When former Top 10 player Tim Mayotte was a student at Stanford, he used to travel to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club to play in the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championships. “I don’t know if it’s nostalgia or what, but I used to always get such a kick out of playing there,” he remembers. “Obviously the setting was so great—it’s right on the beach. There was something about the courts—somebody told me that they were built way deep, that they went way down, so there was kind of a solidness about the way the ball bounced off the court. For me, it was the ultimate hardcourt experience. It sticks in my mind as one of the great places.”
La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club ranks as one of Southern California’s iconic beachfront resorts. It was a beach and yacht club until 1935, when the current owner Bill Kellogg’s great grandfather bought it, added four tennis courts, and began to run tournaments that featured the likes of Bill Tilden, Bobby Riggs, and Jack Kramer. Since then it has attracted a Who’s Who of tennis legends, professional, collegiate, and nationally ranked amateurs. It’s showcase tournament, the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles, is the second oldest in California (after the Ojai) and fifth oldest in the nation. But is its day-to-day devotion to social tennis that accounts for its popularity among avid tennis players. One key to its renown is its tennis host, schedules courts and puts together matches—singles, doubles, or mixed—drawing whenever necessary on a large and diverse stable of local players. That game matching aside, however, its clinics and round robins are clearly geared to mere tennis mortals, with activities for B and C players.
To get a sense of the atmosphere of LJBTC, it is easiest to think of it as a club that also happens to have lodging. Guests often come for a week or more at a time, frequently year after year. “Guests come back the same time every year,” notes Bill Kellogg, the fourth generation to run the club. “If they book the same room for the same week two years running they get priority.” During any given week in the summer, 60% to 70% of the guests have typically been there before. To encourage socializing, the club makes barbecues available to those who want to grill on the beach and twice a week sets up to larger shared grills for anyone to use. “People end up sharing desserts, or whatever,” says Kellogg.

It is a lovely club set on one of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California. It was built in the 1920s and retains the charm of a first class early California resort. The courts are asphalt and there are plenty of them. You can go for a swim in the pool after playing or you can swim in the ocean. There is nothing quite like sitting along the walkway looking out at the water while the sun goes down. It is small by modern standards. There is no building more than 2 stories high. There are no elevators. There is no parking structure. It is like going back in time.
My husband and I went last September 2018. We loved the club. The setting is fantastic. We loved it so much we are going back with the whole family in august 2019. We didn’t attend any clinics, just played on our own. There were a lot of players around and we watched some very entertaining matches as well. The beach and dining room were also very good.
LJBTC continues to be one of my favorite tennis resorts in the country. Fabulous setting, great hard courts, beautiful beach, fantastic staff, phenomenal players of all levels, you name it.
One of the great resort areas in the US! Terrific beach front and great tennis!
Great beach side resort. Suites so you can cook your own meals if you wish, step onto the beach from your room, elite tennis facility, friendly staff. BBQs on the beach in the evening setup outside your room. Just bring food, drink, and plates / utensils. Watch the sunset as you throw a ball with your kids… Not an economy destination but wonderful experience at Beach and Tennis Club.
LJBTC is a historic club right on its own private beach. Gorgeous sunsets, gourmet dining in The Marine Room as well as excellent dining at reasonable prices in the other restaurant and poolside. Shops and restaurants from burger joints to fine dining are a two-block walk. My favorite tournament of the year is the second week of the year. Director of tennis, Conan, provides a full adult and junior program year-round, but runs as player-friendly a tournament as you will find; including a back draw, two great player parties and $99 a night player rates on rooms that speak of the history of the place. If you prefer rooms with a newer feel, LJBTC works conjointly with La Jolla Shores, which is adjacent to it. Downtown La Jolla offers amazing shopping sea lion watching, snorkeling. Surfing, kayaking and more can be arranged through the club, which is also a short drive from Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, Lego Land, and much more.
Great relaxing vacation destination for family and adults. It’s especially nice for tennis enthusiasts. Singularly beautiful sunsets.
Nice atmosphere.
this is a great place to visit, even if you don’t play tennis. however, the courts are in great condition and the staff are friendly and helpful.
