Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection, makes a dramatic first impression. As you pass through the front doors where you’d expect to find a lobby, instead, you encounter a soaring atrium whose centerpiece is a meticulously crafted outrigger canoe. Walls with murals adorn the modern lounge areas. The hotel rises on lands that once belonged to Hawaiian royalty, and the grounds still hold archeological sites and ancient fishponds. Lava outcrops punctuate the coast, the legacy of the volcanoes that backdrop the resort (one of which, Mauna Loa, erupted in the distance early in the hotel’s opening). It feels as if you’ve set foot in a place that simultaneously exists in the modern and ancient worlds.
The beach and paths to those ancient fishponds beckon and so does the Mauna Lani Sports Club, a free shuttle or five-minute walk away. The facility, which has hosted both a Davis Cup tie and a Champions Tour event, has five tennis courts and four pickleball courts, painted in the colors of the Australian Open and bordered by oleander hedges and trellised patios. Cliff Drysdale Tennis manages the programs and has installed Simon Curtin. Born in Norwich, England, he is a lifelong tennis player, competing in both junior and college tennis and rising to a national ranking of 150 in the UK. Prior to coming to Mauna Lani, he had coached at luxury resorts and high-performance centers in Spain, Italy, Greece, Australia, and Morocco. Here, he stages adult and junior programs, cardio tennis, and pickleball and serves not only guests of the Mauna Lani but also visitors and locals.

An amazing tennis program and experience. Mauna Lani has amazing facilities and the tennis coaching is exceptional. Simon and Josh really helped improve my footwork, balance, and serve. Simon is amazing to work with and the overall program meticulously organized. Highly recommend Mauna Lani for high level players (4.5+).
We had a wonderful tennis experience at the Mauna Lani on the Big Island of Hawaii (June 2024). My husband and 16 year old daughter each had their own private lessons, my 12 year old son had group lessons with his friends and I participated in the daily 3.0 adult clinics. Everyone had a very positive and fun experience overall. Coaches Simon, Josh and Kristina were all top-notch and made everything super fun for all. Facilities and courts were excellent, including icy cold towels, water and Gatorade at every court. Simon was very responsive and attentive via email when I was scheduling everything. Overall, a memorable experience for all of us! Thank you!
Simply spectacular.
Wonderful location, lots of courts, fun courteous instruction
Mauna Lani tennis program is excellent. The facilities of course are first rate, but what makes the tennis program sing of course is the people. The head of tennis & his staff are engaged, focused, and can really play/give great coaching. For example, whenever we visit, the head pro sets up matches for our son with local high school kids. No really negatives, though once in a while around Christmas the courts are full so can’t get a court exactly when you want it (I guess that is a good problem?)
The tennis instruction is insanely good and has dramatically improved my game. Love this resort, the staff and most of y’all the tennis pros!
This is an incredibly beautiful location on the Kohala Coast of Hawai’i, and Auberge Resorts makes the most of it with excellent fine and casual dining, rich cultural programs and a wealth of activities. Take an e-bike tour or walk through historic fishponds and lava trails, snorkel, swim and (in season) surf, hike a shoreline trail past snoozing turtles, enjoy an elegant and gracious luau, etc. On top of that, take advantage of a lovely, landscaped tennis and pickleball garden, with lots of fun activities (glow-in-the-dark pickleball ,social round robins and mixed pickleball/tennis events among them), energetic and kind pros, and welcoming local members and snowbirds.
The experience here is top notch with everything at your fingertips from high caliber tennis, pickle ball, spa services, dining, adventure and relaxing! The pros can adapt to make your experience challenging or just for fun depending on what you need that day. The best place to escape into tropical paradise!
This is a beautiful, well-maintained, tennis facility with the gym and a swimming pool attached to the Mauna Lani Auberge resort I highly recommend it. The tennis instruction is excellent. The courts are very well maintained and the Pro Shop staff are extremely professional. You cannot find a better tennis facility on the Big Island of Hawaii. Simon is my favorite tennis pro!
I have been visiting Mauna Lani for 15 years and it has dramatically improved every aspect of my stay with tennis being exceptional. It never feels crowded or rushed but the staff is very experienced in customer service. I’ll be staying for 2 months this summer starting in July 2024.
