Amelia Island has roughly the same dimensions as Manhattan Island—13 miles long by 2 miles wide—but any similarity ends there. Situated off the extreme northeast coast of Florida, this southernmost of the large Atlantic barrier islands has fewer inhabitants than a square block of the Big Apple, many of those in the tiny historic town of Fernandina Beach at the northern tip. The Omni Amelia Island Resort cuts a 1,350-acre swath across the center, from the dune-lined Atlantic to the tidal marshlands bordering the Intracoastal Waterway. Forest and shade abound, and so does bird life.
The resort has always paid more than the usual attention to its tennis. For 29 years, the 23 Har-Tru courts at its Racquet Park were home to the annual Bausch & Lomb Tennis Championships, a major stop on the women’s tour (the event has since been dropped from the calendar). Attractively and spaciously laid out among the moss-bearded live oaks, the courts (now including 7 pickleball courts) border a large pro shop and a splendid indoor fitness center—complete with a lap pool in a greenhouse-like enclosure. Wicker chairs await on the outside decks, providing a place to relax and watch the action on the nearby courts. One of these is the Stadium Court, an intimate venue framed by a few rows of terraced seats. It is available for any guest who wants to play on the same court where the pros used to compete each spring.
Otherwise, Amelia stands out for its multiple dimensions. Lodging options include the 402-room Omni Amelia Island Resort, a resort that Omni refurbished and expanded both to provide better lodging for the adjacent conference center and to give vacationers the option of full hotel services as an alternative to a condominium rental. The resort also has three golf courses within its borders. Kids can look forward to their own island, home to a well-run children’s program. There is also an excellent nature program, miles of bike lanes to supplement its free on-property shuttle, Segway tours (those one-person motorized pair of wheels), a gourmet market and a dozen or so shops in the village at the entrance and adjacent to The Spa. That attention to tennis is only one aspect of its appeal.
When Omni hotels took over the resort, they immediately sought to revitalize the tennis and to do so brought in the Cliff Drysdale Tennis group both to run the day-to-day tennis programs for adults and juniors and to stage tennis camps.
Tennis Staff & Programs: The Drysdale group installed Rob Wright as director. Originally from Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, Wright is an LTA-certified teaching pro with more than a decade of coaching experience. Since joining CDT in early 2016, Wright has held key roles at resorts across the country, including The Inn at Perry Cabin in Maryland, Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa in California, and Sand Valley in Wisconsin. Since arriving, he has increased activity, beefed up the game matching and introduced daily themed instructional clinics followed by a drills session. There are also Cardio sessions and social round robins, both of which run three times a week, as well as Quickstart programs for kids, after-school junior programs, and a summer junior day camp. As a guest you can also take advantage of the staff’s game matching services and participate in round robins. Finally, the resort runs 2- and 3-day tennis packages for individuals, couples, and families and for teams—all with the option to customize—and on selected dates runs special Ladies Only retreats and Doubles Retreats.
Courts: Racquet Park has 23 Har-Tru courts (5 with lights for evening and night play) and 7 pickleball courts laid out through a forest of live oaks. Many of the courts are thus in shade—a significant benefit during the hot, steamy summers. One of these is a sunken stadium court, which has a few tiers of seats
Off Court
Beach: This broad corridor of grass-tufted sand extends along the length of the island, though it is at its most beautiful within the resort, where it borders natural dunes that rise as high as 50 feet in places. All the construction took place behind the primary dune line, with strategically placed boardwalks over the dunes providing access to the beach and Atlantic Ocean.
Golf Courses: Omni Amelia Island Resort has 36 holes of championship golf. Coquina shell cart paths predominate (asphalt has been used only when necessary to prevent erosion), and the fairway edges have been flared to prevent runoff from entering adjacent lagoons and creeks. Only organic chemicals known not to adversely affect bird life are used and colorants are avoided entirely. There is also a 10-hole Little Sandy course, arrayed around Red Maple Lake, with holes ranging from 30-125 yards