Consistently, the most beautiful, respectful, charming and relaxing resort we look forward to visiting every year! I know it isn’t possible, but one might get the impression that the LJBT management were in control of the gorgeous weather as well. Always a perfect stay and wonderful memories.
awesome experience every time
a wonderful place for swimming golf restaurants relaxation and entertainment
The staff was very profession, but pleasant and approachable.
LJBTC is one of our top two favorite tennis getaways! (The other is La Quinta) While exclusive, it is completely unpretentious. Because the beach is private, you can eat on the beach, enjoy a drink, watch the gorgeous sunset, all without masses of tourists or crowds. As vegetarians the menus in the various restaurants are not as veggie-friendly as they could be, though the staff and kitchen will gladly substitute or come up with something novel to your liking.
Most importantly, the tennis is fantastic… Neda (We love you!) will fix you up with all your tennis heart desires. Courts are pristine, mostly wind-shielded (also depends on time of year, so call ahead and ask), the gym has everything you need, massages are phenomenal. The rooms are generally small and basic, but cozy. The ocean-facing units are super-romantic. Staff is super friendly, courteous and professional. There’s one big pool, with certain hours reserved for lap and adult swimming.
It’s definitely a family-oriented environment, but still quiet and units secluded enough for adults-only enjoyment. You can easily leave the grounds and drive into town. But we found we didn’t want to leave the premises. If you have an extended stay and want a change from the two onsite restaurants and beach shack, do check out the restaurant and bar at the neighboring Shores Hotel (you can just walk over). All in all, you won’t find a better tennis resort this close to the ocean. You can’t go wrong with LJBTC. Highly, highly recommended.
For many years I have visited the LaJolla Beach and Tennis Club. There probably is not a better spot in the World to spend time! You have the beach right outside your door, terrific tennis with for all levels and great choices of food either at the club or right down the beach at LaJolla Shores.
Location is awesome .. easy drive from airport.. all employees super friendly.. the tennis instruction was great.. and the beach is amazing
It’s a spectacular place. Great beach and fantastic tennis facilities.
We loved the week we spent at La Jolla Beach & Tennis club. All members of the staff pro and otherwise was very eager to please. Court availability and lessons were very easy to book and again could not be more helpful. Very impressed with the level of the Pro’s and made you feel like you were a member of the club.
The location was very accessible as it was an easy drive up from San Diego airport and is located in one of the most beautiful spots on the beach in Southern California.
Highly recommend for families and even a girls weekend get away.
This a great place for vacation, we go here every year.
This was an awesome tennis camp, both in terms of the tennis instruction and the facility. While the rooms are not luxurious, the ocean views and the spaciousness are unbeatable and the courts are tops. The instruction was first-rate–just the right mix of seriousness and jocularity.
Location on the beach in La Jolla is fantastic. Staff are extremely professional and friendly. Court 2 is the best place in the USA for tennis…intimate, and the sound of waves crashing can be heard between hits. Fitness facility is compact but thorough, locker rooms are modern and elegant, view from the restaurants of the beach and La Jolla Cove is perfect.
I have been going to this resort for over 20 years and I would never go anywhere else when traveling to San Diego. The only weakness is that there is not hot tub, something I will quickly overlook for the quaint feel and personalized service that is beyond perfect every time I stay here.
The LaJolla Beach and Tennis club is a unique, relaxing, charming resort located on a beautiful location right on the ocean. You can literally walk out of your room right onto the sandy beach. The management and staff work hard to make every part of your vacation enjoyable and first class. This is a regular part of our summer plans. We feel that there is no other spot as great as this for a truly beautiful southern California vacation.
Fantastic, warm, helpful staff. Delicious food. Outstanding service. Beautiful setting.
Strengths: service and court maintenence, proximity to hotel and availability.
amazing setting, amazing weather, amazing staff…left and wanted to go back immediately!! Heaven! Great pool too!
Most enjoyable experience
Great pros. Good value for $$. Good location.
Our family loves the LJBT. We have four daughters and we play as a family with a pro regularly. I also have family reunions each summer and we do round robins with cousins, etc. The pros are fantastic. My stroke is what it is because of the pros there. I take regular lessons at two country clubs in Dallas (and have been for over 20 years) but nothing compares!