Fabulous pro/coach Beautiful courts
My parents and I come here to unwind. It’s the best place for our family to hang out! I can’t ask for more. I played tennis and learned a lot from Coach Simon. He is the best Coach at Mauna Lani!
We are vacation rentals management in Big Island, Hawaii. We are recommending our guests to visit the Mauna Lani Fitness Center and our guests are very happy and satisfied with the recommendations. As a family we spent our time here to relax and my son learned to play his best tennis with Coach Simon! Highly recommended to come and play tennis with him. My son got his trophies because of his good trainings!
Wonderful friendly staff
Second time staying and playing at this resort. Most recent was a 3-week stay in Feb 2024. Best tennis resort experience in many trips to Hawaii. Top shelf facilities, with well maintained tennis and pb courts, nice pro shop, gym, spa, etc. Head pro, Simon, and his staff do a great job of creating a fun and professional atmosphere. Simon quickly matched me up with some local 4.0+ tennis players, and I had no issues setting up singles and doubles matches several times per week. Also played in a weekly high level clinic with locals and the pros. Connected with a local pickleball group at the club, playing 3x per week with them. Very receptive to visitors. Wife and I are looking forward to coming back again next year.
Great tennis programs, instructors. Private lessons are outstanding. Clinics are daily – the staff does an excellent job of adapting each clinic to a range of abilities among players. The courts are in excellent shape and maintained. The setting is among gardens, grass and water feature. The club is easy to access and easy to park. It is in a great location. The office and tennis staff are friendly, professional and helpful. I attend tennis clinics, private lessons and informal play five days a week. I have taken my instruction and experience from the Mauna Lani Tennis and Fitness club back to my tennis program/ USTA play in California.
Awesome place. A beautiful location. Lovely resort. Excellent staff
Everyone needs to experience Auberge Mauni Lani. Exceptional service, best tennis ever.
Kristina is my favorite! She makes everything so much fun. I will continue to visit as long as she is there. The resort could use more cats though.
Great place and great pros especially Kris McDermott
Everyone at the Mauna Lani were very welcoming and kind. The tennis staff knows how to help learn new skills while also keeping it light and fun. Would recommend this club!
Coach Kristina McDermott is fun, professional, engaging and has a high tennis and pickleball IQ. She is wonderful with the clients, students and staff. You are fortunate to have her as an employee. She is a wonderful ambassador for your resort. I will be scheduling more lessons with her when I return to the island.
Great, Coach Kris is wonderful, fun and knowledgeable…..
The Mauna Lani resort is fantastic and the racket club is awesome! For tennis I took private lessons and did some clinics, and pickle ball I did clinics and round-robin play. I would definitely recommend any guest (regardless of skill level) to check out either sport as the staff/coaches are amazing!
My family and I recently visited the big island of Hawaii staying at the Mauna Lani auberge. We are avid tennis players and we’re thrilled when we arrived to see all the different options for us. We loved the morning cardio clinic and our daughter had so much fun in her junior class. The coaching staff and pro shop were all very friendly and knowledgeable.
The best Tennis Resort iv been too!
Wonderful experience at Mauni Lani!! The highlight of our trip was the amazing tennis and pickleball facilities and the exceptional staff at the tennis centre. They made us feel so welcome and were so accommodating to all of our requests. I would recommend Matt Dudley and his staff to all visitors!!
Mauna Lani Tennis was welcoming from my initial phone call. Staff is excellent all around from from dest , to grounds keeper, and pros. Jay, Christina & Josef, the three pros that I interacted with were personable, informative, and always with a smile. I’m looking forward to my next visit.
You will have an amazing time at Mauna Lani. The Pros are fun and keep the camps and training exciting and challenging. My favorite Pro is Kristina. She is not only knowledgeable but encouraging and fun. You will not be disappointed here. The setting is beyond amazing. JUST GO!!
Visited the resort three times and was never disappointed. Fitness centre including pool, tennis and pickle ball were all highlights. Would love to return in the not too distant future.
