Club Med Columbus on San Salvador in the Bahamas borders Bonefish Bay, a reef-protected patch of turquoise water rimmed by a white-sand beach, near Cockburnn Town. Not far away is the spot where Christopher Columbus first set foot in the New World—hence the name.
The secluded village consists of colorful, colonial-style two-story bungalows set back from the beach and bordered by lawns, palm trees, and sea grape. An all-inclusive resort, Club Med Columbus bundles not just meals and lodging, but some 22 activities, tennis among them. It is also known for its scuba diving, with a range of add-on programming for everyone from beginners to certified divers. Guests bed down in rooms splashed in blues and reds, variously with sea or garden views, some of the large enough to accommodate four. Among the other amenities and activities are two restaurants, live entertainment, a spa, an array of watersports—snorkeling, windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing, and kayaking, among them—a kids’ club for ages 11 to 17, bike rentals, and live entertainment. The eight clay tennis courts are available day and night—four of them have lights—with daily clinics run by certified pros.

great clay courts, relatively well maintained. daily group lessons (45 minutes) and some tournaments organized. Sand flies.