My husband and I are still talking about our stay at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in California. My initial reason for choosing La Jolla was the fact that it has a beach as part of its property. Having gone to other tennis resorts that claim easy access to a beach, the opposite was true: it was tough to park, pay as the meter ran out and inconvenient.
This resort has it all. The beach, a cove, is part of the property. One of the restaurants has an entire wall of windows to capture seabirds, surfers and jumping fish! Although La Jolla B&T Club offers a lot, everything is so well placed that one does not have to walk far or drive to get to different things.
The guest desk, open 24/7, the pool, the spa pool, the tennis shop and sign up area, the restaurants with exceptionally great food, comfortable seating among the gardens and parking are all in a central area. From there the many beautiful courts spread out but are all easy to access as are the little golf course and parking. I would say that the atmosphere at a resort is one of the most important intangibles and this one is quiet but busy with people headed to all the offerings or enjoying the offerings. Every employee we met went out of their way to help with something you need, be it in the dining room, in your room, using the grounds, exploring the nearby area or going for a trip outside the resort. My hair dresser visited the city of La Jolla a week after we did, unbeknownst to me, and said she could stay for a long, long time. All I can say is she should have seen the resort and she would have felt the unique relaxation and welcoming we felt from the physical facilities and the people.
We were able to create our own package with the help of the front desk personnel and we now know what a great deal we got. Simple terrific holiday!
Strengths: Location, tennis facilities Weakness: Accomodations are old and outdated. Capital Improvements need to reflect the prestige of the area and cost of rooms
its simply the the best on all levels, tennis , lodging ,food ,location, location, and all of the staff from house keeping thru tennis
My family’s favorite vacation destination. Tennis, beach, golf, amazing food, sunsets. Something for everyone in an extremely friendly environment. Great staff.
I love to play tennis and upon arriving as a hotel guest at the La Jolla facility I was shocked by the quality and condition of the tennis facility and didn’t know until we checked in that we were granted access to these tournament courts. Throughout our stay, I spent time watching the instruction, which was extremely professional. I will choose this location due in part to the tennis facility along with everything else.
La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is the ultimate family beach vacation. Our time spent here is always an annual highlight for our family.
Beautiful place! Excellent tennis pros! We have visited two years in a row and are planning to return for a third year this fall. The rooms are very comfortable and well cared for. I love the vintage feel of the whole place – all with top notch facilities, dining and staff! Everyone there is very friendly – feels like you are back for a visit to your hometown! The tennis instruction is excellent – I always learn new techniques and just have a blast playing on the beautiful courts. Love it!
Love the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. Literally on the Pacific Ocean- this resort provides great tennis and beach fun. Both the hotel and tennis staff are warm and always helpful. I’ll never forget a fabulous dinner we had in their first class restuarant as we watched the sun set on the ocean-truly a memory forever. A must for one looking for good and tennis and relaxation!
Beautiful location on the beach. Friendly staff. Nice accomodations. Close to shops and restaurants.
We are so pleased with our Easter vacation. Would love to make it an annual event. Loved the beach bbqs and fires on the beach with friends to end our great days. Watching the children on Easter and all the great events was wonderful. Don’t play tennis but just loved it. Thanking La Jolla beach and tennis. Can’t wait to come again. Will recommend to all friends
Great tennis facilities and you are right on the ocean… A gem of a property!
La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club is a wonderful destination for the overall getaway. The tennis was great, and there are plenty of othe activities to take part in while you are there, or just relax on the beautiful beach.
amazing location, directly on the ocean and less than 10 minutes from downtown LaJolla. Tennis facilities are very good. The rooms and public spaces in the hotel are a bit dated, and could use some renovations.
This is a wonderful summer family place. We always could find an open court when we wanted one and it was great to cool off at the beach after a game.
Top notch instruction, great food and location and a beautiful and comfortable place to vacation.
Staff was very welcoming & helpful; rooms were clean. Dining was not to quality that I expected.
Excellent vacation setting with a traditional environment. Several activities on sight and within close driving. Our family can stay there for a week without leaving and find something new every day! Great staff both on the court and in the office. Our family has been coming for over 40 years. We’d like to stay more often, however the cost prohibits us from booking in the summer time anymore. We do try and visit as often as possible.