Best vacation ever! I learnt how to play pickleball. Harrison was an amazing pro. Iv now started playing pickleball back home 3 times a week. Without Harrison’s great coaching and encouragement I wouldn’t be in/love with this sport. Thanks Mauna Lani 🙂
Best Racket Resort I have been too. 10/10 for me. Matt and his pro’s have created a culture that I have never seen. I met a writer from the NY Times and she couldn’t rave more about Mauna Lani’s Programs and Pro’s.
Best tennis resort I have ever played at. Matt Dudley has set the greatest programs I have ever seen. What a staff they have! 5 star’s all the way
I really enjoyed my stay at the Mauna Lani, especially playing tennis and pickleball. The staff was exceptional, I really enjoyed hitting with Harrison and Simon. Everyone was very nice and professional. 10/10 would recommend anyone who is trying to up their game
Amazing Setting, Amazing Resort, Amazing Tennis Instructors, Amazing Pickleball Instructors.
So many activities to do on Resort Property.
Excellent staff who cater for your personal needs and ability level. Great fasciitis.
Amazing tennis and pickle ball venue, all the courts had recently been resurfaced and the facilities were incredible. Teaching pros were top notch and very enthusiastic – I would highly recommend to anyone looking for high level tennis/pickleball instruction paired with high levels of fun!
For sure worth it to do private lessons with the knowledgeable and professional staff
Food was outstanding as were the grounds. Accommodations were very good also. The weather was divine…the Caribbean without bugs. Tennis was a do it yourself prospect.
Had a great time hitting with both pros. Dave and Andy were able to give some valuable tips to this ageing 4.5, trending to 4.0 player. At the same time, able to get a couple of good hours of hitting in. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.
Courts were resurfaced recently. The best part is the great group of tennis players there on vacation and local players in March of every year. The on court water, Gatorade and iced towels are a nice touch as well. Andy Klug, Activity Director and long time tennis director and pro is top notch.
Great tennis pro. Pros will set you up with doubles partners. Courts recently resurfaced and play really well. Forgiving surface.
Exciting things happening here. Courts finally being resurfaced. Pro Staff meaningfully upgraded. This a great place to enjoy desert like weather in Hawaii while playing tennis in beautiful setting.
I had an awesome experience with Andy the tennis pro at Mauna Lani. After taking a year off of tennis, I was feeling insecure about playing again. But after a couple of lessons with Andy, he helped my swing and my confidence immensely. I’m now ready to play full time again. I look forward to taking lessons with Andy when I’m back in November. I highly recommend!
Jane and I experienced both group and private lessons from Andy. Andy is an excellent instructor – certainly helped us break some bad habits and put together some skills that our coach back home has been helping us with. The staff are very friendly, helpful and the facilities are excellent. We highly recommend the Mauna Lani Tennis Complex. The tennis itself and our tennis friends dinner party were one of the highlights of our trip.
I recently vacationed in the Mauna Lani resort and played tennis at this facility half a dozen times including four semi private lessons with Andy, the tennis director. We have had a few other lessons and found the quality of instruction to be outstanding. The facilities were excellent and not overly crowded even during peak travel time mid august – allowing fairly easy court access. I would recommend the resort highly.
My husband and I always enjoy the tennis at the Mauna Lani. It is a beautiful setting on the big island of Hawaii. Pro is great with lots of tips for improving your game, no matter your level of play and the staff is always helpful in setting up matches with other players in the area.
Beautiful setting. The clinic was great. Limited to six people . The pro Andy gave me some great advice.
Nice facility really good pro/director. This is his profession not a summer job and he treats as such. Experienced a lot of resort pros and surely one of the best
Beautiful weather, very nice facilities, friendly staff. Best of all, coach Andy Klug is a truly excellent instructor. My husband and I agree that he does an amazing job of focusing on the one or two things that get you the result you are looking for. If you want to move your game forward, Andy can help you get there.
Great tennis resort on a beautiful island. I was particularly impressed with Andy, the pro, who gave me a real insight into my one handed backhand. I look forward to returning.
The facilities are good, the courts have some cracks and need redone, but the people are great. Andy Klug is the best instructor I have ever had, and I’ve had many.
Beautiful resort and surrounding. The tennis courts are in great shape. The staff is friendly and tennis pros are well trained and do a great job.