Long Point: Tom Fazio’s scenic if tight course winds through marshes, thick oak and pine forests, and oceanfront dunes. Par: 70. Length: 4,863-6,567 yards.
Oak Marsh: The first course and still most demanding course at the Omni Amelia Island Resort, Oak Marsh was designed by Pete Dye—his signature bulkheads outline numerous greens—and is notable for its natural rough and use of existing features. Water hazards riddle 14 of these holes. Par: 72. Length: 4,983-6,607 yards.
Oak Marsh Golf Course is currently closed for renovation, expected to reopen November 1, 2024.
Spa & Fitness Center: The Spa at Omni Amelia Island, a 13,000-square-foot island of tranquility designed by noted spa architect Bob Henley, backs up to Red Maple Lake not far from the reception center. Taking its cue from Lowcountry style, this low-slung building has gray clapboard walls, lighter gray trim, and a tin roof. Inside Douglas fir pillars support rough redwood beams in a simple but handsome entrance foyer and then floors paved with slate from China lead north and south to treatment rooms, some of which open onto balconies on the lake. Treatments include massage, hydrotherapy, facials, herbal wraps and more supplemented by retreats and personal growth programs.
The fitness center, whose location in Racquet Park makes it extremely convenient for tennis players, contains a broad selection of Cardio equipment, Cybex stations, and free weights. There’s also an indoor lap pool and whirlpool in a greenhouse-like building with windows on the courts. Both men’s and women’s lockers have sauna, steam, and whirlpools. Personal trainers are available and so are classes in aerobics, Pilates, and body sculpting.
In addition to everything else Amelia has more than 7 miles of biking and nature trails, guided nature tours, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
Children's programs: The resort runs an award-winning children’s program called “Camp Amelia” for children ages 4-10 and is available to guests of the resort, The Villas of Amelia Island and Amelia Island Club member. It operates year-round. Kids are divided by age group (3-4, 5-7, and 8-10) and entertained with a variety of activities. Sessions are $95/child.
Dining: Among the 10 choices, my top two picks are the Verandah located at Racquet Park for its seafood and a southern table and country market called Marché Burette located at The Shops at Omni Amelia Island. For variety, it’s worth the drive into Fernandina Beach to dine at the Beech Street Grill, at once delicious, informal, and very reasonably priced for the high quality of the food.
Accommodations
At eight stories tall, the 402-room hotel provides convenient access for meeting groups drawn to the adjacent conference center, and also lures vacationers wanting breathtaking ocean views, easy access to room service, a mere elevator ride to a living-room like lobby lounge and two excellent restaurants, and the most central location in the resort.
Parked behind the dunes lining a 3-mile-long beach, the narrow, flowing 402-room hotel provides every guestroom with a full-width balcony and sweeping views of the Atlantic. The entrances to all the rooms are on the back side from open, covered walkways with views westward across the live oak and pine forests.
The alternative to the hotel is any of the extensive array of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom villas available through The Villas of Amelia Island in various locations around the resort including oceanfront, Racquet Park, and in wooded neighborhoods beyond. That includes a set of Tennis Villas immediately behind the courts. All the condominiums are individually owned.
Getting there
Seasons: The resort is open year-round. Though the winter months do not invite a dip in the Atlantic, the two pools at the resort are heated and the tiered pool deck also has two hot tubs. The lower rates in the winter months make them good bargains if you’re interested in golf or tennis, however.
Travel Instructions: Amelia Island is 29 miles from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), which is served by all of the major airlines.
Top notch tennis pros with very exciting clinics that are fun and imformative in an amazing resort setting. Clay courts are well maintained and sit under Spanish moss trees.