If you are going to the San Diego area and you like to play tennis there is no better place to stay the the LJB&T…great location to all communities in & around the San Diego area, on the beach, great restaurants within minutes of the resort and good tennis at all playing levels.
My wife, son and I had a great time at La Jolla. It is rich in tennis tradition, which is important to my family and the beauty of the club and hotel is second to none. We played tennis and enjoyed the dining along the beach. It was a life memorable experience having coffee and seeing the dolphins swimming right off the shore. We look forward to coming back.
Friendly and helpful staff and amazon scenery! One of the best!
I plan to return to La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club next year. The pros were amazing. I loved, loved, loved the beach view!
Best place in the world to combine tennis and beach fun!
Exceeded our expectations: lodging, setting, grounds, tennis pro proficiency, office, resturant, housekeeping, value thank you
There is not a better place for tennis, beach activities, par 3 golf, and beach dining!! I have loved every minute I have been there with either family or friends!!
I found it to be a very nice place, with excellent accomidations. The staff were very helpfull and pleasant to deal with. I would recomend it to all my friends.
The tennis courts are well maintained and set back from the beach but not too far – you can still hear and feel the ocean breeze. The resort itself is simply wonderful and a must-not-miss for anybody who loves the the beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
Fantasdtic……and full of old fashion “clubby” chram……..I take my family there at least 16 time s a year !!
Top notch in every way. We have been 3 times in the last couple of years for a week each and look forward to returning. Great restaurants within walking distance and very close to the Village and San Diego
We found the facilites extremely clean; the grounds beautifully maintained, and the staff went the “second-mile” in striving to answer any question or meet any need we had. We’d highly recommend this wonderful facility, especially for families:)
Loved it. The weather was beautiful, the courts were well-maintained, the staff was very helpful. The rooms were getting a little run-down and the courtside water wasn’t cold but that isn’t stopping me from returning again this year.
Wonderful! Have been going there annually for 27 years. Perfect for young families, but wonderful for anyone! We go each year with another family who plays tennis. My children play tennis, my husband and I don’t. We go for the “Beach” part of what the club offers.
This is a great tennis and beach club, a great kept secret of the best when it comes to great tennis and great amenities. It doesn’t get any better when it comes to exceptional tennis facilities and beautiful beaches. A true jewel of North America Resorts.
We had a quiet 2 room suite and 2 bath fully functional kitchen right on the beach The pool area is great for little ones and bigger kids. The restaurant/staff is very nice and accomadating. You are close to great restaurants in town and of course Sea World is only 25 mins away..This place is great for family fun. Young and old will have a wonderful time.
We wanted to be ON the beach..we have 3 small children under 9 years old..the room was ok, could have been bigger–but LOVED being so close to the beach, which is why we came..loved the walk to town..the bbq on the beach at night and the service for the bbq set up. The pool area is just ok, nothing special..the room, also nothing special..we dont play golf, or tennis really-but took a court for an hour–we came for the beach experience and we had fun–very laid back..We usually go to the Hotel Del, and the price points are similiar..But, the Del is classy, the resort spotless, so many restaurants, tons of things for kids to do–the room VERY nice and we had a junior suite..as large, if not larger than your 1 bedroom..
they have hosted the father/ daughter national hardcourts for the last 2 years. the courts were available to competitors for warmups and fun matches during our stay. the staff was extremely welcoming during our stays. location is idyllic- a 150 yard long veranda runs 15 yards from the ocean. the hotel ran cookouts on the beach for all the participants. great nearby restaurants of every kind. resort is owner operated for at least 2 generations; great tennis people. grounds contain a 9 hole chip and putt course for giggles.
Rooms and facilities and staff and beach and ambience etc etc are all exceptional, there are plenty of activities for everyone in our family including our four children aged 11 through 18. A stellar property!
I have been on six continents and consider myself an extensive world traveler. I’ve stayed in everything from youth hostels to five star luxury resorts. There is no place on earth like the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club! Having lived in La Jolla for several years, it always feels as though I’ve returned home upon check in. There is a certain warmth and charm and quaintness to the place as it hasn’t changed much in all the years it’s been there. There are so few properties on the sand in California, and this one is by far THE BEST.
