Excellent for small groups and individuals. Skilled professional instruction, not by college students/others. Mountain golfing, spa, workout facilities, indoor and outdoor pools and skiing at same location. I enjoyed the experience so much that I relocated to Wintergreen to enjoy the experience year round.

Great tennis and plenty of courts in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Cool, crisp air, and beautiful surroundings, and it doesn’t get much better than that.

  • WK

Still the finest family tennis facility in the country…Among the finest for Womens and Mens singles and doubles…The new up and coming division: Mixed doubles, especially senior and super senior mixed doubles! (Since I live a mile from 4 of the courts, I visit 2 or 3 times a week.)

  • LH

Strengths: Extremely well structured, low student/teacher ratio 4:1 instructors able to change drill quickly to accomodate different levels of play

  • HB

The Wintergreen Resort is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which offers beautiful scenery and cool climate for participants of the Tennis Academy. The Academy itself is a lot of fun and the instruction is great. Instructors quickly assess your areas of improvement and help you address these, but they also make sure you have fun. It is also nice to be able to play in green clay courts.

Great location, with a refuge from hot weather in the summer; court location attractive; staff very nice. Plenty of things to do in addition to tennis. (From nature hikes to culture festival). For younger and socially very active risks of being somewhat isolated.

  • AS

Great getaway spot in the Blueridge Mountains. Close to a hundred trails nearby for hiking with spectalar views. Lots of different options for lodging including houses, condos and hotel type rooms. Tennis center is fantastic with 15 outdoor courts and several indoor as well. Only con would be the indoor courts get very warm in the summer, sometimes too hot to play in. Tennis shop has the cutest clothes and the Tennis director Jon is outstanding. Also has a great Spa/Fitness Center with indoor and outdoor pools.

  • AC

Great pros, well maintained courts, friendly staff.

  • TR

Tennis program consistently led by highly ranked professionals with a strong emphasis on instruction for all levels. Staff is always personable, knowledgeable, and adaptive. Well-groomed clay courts in a beautiful mountain setting. Active tennis academy and flights. A thriving tennis experience. Tennis shop does not offer a wide selection of inventory but does offer all that one would want for new equipment, repair, or gift ideas.

The tennis academy at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia is excellent. Our ladies tennis team from Richmond has been participating in two weekend clinics there per year for the last seven years. Our skills have improved significantly and we have a lot of fun. Jonathan Sarosiek, the managing pro is terrific. We are always challenged and he develops a variety of drills to keep us moving forward.

  • RW

A premier academy at a premier resort. What a setting on top of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

  • EJ

Good location and the weather is seldom “HOT”. Should it rain and the use of the great courts not be available; there are inside courts. Friendly people both staff and community. Many styles of accomodations available and reasonably priced for groups and families. AND, the restaurants are each the best.

  • CH

Great tennis experience and beautiful setting.

  • MM

Cooler summer days and nights. Well maintained courts, and fantastic clinics.

  • AA

Beautiful mountain top resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains with many outdoor hartru courts and three indoor couts. MAny amenities including skiing, golf, hiking, indoor/outdoor pools, restaurants, nature center, a first class spa and a music festival during the month of July.

  • EB

excellent courts indoor and out, good availability – outdoor courts have wonderful vista and excellent availability. All kept in superb condition. Outdoor courts playable most of year. Both mountain and valley courts so very different venues available.

  • AH

Great coaching on skills and the mental toughness needed for the game!

  • TP

quality courts and quality instruction in beautiful Blue Ridge mountains setting– beat the heat or cold by playing either up on the mountain or down in the valley–

  • FN

First rate but excessively expensive for everything! Quality of instruction erratic.

  • DH

temperatures are 10 degrees cooler on the mountain…great vistas for great tennis

  • MW

Fun atmosphere when I attended a weekend clinic and have played in round-robin events etc. Also – the mountain environment and cooler temperatures was lovely!!!

  • TP

Our family loves the amenties of this resort. It is truly a four season resort with skiing, tubing, tennis and golf. It is so much fun with our three kids and has activities for kids of all ages! With great staff and easy access from the East Coast we go there as much as we can.

  • DM

    1) Abundant courts, all with well-maintained soft surfaces (except for 3 indoors) 2) Very customer-oriented in finding clinics or match-ups at an appropriate level 3) Pro staff over the past ten years consistently have been personally engaging and outstanding in tennis skills and teaching skills, with the ability to use group settings for individual help 4) For short-term visitors not enrolled in week-long programs, a good mix of round-robins, clinics, and cardio-tennis classes available with little advance sign-up required

  • LG

Loved everything about it. Even used the ball machine indoors for my son’s lacrosse goalie training. An added bonus

  • CM

Best facilities in Virginia. Great teachers

  • CM

Great surroundings, professional, informational and facilities

  • CM

The Wintergreen Tennis Academy and facility is one of Virginia’s best kept secrets! What a beautiful setting (both indoor and outdoor courts) in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The staff was exceptional and the experience was fantastic. I recommend this to anyone in the mid Atlantic.