This was a great experience. The coaches were wonderful and the accommodations were beautiful, a great variety of restaurants. I really liked the blend of lots of good tennis and time for some relaxation. I highly recommend it!
KP
Fantastic tennis experience! I have attended 2 retreats on Amelia Island and leaving for my third next week. The pros are the best. Excellent instruction and the pros are a lot of fun on court. Beautiful courts that are excellently maintained. Would highly recommend a tennis vacation on Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort.

This is a top notch tennis camp experience. Lodgings were beautiful overlooking beautiful Amelia Islamd beaches. We enjoyed meeting players from all over the country and made lifetime friendships in just four days. My favorite experience was the pro exhibition where we were able to enjoy post match champagne court side while the pros showed us their stuff! Each pro offered me invaluable tips and suggestions for improving my game. I could always find a pro to work with me during free time on specific improvements to my strokes. Their energy and enthusiasm was absolutely contagious. I smiled and laughed for four straight days. I also came home a much better player. The competitive format of the camp, gave me an opportunity to be coached through a tight match and learn ways to adjust in order to win. Literally the best tennis camp ever!
JB
You couldn’t pick a better place to enjoy phenomenal tennis, beautiful resort and it’s on the beach. For the last 12 years eight of my girlfriends and myself have been traveling to different resorts to find a tennis program that fits all of our needs. Eight years ago we planned a trip at the Cliff Drysdale tennis facility at the Ritz Carlton in Key Biscayne FL. We have returned each year because the program is so outstanding and the pros are amazing. I would rate this a 10 out of 10

The Amelia Island Doubles Clinic was, by far, one of the best-run clinics I have seen and been a part of. Coordination, timing, and absolutely the best atmosphere on and off court. The Coaches are all passionate, smart, and very well-versed in the lesson plan each day of the weekend. Five stars. Ten out of ten. I’m already planning on going back.

I am the tennis coach at a high school in Bergen County, New Jersey and we (along with the golf team) have returned to Omni Amelia Island Plantation year after year for our spring break tennis trip. Te resort is AWESOME….right on the beach and just beautiful. The kids have a blast as do all the parents and coaches who chaperone this trip. But what we re really here for is the tennis instruction and the staff is just tremendous in every way. From the moment my team arrives they establish a special rapport with my players that is unique to any tennis camp or clinics. Just all positive vibes that make our players feel real comfortable within the first few minutes. From there the staff get right to business: drilling the kids in every area with a passion that I have not seen at other resorts and camps in my 25 years of coaching. Footwork, groundstrokes, volleys, serves……FUN conditioning drills and most importantly lessons in how to construct points and stay positive mentally in all situations. The staff is first rate every year. Scott makes sure we are in good hands year after year and is more than happy to adjust instruction based upon the needs of our team each year. Sal and Katie were true professionals in every way and bring an energy to the courts that can not be beat. Even all the other pros we do not work with stand out when I walk the grounds of the facility. A facility that has NO equal in terms of amount of courts and gorgeous setting!! I have been around the country to so many top resorts over the years and this is the best of the bunch for tennis by far. Nobody is “mailing it in” when it comes to the time spent instructing on the court. They want to be there, it shows in every drill they do….and my team is much better because of it. Can not say enough about the quality of the tennis instruction at this beautiful resort. Coming back next year as always!!
MS
An absolutely gorgeous resort with top notch tennis. Many good restaurants, some great. We had enough fun on the Plantation with our three hours of tennis per day, the fitness center, lots and lots of walking, and some bicycling, that we never felt it necessary to go anywhere else. We did not rent a car. This is the perfect place for working on your tennis game in a relaxed southern setting. The guest rooms are a good size, but could use some sprucing up, and more attention paid to replacing light bulbs, etc. The staff is very accommodating in all areas of this resort and the tennis pros are terrific. This was our second trip, and we are looking forward to the next time!

After years of hearing about the fabulous women’s retreats were a group of tennis ladies and I decided to give it a try. Every one of us had such an amazing experience. The Amelia tennis facility is gorgeous and the tennis instruction was top notch. The plantation is beautiful and full of activities if you had enough tennis for awhile. Imagine a week with friends, good food, beautiful weather and the most entertaining tennis instructors you can imagine. 5 star experience. A must try!