The staff is wonderful, and the food is respectable. The beachside service is exceptional, and there are fantastic activities for children. The rooms could use a little TLC, but the views more than make up for that! It is extremely rare to find a resort that is perfect for both romantic getaways and family vacations, but the LJB&TC pulls it off with flying colors! It is truly a gem of a place and is an excellent example of the “the jewel” that is La Jolla.
My family has been summer vacationing here for the past 20+ years. It is an experience like no other…The beach is pristine, cleaned every day, and is just steps from your backdoor. Country club service on the beach…it doesn’t get better than that. Don’t forget to reserve your outdoor bbq pit from the beach concierge. Cooking outdoor with all of the other families/guests/members is quite an experience. There is no comparison to this property. Don’t expect much from the rooms…they are spacious and right on the beach. Bite the bullet and pay for a room facing the water.
Fantastic location and fantastic staff. Older buildings, but that even lends to it’s charm.
Strengths- Just a great place to be. Right on the beach, wonderfuld views, great restaurants nearby, so relaxing, great tennis, wonderful staff. Weakness – Can be pricey.
Our family has a history of visiting this fine outstanding resort. You really have everything you need: great beach, great weather, fantastic atmosphere. You can shop. We really like the cove walk. It is fun to walk over from the beach club along the cliff to downtown La Jolla.
Beautiful, relaxing, actually, ON THE BEACH.
Tennis Camp was awesome experience! Pros were very helpful, friendly, and seemed truly interested in improving our game! The instruction was top notch–my tennis game was so inspired when I left there! I gained so many great tips from the pros while there! Facilities were fabulous; room was right on beach and the resort was full of families enjoying beautiful weather they were having. Fire pits on beach at night were a great way to end day of great tennis!
It is the best, the setting, the history and tradition. I don’t feel there is another place like it.
Excellent private with head pro, beautiful setting with amazing views. Apartment directly on water with dolphins and sea lions in view. Fire pits on the beach at night. Very comfortable atmosphere with friendly staff! Our accommodations were more than I expected, was very pleasantly surprised! Just a short drive to downtown La Jolla shopping and restaurants. Definitely going back when it is warmer and take some tennis friends!
The setting is wonderful, on a beautiful stretch of sandy beach in La Jolla. The bonfire and marshmallow roast the beach concierge set up for us was magical. This is one of our favorite places. Our room, though spacious, quiet and comfortable, was a bit outdated.
If you love tennis in a beach resort atmosphere with great restaurant choices, you can’t beat the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
Stayed during the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament. Watched some outstanding matches, and the tournament was run exceptionally. The staff from the maid to the management was very accommodating. Looking forward to next year.
The staff is very helpful, friendly and out to please the guest in every way. The restaurant is especially good! Accomodations are varied and very comfortable. We don’t stay for the tennis, but for a solid accomodation in La Jolla. Weakness is that upkeep on buildings is less than A+.
Perfect beach location. Perfect weather for tennis, well kept courts and the service was very friendly.
The best tennis and beach resort I’ve ever stayed at. A full time employee will arrange a game if needed. There are Club Members at all levels to choose from. The Beach is private. Lots of equipment–chairs, lounge chairs and BBQ’s–and a staff to set-it-up for you. Wonderful for children.
Ultimate professional tennis facility located on desirable acreage of beautiful grounds complete with Par 3 golf course. Set along a clean stretch of pristine private beach. A true feeling of resort style living. A perfect upscale get a way in the beautiful village of La Jolla which is surrounded with fabulous local restaurants and activities.
The place to be whether romantic time or grande family time ! Spa is dreamy and beach is private private !
Loved waking up to the sounds of the ocean. You really feel like you are away. The staff is so professional and helpful.
Accommodations are perfect for family getaways – offering full kitchens, living space and multiple bedrooms! And, the location on a private beach is superb.
Large suite of rooms. very relaxing. Recommend second floor full view of ocean. visited in October 2010. Comfortable, lived-in feel.
The best family vacation spot on the West Coast for both tennis and water activities…the rooms right on the beach in La Jolla Cove cannot be beat and the friendly family atmosphere gives the resort a specail feeling…. dinnertime on the beach with your own BBQ simply can’t be matched anywhere…a must visit for families!