  • EK

Strengths….excellent coaching staff, selection of programs and lovely setting. Year round. Non tennis spouse or kids can ski or golf. Or you can do it all…plus biking and hiking.

  • RP

Be ready to have a great time

  • ST

    Excellent programs for children too

  • JA

A beautiful mountain resort, Wintergreen has many choices of houses and apartments to stay. Lots of outdoor hiking, golf, tennis to do seasonally. The skiing is iffy because the winter weather has been warm.

  • SG

Excellent instructional tennis experience. Very fast-paced, varied drils and exercises, meaningful individual instruction and teaches state-of-the-art tennis strategies. The resort is isolated, but life is homey in the spacious rental houses. I highly recommend it.

  • JC

Wintergreen tennis academies and clinics are terrific. The pros bring their love of the sport every time they step on the court, and instruction is positive, personalized, and productive. Every single time I have taken a clinic, private lesson, or academy, I have gotten some priceless nugget that has improved my game. Great value, gorgeous setting, and top notch instruction make Wintergreen a perennial favorite!

  • SP

This is the fifth year I have taken a tennis team to the weekend academy and every year the girls start committing earlier and earlier to go again. The pros are fabulous, their drills are spectacular, their suggestions are always right on point. These guys care about improving your game and it shows in the time and effor they put into each and every clinic. We’ll be back again next year.

  • WD

    excellent facility and staff

  • JE

wonderful 4 season resort. In the winter…you can ski in morning and play tennis in the afternoon! In the summer…tennis in the morning and great hiking in the afternoon. The spa & pools are relaxing. And the views from the top of the mountain are incredible.

  • MM

I had a terrific experience and cannot think of any reason not to attend. I have many strategies that keep coming up as I play. Also, after making an error, the pros comments keep coming into my mind. The best remark that comes all the time from the pro is “It doesn’t have to be that good!”

  • GM

World Class Instruction. If you want to improve your game, these are the guys to see.

  • AI

I really enjoyed the tennis academy! Received some great pointers for improving my doubles game. All of the pros were knowledgable, and were able to create great drills. I would definitely go back.

  • AL

This year’s tennis academy was the best one I have been to! I have made a few improvements from the academy that have really helped my game! And the academy was so much fun and great exercise! Thanks to Jon and his staff for doing a great job!

  • RC

A fabulous experience! I learned so much and had a blast doing it.

  • MK

great instruction….plenty of court time and match play.

  • RR

small groups, great instruction but more talk than exercise than I would prefer, but I always feel that way!

  • DW

Great, and, affordable Academy. Staff is friendly and accommodating – customizing Academy to our group. Teaching is done in a way that puts practice into play, and, focuses on small changes on technique, shot selection and execution – great experience!

  • SS

I attended the weekend clinic in July 2011 and it was beyond my expectations. I loved the small class size – there were 6 players and two pros and the intense instruction over a three day period. I found it to be a tremendous value to my game, as well as my check book!

  • JP

The instructors combined terrific knowledge of doubles with a wonderful ability to break things down so we could understand. Used humor effectively, but very serious about giving us good instruction.

  • JJ

If you want to improve your doubles game, this is the clinic for you. I attended a weekend 8-hour clinic for doubles in March 2011, and my overall game has improved noticeably. From the exceptional instruction, I gained not only confidence at the net, but also learned to anticipate where the next ball was going to be. The drills are aerobic and mirror realistic situations encountered during matches. It’s a great program for the value. I would not hesitate to attend again.

I have been to the Tennis Academy at Wintergreen several times and loved it each and every time. I could have easily stayed additional days and would not have tired of it. (I would have been tired but I would not have tired of it!) I have been to other “camps” but none compared in terms of instruction and great use of time. There was little or no down time and all aspects of the lesson kept you active and focused. I loved the fact that groups were very small and generally lessons were geared to the groups’ specific needs. When I go to camp, I am there for the tennis. I have been to another camp and there was too much focus on extraneous activities and a lot of time was spent walking from one court to another to meet yet another instructor. br />My only suggestion might be to add a bit more time to the morning session, but most members of my group thought the time frame was good. A restaurant within walking distance from the courts has delicious lunches and dinners but it might be appropriate to change the menu mid-week. The meals were delicious. Accommodations were beautiful. We often stayed in a condo on a ridge overlooking the mountains. Gorgeous!

  • DF

Excellent tennis facility with an outstanding staff! Just make sure you allow enough vacation time to enjoy the entire resort which offers excellent amenities for all ages.

  • AS

You’ve got to play tennis while vacationing at Wintergreen! The courts are in great shape, the staff is so accommodating and knowledgable, plus the price is right! If you need a partner for doubles or want to just play singles, the desk will find you a game. Take a lesson while there, you’ll be glad you did–have fun!