I came to Amelia Island looking for a tennis vacation with my family and the pros at the Plantation surpassed my expectations in everyway. Being able to play under the beautiful trees was so peaceful. The drills in the morning with Sal, Hannah, and Travis were fun, yet educational. I felt that just in a few days, I was able to improve the consistency of my groundstrokes in my private lessons each day and go home with a better game. My children (5 and 9 years old) went to the after school tennis program, and they were able to interact and play tennis with new children. While we were visiting on Friday, there was a “Play Day,” and it was a tennis carnival full of games, prizes, and pizza at the end. While the kids played in that, I was able to take a cardio tennis class offered for the adults. The accommodations at the main hotel overlook the ocean. The view made it very hard to leave. The resort offered plenty of activities for the family to do together by the pool and at the Nature Center. We enjoyed eating at Ocean side for lunch and Falcons Nest for dinner. I was even able to sneak away to the spa for a massage while the kids were playing tennis in the afternoons. I would highly recommend going here, and I look forward to taking my family back soon!

I tell my tennis friends all the time that this is THE tennis vacation to take by yourself or with friends. The ladies who attend the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Retreat at Amelia are a fun, welcoming group. It has become a reunion of sorts for those of us who try to schedule it in every year. The tennis professionals are top in the industry. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable about the game, they make the experience so much fun. I always walk away reenergized about my game. It also doesn’t hurt that we are in such a beautiful, peaceful setting. The resort has great food, a fantastic spa and a few great places for a fun night out! You really don’t needy I leave the property at all. I can’t wait to go back this year. (I know I am supposed to come up with a weakness, but I can’t!). By the way, the only reason I marked no opinion on junior/child programs is because I haven’t brought my daughters with me. However, I would have to believe they would run a great high performance program!
JF
Make no mistake, this was a 5-star experience for me and my girlfriends. We loved our time at the resort, and especially our time on the courts!
JB
I have been going to the Doubles Boot Camp for three years. It is a highly educational and intense camp that teaches all levels how to make better decisions and improve technique. Each year I rally all my tennis friends to attend the camp and it never disappoints. The pros there are not only highly skilled, but fun and entertaining. Looking forward to next year!
BM
The Resort at Amelia Islands is awesome! It’s a huge property that is easily navigable via your own golf cart. The grounds are beautiful, the pool and beach areas are relaxing and the food options are varied and delicious! We stayed in a private rental property that was spacious and gorgeous. The real treat at this resort, though, is the tennis program. The courts are impeccably maintained and the pros are fun and knowledgeable. We had 3 days of fast-paced instruction and left the resort feeling like our strokes and strategy had improved. I would highly recommend this resort and this tennis program to anyone and everyone from children to adults.
TM
I have been to two ladies’ tennis retreats at the Omni Amelia Island. The pros are hard working and will do whatever it takes to make you feel like you have had the best tennis experience possible. We work hard on drills in the morning and play matches in the afternoon. We get a lot of time of the court during the day, but evenings are fun because there are group dinners and even a costume night! The retreat is all about having fun and bringing home some new things use in your tennis game. I will be attending my third retreat in a few weeks.
CL
This is my second time at this Resort/Camp and I will continue to return and highly recommend it to others. Sal and Scott and the staff at the Tennis Center are phenomenal and rank well above any other tennis camp I’ve been to. The location of the resort right on the beach is wonderful and the lodging with every room having a large oceanfront view is a huge bonus. The pools, restaurants and shops on the property are great and you do not ever need to leave the campus unless you want to!
AP
This is my favorite tennis camp mainly because the coaches are super fun and knowledgable – the clinics are prepared and hard — I always come home with instruction that helps my game . Can’t beat the weather as well – It’s all good – keeps us coming back for more !!