Absolutely outstanding resort! Best beach location and tennis setting I’ve seen anywhere. The staff is incredibly friendly and reliable. My family with two small girls stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful time. I would highly recommend it. Be sure to say hi to General Manager John Campbell, the nicest guy on Earth.
Great location. Great service. Looking forward to next trip.
A wonderful spot for families!! Outdoor grilling each evening is amazing! There is NO place like la jolla beach and tennis club in the world! No dressy clothes only bathing suits, tennis attire, sweatshirt needed!
I have been visiting LJBTC regularly for 10 or more years and am always overwhelmed by its beauty and location and excellent staff and service. As I generally go with a group of friends and spouses in the off-season, we don’t lack for players, but I could see how a single in the off-season might have trouble finding a partner to play. But knowing the great staff there my guess is they can find one for you. I intend to continue to visit LJBTC for many seasons to come.
beach and tennis… what more can you ask for? Well there is quite a bit more… the club’s charm and tradition make it a wonderful experience
The resort is amazing. Right on the water, with unbelieveable views. The tennis club is world class with a rich tradition of old and new. I would say that if you love tennis there is no better place to be. The people are very friendly and the food is wonderful. What else could you ask for in a resort.
Great place to escape and play on the courts while being right on the beach at La Jolla cove.
The LJBTC is in a “one of a kind” location – tennis, swimming, great food and service, wonderful rooms and right on the Pacific Ocean in beautiful La Jolla.
Excellent tennis facilities with a very accomplished tennis director who arranges matches with hotel guests and members. Private, flat, protected beach; very user friendly facilities; excellent family environment with activities for all ages. The beach is an extension of your room!
Breathtaking ocean-front view. First-class accommodation!
We stayed at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club in November 2010. The stay was fabulous – the rooms were beautiful, the views outstanding, and the staff members were friendly and attentive. The newer, updated suite on the 2nd floor where we stayed, with an ocean view, was paradise. You could hear the ocean as you went to sleep. Fabulous location too!
The resort is nicely remodeled. You feel like you are staying at home and not at a hotel. You can’t beat the location and the price was reasonably. I especially liked that it wasn’t crowded and the staff was friendly.
I actually LIVED in San Diego for over a year and I will have to say during my tenure I looked and stayed at many places and the week I stayed here remains the best part of my entire San Diego Experience.
We had a wonderful time at the La Jolla Tennis and Beach Club. The location is superb. The tennis courts are in great shape and the club grounds are lovingly maintained. The staff is helpful and courteous. The hotel rooms are a bit dated perhaps, but everything else more than makes up for that. (Our “exceptional” rating for lodging is mostly reflective of the step-out-onto-the-beach nature of the rooms). Our only wish is that management adds the Tennis Channel to the cable lineup in the rooms! 🙂 All in all, we would go back in a heartbeat.
The location is absolutely beautiful and the staff complimented the embiance with their friendly and efficient, welcoming attitude. I would HIGHLY recommend this location for a fabulous, relaxing California vacation!
Love this place!!
By far one of the most beautiful, relaxing and scenic resorts I’ve been to. The customer service was excellent; warm, friendly and most accomadating. Our suite was clean, comfortable and quiet. Being the resort is older (which I do love the history and the quaintness), it tends to have an “older” smell. It wasn’t too overpowering to make it unpleasant, but it was present. The beach and grounds were clean the tennis courts were amazing! Loved playing there. I was only there for recreational play. Being my husband of 21 years and I met in La Jolla, had our first date in La Jolla, got engaged in La Jolla and had both our children at Scripps La Jolla; La Jolla is a very special place for me!!
A perfect blend of tradition, location and good food. This club has not been glamorized by new owners as have so many. In my forty years of going there everything has remained excellent
I went to this resort for an extended weekend “tennis camp” with 40 other women from Oklahoma last fall. They handled our large group with ease and charm! The Pros at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club were sincerely interested in improving our game! They remembered everyone’s name and their individual strengths and weaknesses. The attention we received from the pros was beyond any expectation. Our group is going back this year too!!
La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club was an excellent resort and tennis club! I recommend it to everyone!
