis director (Fabio) has made a tremendous difference to their overall approach to the tennis program. My children are 11 and 13 and they both had an excellent time during our stay. They said they were able to learn more this trip then they did in the previous three years combined. I can’t say enough about the positive experiences that we shared as a family at this tennis resort.
Great location. You can walk to the beautiful private beach from the resort. Really nice clay courts.
Tennis director is energetic and worked very hard to arrange matches. Assistant pros were great and always included me in high level doubles and drills. Facility is well kept and clean. Hope to return soon.
I enjoyed that they offered programs for everyone and tried to accomodate everyone. They offered drills for people like myself who were the only tennis player in their groups.
The downside was that some of the drills were not very rewarding since I was slightly a higher level player and was not pushed as much as I like. No fault of the resort just the situation. However, they recognized this and were kind enough to have one of the pros hit with me. Above and beyond the call of duty!!!
Love the courts were very well taking care, the pro Fabio was on top of the members and we had all the needs taking care of. The buffet was super hot food different plates that give variaty the room were clean and supply with all the toilety. The front desk need to have more then one person to help. the bell boys were great. the pool was nice and worm The troulee ride were very pleasent
I participated in the PBI Interclub tournament at Naples Grande Beach Resort from Feb 13th to the 16th. The tournament was great. Everything was well organized and a lot of fun was had by all. The courts were well maintained and Fabio and his staff were very helpful. I would definitely try to go again next year if the tournament is offered.
The only downside is that, although the time spent at the tennis courts made it a great weekend, the service provided by the Hotel staff was very poor and almost ruined the experience. I normally don’t expect much beyond courtesy and couldn’t even get that much out of the Hotel Staff. But I must reiterate again, so there is no confusion, that the tennis staff was exceptional.
We spent 5 days at the Naples Grande in mid December. Our 5 year old son took several tennis lessons. Both Alison and Fabio made his lessons instructive and fun at the same time.
The tennis professionals at the Naples Grande were very informative, instructional and enjoyable to play with. They were very accommodating with their schedule of activities as well.
Great facility, great teaching staff. We had a great time as a family, and met a ton of strong players, whom we plan on connecting with again. Highly recommend.
The Director Fabio is very knowlegeable and interested in meeting the needs of the guests and members. He is trying very hard to build a top notch program. They have clinics every day during the week and events. I hope they can attract advanced players which is difficult for any facility.
very nice facility, capable staff (Jacob and Fabio)who somehow manage to impart more useful knowledge in a few sessions than I get all year from my local pros. How do they do that? It’s not like I live in a backwater area, but they zero in on just the right things. Not as hardcore as Saddlebrook, but more consistent in their method.
I spent January 14 through 17, 2009 at the Naples Grande. They had 15 well maintained Har True courts. They have a one hour clinic with a theme each morning except Sunday. There are also some round robins. I was fortunate to hook up with another guest in the first clinic and we played together several times.
The hotel is excellent. The beach can be reached by a 0.6 mile walk along a boardwalk through a mangrove swamp or by frequent shuttles. The head tennis pro, Fabio Vasconcellos, is enthusiastically working to build an excellent program at the Naples Grande.
My wife and I recently spent three days in Naples Florida at the Naples Grande Beach Resort. We chose this resort because they had tennis clinics on every day except Sunday. We took a clinic each day. Each day covered a different segment such as serve and volley or backhand, etc. The price for the clinic was very reasonable and the quality of the instructors were great. The clinics were small and the instruction was great-what more can you ask for.
Fabio, the head pro, Jacob and Allison, the assistant pros were friendly and went out of there way to make the clinics fun and productive. After the backhand clinic, I was so impressed with how Jacob broke down the stroke that I took a private lesson from him in the afternoon.
After the serve and volley clinic which was taught be Fabio, he encouraged the eight of us to take two open courts and have fun playing doubles. We will definitely go back to see Fabio and his team at the Naples Grand on our next trip to Naples.
The Naples Grande Tennis Club is an excellent facility. Fabio and Allison were very helpful to me and my family during our stay.
We held our 2008 ITA Coaches Convention at the Naples Grande Beach Resort, with over 300 varsity tennis coaches from around the country in attendance. The tennis facilities are excellent. Fabio and Allison are very knowledgable tennis professionals and provide a welcoming environment for all. We look forward to returning to the Naples Grande through 2011 (and hopefully beyond.)
I rang in the New Year with 5 days of tennis instruction at the Naples Grande. Fabio & Jacob did a fantastic job of identifying my weaknesses quickly and suggesting simple and effective adjustments to improve my game. My tennis was markedly better by the end of the trip. Importantly, the instructors were all very friendly and accomodating.
The hotel itself was surprisingly modern and had both a sprawling spa and a new Strip House restaurant. I will definitely return in the future.
I just got back from spending a week at the Resort and I could not have imagined a better way to welcome in the New Year. I participated in both clinics and private lessons and was extremely pleased with both. I worked with both Fabio and Jacob and both gave me great lessons, each adding their unique insight while keeping consistency. At the end of my stay they set up a match and I felt that I could see some definite improvements in my game.
The hotel itself was also very nice, very modern with a cool Miami feel. One negative, while not towards the tennis, was that the beach is a bit of a hike. While they have trams, it does make you less inclined to go. Overall I had a great experience and will take all my lessons at the resort.
Playing tennis at Naples Grande Resort was an awesome esperience. The courts are in excellent conditions, the setting and location of the courts at the club gives you the space you really need to enjoy your private match with friends, or either meet new friends at the club house. Personel at the Resort is very friendly and make you feel at home. Specially, at the Tennis Club, you find Fabio Vasconcellos, Tennis Director & an experience Tennis Pro from PBI, who is willing to make your stay one of the best. Fabio’s clinics and particular tennis lessons are one of a kind! Fabio’s experience as a tennis instructor gives you the unique oportunity to either learn to play good tennis for your first time or to improve your game as well.
I hightly recommend this resort for tennis players that also enjoy the beach, excellent pools facilities, great Spa, excellent fine dining…
We have been going to the Naples Grande (formerly the Registry) for 5 years. The courts are in great condition and the staff and teaching pros are always friendly and helpful.
The head pro and manager of the tennis facility, Fabio Vasconcellos, was very professional, personable and an excellent teacher. He took his own personal time to come to my son’s tennis tournaments that he was playing down in Naples after coaching him at the resort for one week. We thought that was going the extra mile.