I LOVE this place and know I will be back again and again. My first vacation here in Fall 2015 was so enjoyable that I returned a few months later to attend Doubles Boot Camp in Winter 2016. I will also be returning this Spring 2016 for the Ladies Retreat and am already dreaming about my return after that! Once you vacation here, you too will be a repeat customer. A beachfront resort with hours and hours of tennis each day? Sign me up! The Pro Shop staff and Pros work hard to make sure you enjoy your tennis vacation. The morning clinics run by Travis, Sal, and Katie were super fun, engaging, and high energy. The pros were very good at making sure everyone got something out of the clinics. I really enjoyed meeting fellow vacationers as well as local players and we were able to stay after the clinics to hit more balls and/or to play a fun match. The private lessons I took with Sal were some of the best I have ever taken. My sister took private lessons with Katie and right away Katie was able to ‘fix’ both her groundstrokes and serve! In Feb Katie ran a great Doubles Boot Camp — the instruction, level of play, and competition was consistently high each day and I would not hesitate to sign up for this camp again. Every Pro was so nice and gave great feedback. The student-Pro ratio was very low and the court assignments by skill level was spot on. After Camp ended Katie sent a summary of everything we learned and worked on that weekend — these Pros are truly among the best. Scott the Sr. Director is very funny, but more importantly, you can tell that he cares about making this tennis resort one of the best around. The tennis complex is beautiful and peaceful with the stunning live oak backdrop. Separate from the tennis, the resort itself is amazing — the food, the spa, the beach, and the shops will not leave you disappointed. The property looks like a beautiful enchanted forest and there are walking trails throughout the whole resort. And when you feel like relaxing you can take the convenient trolley for door-to-door service. Nearby downtown Fernandina Beach is a must-see when staying here. Overall, you cannot go wrong with this place and I cannot wait to return to this amazing resort.
EB
Love this tennis resort! The pros and facility are exceptional which is why I continue to come back. Fun for a girls tennis weekend, romantic getaway or fun for the whole family! Something for everyone!!
RV
It is an awesome experience! I have been 3 years in a row with a large group of women and a small group of women, several times each year. The pros are very energetic, very knowledgeable and keep it fun all at the same time. Great prices too!
JV
Sal, Daniel, Katie, And Michael were the best friends i could have teach me this sport. I loved them all and in the years that i lived there, I grew in my skill level and achieved what i never thought possible. They were the best mentors that I could have asked for and i must say that i pulled off the accent from New Zealand popular among many of the present and past coached there expertly.
MJ
Fantastic tennis pros! Went on a girls tennis trip and had the best time! The tennis drills were incredible and the enthusiasm of the tennis pros made the trip! Loved the location, the facility, the instruction and would highly recommend this resort.