La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is the perfect setting to completely relax by the sea and has one of the best beaches on the planet. I’ve been going for 33 years. Their Club Dining and Marine Room restaurants are excellent and every thing is provided with the finest service. I highly recommend.
I recently spent 4 days at the resort, primary for business. While I did not use any of the tennis facilities, I was extremely pleased with my entire experience at the LJBTC. Room, staff, service and food were first-rate, and I am planning to book a large conference at this resort later this year.
La Jolla makes you feel like you are a member of an exclusive private club. It combines well-kept tennis courts with a pristine beach experience. The ambience is friendly and casual. My family played tennis, par 3 golf, and swam in the pool and the ocean. My daughter got married in a beautiful sunset ceremony on the beach and our party dined in a private tent. The rooms were not fancy, but they were comfortable.
Check into this perfect location and then enjoy the LaJolla Cove with surf at your feet, walking distance to town, ideal dinner spot at the Marine Room, all come with fantastic guest services and staff! I recommended the Club for my company event, and now my clients would be disappointed if we even chose another spot. Many comment they wished they had brought their wives…
Fantastic, casual vibe, wonderful beachfront location!
A magical spot we have been going to for over 20 years. Nothing fancy but great location, it always stays the same and right on the ocean. The breezeway is magical. The beach umbrellas are magical. Close to town. Love, LOVE, LOVE it here!
I absolutely love this resort! I came as a kid and love it just as much as an adult. The tennis is fantastic and BBQ’ing on the beach in the evening is such a fun family event. I highly recommend this resort! We hope to come back very soon.
This resort has great amenities, superb instruction, beautiful accomodations. I have been to a few tennis resorts and this my favorite by far! Easy to get to! Great weather !!!
Loved the location, facilities and staff. They were so accomodating to our large group and extremely qualified.
The staff excels in every area possible, from check in to housekeeping to lifeguards. The resort is exceptionally beautiful…pristine and inviting, with gorgeous views and amazing food. The shopping on site is divine, which was unexpected…the Tennis Shop is an absolute must while visiting!
I have played international and national level junior tournaments and have played at Division I team for 4 years. Overall the best club/ pros that I have ever seen.
Incredible location. Attentive Staff. Great facilities and weather.
Fantastic place. Great tennis facilities, pool area, and beach strolling.
Fabulous club. The staff and the facilities are top notch. Very easy to use the tennis courts, beachside barbeque facilities, beach, etc. Enjoyable for the entire family.
Absolutely wonderful place! It has everything it needs to be one of the best tennis resort in the nation – great courts, fantastic weather, amazingly kind people, and the ocean right in front!
The only weakness is that there aren’t enough restaurants/bars around the area to go to at night. However, beautiful San Diego is approximately 20 min away, so its not that bad 🙂 Overall, great place. I had a blast there, so I highly recommend it to anyone.
La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club is truly a magnificent spot. The location of the club, the layout and the surroundings are truly amazing. But what makes this club truly memorable is the the staff. From the people at the front desk to the teaching pros; everyone’s goal is to make your stay and experience an unforgettable one. This is why I choose to visit LJBTC every year.
Great club, highly recommended.
An incredible place to stay. One of my favorite places to visit.
I love going to the club because it’s on the beach; which makes it very peaceful. The rooms and the grounds are always extremely well kept and if traveling alone it is a place you always feel safe. The food is a wonderful presentation both for the eyes and the palate! The only problem I had recently was with housekeeping showing up very early to clean my room.
this place is the best. great staff.
I recently stayed at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club for a long weekend with (many!) members of my family, and it was the best vacation we’ve had in years. The service was absolutely fabulous. Our rooms were right on their private beach. The club put together a party for our family on the beach one night with all the amenities. Fire pit, barbecue, tables, chairs, amazing food and drinks. This trip is going to be a wonderful memory for our whole family. Everything was taken care of by the staff, and we were all able to relax and have a great time together. The tennis facilities and programs were exceptional. We were also able to take private lessons with their pro, Conan. I don’t remember his last name, but he was great!!! Highly recommend!
I don’t personally play tennis, but have been present during many of the wonderful tournaments played at this fantastic resort. The La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club has something for every member of the family and with all it offers, there is no need to leave the property once you arrive. 5 Star “everything” and the location could not be more perfect !