Sal, Scott, and the team at the Amelia Island Plantation tennis program by. Cliff Drysdale have completely inspired my son and my whole family. Before this program Josh was unwilling to try any sports. He was discouraged by his own insecurities. Sal, Scott and their team encouraged and motivated Josh to try new things and discovered he had his own natural abilities that could be cultivated into something that would help Josh for a lifetime. We sadly just moved away and we all agreed the thing we miss the most will be the strong influence the tennis program had in our sons life. Kudos and thanks eternally to Sal and team!!
JW
What a great tennis vacation! Staff was fantastic and motivating! Will definitely return!
CM
Been on a few Tennis vacations and found Tennis Heaven in north Florida. Courts are the same everywhere so personality and instruction are key and this is the Drysdale difference. Felt like our time on court didn’t come out of a bottle and was truly personalized for our group by Scott Colebourne with time spent on each of us and the parts of our game that need assistance. There are convenient condos to rent court courtside however the resort is massive and it can be a bit of a trek by shuttle to the main hotel and some of the decent different restaurants on site. And if you choose to leave the resort however Fernandina Beach is a quaint little town with some great places to dine and is only 10 miles offsite. Give Scott’s Team at Amelia a shot, you won’t regret it. I would go back in a heartbeat!
CC
Omni Amelia was by far the best tennis resort I have been to in my entire life. All of the staff and tennis pros are excellent. They continually motive and encourage you throughout their clinics, lessons, & camps while maintaining a level of fun. After leaving your first lesson, you can’t wait to get back on the courts! Cliff Drysdale tennis staff and pros always makes you feel welcome and at home. They will make sure you have everything you need to make your experience as spectacular as possible. Please invest in the Omni Amelia Island tennis resort! It’s a choice you will never regret!
JP
I stayed at the tennis village, which was amazing. Service was great, right next to the tennis courts where I went for a long weekend for the camp and private lessons. Brilliant, friendly, enthusiastic coaches, very professional. I would recommend anyone to go to Cliff Drysdale Tennis for a camp or individual lessons. I will go back as often as I can.
DM
I spent 4 days with a friend at Cliff Drysdale Tennis Amelia Island in December 2014 and I can’t wait to return (actually just scheduled another 4 day camp on my own back there in April)! From my first correspondence with Scott Colebourne who customized 20 hours of organized tennis for us through to the last day of our stay, there really aren’t enough words to express how much I enjoyed the entire experience. Logistically, everything ran seamlessly from the pick up at the airport to check out. But what made it so special and truly unforgettable was the high quality tennis program that was organized based on our goals and the amazing staff that made it possible – it surpassed everything that I hoped it would be! Director of Tennis, Sal Barbaro, and pros Michael, Daniel and Katie took such good care of us throughout our stay. I felt incredibly lucky having their time and talent over our 20 hours of tennis (2 hours group clinic, 2 hours semi-private, 1 hour private each day). I was really impressed by the high quality, standards, professionalism, and energy that they each demonstrated. I’ve worked with a lot of tennis professionals and attended programs around the country since I first started playing tennis and I was blown away with what they each brought to the courts every day. Each group clinic was carefully coordinated, seamlessly executed with preparation, skill and purpose, and each drill logically evolved and transitioned into the next with practically zero down-time. As I looked around at the other participants, it was evident that everyone, no matter the age or skill level, was learning and having so much fun. The teaching staff have such positive energy and spirits which leaves a lasting impression on those they interact with. The semi-private and private lessons were challenging and helpful in terms of working on our biggest needs. While each pro had their own style and approach to teaching, they all communicated clearly, concisely, and with actionable suggestions that made sense and translated into tangible improvements to our games. The tennis staff at Amelia all possess such special qualities that really cannot be taught. Their genuine passion for the sport, what they do, and devotion to the people they teach is inspiring. Highly recommend this resort and tennis camp to anyone that is interested in having a tennis-filled vacation with high quality instruction and guaranteed fun on a breathtaking resort!!

Omni Amelia Island has taken the lead in my favorite places to visit for tennis. The resort is gorgeous and the tennis is outstanding. The staff helped our group plan a fantastic trip with the perfect balance of tennis and time to relax and enjoy other resort amenities.
KG
I really enjoyed the Tennis Boot Camp! This is my second year attending this terrific event. The tennis pros are very good at keeping a large group of people at different levels engaged and happy no matter what the weather conditions. The pros rotate between all of the courts to make sure that they all have an opportunity to give helpful tips and suggestions for betterment in a helpful and constructive learning atmosphere. The accommodations are tremendous! The location near a cute, artsy town is just icing!
SG
Beautiful Florida setting for the courts among tall shady trees, well kept clay courts. Nice clubhouse.

Eleven ladies from Kansas made the trek back to Amelia Island this February. I mentally lowered my expectations going in because I thought there was no way tennis camp could be matched from the previous year. Once again I was blown away by the spectacular tennis camp. The staff is incredibly organized and makes it such an easy process from the booking of the camp schedule, lodging and the bonus renting of the golf carts. Even with the one day of unfortunate weather Scott and Sal were able to accommodate our requests to change up a morning session and we were so dazzled By Sal, Michael and Daniels tennis expertise, wit,and charm that weather was no longer an issue. Having been to several tennis resorts across the country the staff at Cliff Drysdale Amelia Island puts together a camp that is absolutely superior.
SV
My wife and I have been to the Cliff Drysdale Tennis club a few times over the last year. Over Valentine’s day, we participated in the Doubles Bootcamp and we had an exciting weekend. There were a lot of couples that attended and they brought in some extra tennis pros to assist with the clinics. The pros were all friendly, had great insight, and improved our tennis game. Throughout the weekend, we had ten hours of tennis including clinics and a round-robin tournament. Sal, Daniel, and a couple other pros put on a tennis exhibition game, which was entertaining and Scott did a nice job explaining the nuances of each point and the strategy involved. Overall, we had an awesome weekend and we are looking forwards to our next trip to the Omni and the Cliff Drysdale Tennis club.

After doing a bit of research online looking for a beach and tennis vacation during Easter 2014, I stumbled across Drysdale Tennis @ Omni Amelia Island. Photos looked great, customer reviews were remarkable positive, but being a suspicious cynic, I emailed them some probing questions. The group leader there, Scott, answered all my questions right away, and he helped me build a group & private lesson program for me and my family for the week we were there. We showed up at the complex that first day, and it was a tennis fantasyland – hundreds of courts (okay maybe not hundreds, but seemed like that), all meticulously built into the Florida landscape. The coaches were all funny, interesting, and more to the point, excellent coaches. The program Scott built couldn’t have been better. I’d like to say that my game improved by leaps and bounds, but my 15 yo continues to kick my a**, so I still have work to do. Meanwhile, the beaches were perfect, and the pools at the Omni had something for everyone (yes, an adults only pool). The hotel itself at the Omni looks like it was recently built. The hotel campus is HUGE, and you can use bikes to get around, or take the shuttle that comes every few minutes. Food onsite was good, but travel 15 minutes into town and find some really good restaurants (burger joint Tasty’s was the best). I can’t say enough good things about Drysdale @ Amelia. Going back as soon as we can.

My friend and I spent 3 days at at the adult tennis camp at the Omni Amelia Island Planation Resort We are both 4.5+ players. Scott and Sal customied an intense 5-6 hours a day of instruction and drilling for us. I have been to all of the major tennis camps in the US and this is by far the best in terms of instruction and setting. Before we arrived, Scott emailed us to ask us what we would like to work on in our 3 days at tennis camp. Scott customized a program and drills so that we could work on these items. Some camps offer little or no instruction, while others offer too much instruction. I found the instruction of Scott and Sal to be a perfect combination of helping us to improve without being overrbearing in terms of instruction. After our sessions we would have some match play where we would work on the items that we focused on in the drilling sessions. Scott and Sal would always bring home each of the points that we worked on in the drilling sessions. The instruction here is by far the best out of any of the major tennis resorts that I have been too in Florida. Not only did we get instruction when we were there but received an email when we got home summarizing each of the major items that we should work on so that we can work on them at home. As far as the setting, we were put up in a 2 br tennis villa which was a short (2 minute) walk from the tennis courts. We couldn’t have had better accomodations. The setting is beautiful as is the hotel pool. We ate lunch at the Omni each day by the pool which was also amazing! This review asks for weaknesses but I honestly don’t have any weakness for the Omni. This is by far the best tennis destination in the country. Sal and Scott will customize a program tailored to whatever you want to work on and their instruction is second to none. I can’t recommend the Omni enough – a truly amazing tennis experience.
MA
a must do!!! had a fantastic time and learned so very much. instructors are exceptional.
LT
I attended my first ever ladies tennis retreat at Amelia Island this October. I had such an amazing time. A beautiful location, amazing ladies, awesome tennis, tons of fun and great tennis instruction. It doesn’t get much better than that. I would recommend a tennis weekend to Amelia to everyone.
JA
Having played at many of the resorts on this list and taken hours of instruction all over the country, I can report that the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Program at Amelia Island is hands-down the best tennis experience in the US. The instruction is professional, fun and designed to improve your game without “remaking” your strokes. The pros are incredible. Do you want enthusiastic? Check! Focused on your game? Check! Willing to adjust to what you need in particular? Check! Want more tennis? They’ll happily arrange it. Break a string? Give Sal and his staff 5 minutes and they’ve got you re-strung and ready to go. The tennis facilities are fantastic. Quick drying clay courts in excellent condition and plenty of them! Playing a match on the stadium court is a special treat. I attended the Ladies Tennis Retreat in October, 2014, billed as the “Best Week in Tennis.” Forget that! It’s the best ladies retreat, tennis or not. You feel like your attending summer camp, your freshman year in college and a luxury spa all at once. It could not have been a better experience. You will make great new friends, have more fun that you thought possible, and truly improve your tennis game. Go!
SN
Just stayed at Amelia Island Plantation and enjoyed three fabulous days playing tennis at the Cliff Drysdale resort on the facility. Our pros, Mike and Scott, were amazing. Drills were tailored to our needs to improve our game. Both Scott and Mike went out of their way to make our short time there the best it could be! Can’t wait to go back.
ER
Perfect 3 day get away filled with great tennis drills and instruction from Scott and his staff in a beautiful setting and top notch accommodations. Tennis in the AM with shopping and/or lounging by the pools and beach the rest of the day – perfect combo of “play” and rest!!! Not to mention a very reasonable and affordable package rate. I highly recommend it and definitely will be back!!!!
KW
Great coaching, very friendly & very positive. Small classes allowed for individualized instruction when needed. Usually had at least 2 coaches for the group. GREAT facility – we stayed in the tennis villas right next to the courts. For the adults we had two 1 hour sessions on a different stroke each day; I would have liked more time on court with scheduled classes. The Adult Camp also included a 1-hour private coaching session which was good. Would have liked to have a video analysis of my game to take home & study. The round-robin games conflicted with the stroke-of-the-day sessions so I wasn’t able to participate but it was the end of July & the center wasn’t that busy anyway. We did use the courts ourselves after the coaching sessions were over. I will definately return for another Adult Camp.

Did three hours a day in July for three days. Hot and humid. Be prepared. The tennis and the pros were excellent. Knowledgeable. Helpful. Friendly. Covered all of the basics. One of the hours was personal instruction. Good mix. Excellent courts and well maintained. Stayed at a tennis villa. Clean, modern comfortable and reasonably priced for a two bedroom.Highly recommend the adult camp, location and the villas

Goooo! Must Goooo! Will absolutely boost your game at all levels. Seen an improvement in my awareness and movement on the court, going for the shot with confidence and creating havoc at the net once there. Love it!!!

Amelia Island has everything to offer from great tennis to the beaches!! The canopy of trees and leisure trails make for a warm, relazing vacation. Has access to Jacksonville airport that is only 40 minutes away. The ladies tennis retreat is exceptional with ladies from all over the U.S. Lots of clinics to suit all levels of play.

Just completed a men’s tennis weekend with 20 guys (3.0 – 4.5) this past weekend. Scott and team did an great job! 2 hours of instruction daily, play afterward. With a wide range of players, we were properly placed on courts and our instruction was appropriate for the level. All levels were happy with the instruction. Sunday we were having our own internal tournament and they still took care of us. Highly recommend!!!

Group of guys on a tennis vacation – it was fabulous. Scott and Sal were great instructors – very knowledgable, great drills that were also a lot of fun, insightful pointers on strokes and strategy, and worked us hard like we asked. The setting was gorgeous, the property and service are first rate, our condo was VERY comfy. Can’t think of anything I didn’t like!

Four of us 4.0-4.5 guys came to camp for three days just a few weeks ago and had a great experience. Both Scot and Sal were excellent teachers and also made it fun too. It was the right balance of being pushed physically with insightful tennis instruction. Strokes as well as strategy. In addition the tennis facilities are top notch and the resort was beautiful. Lots to do and see off the courts. I would highly recommend this camp and we all will return with our wives soon.

Absolutely Perfect!

MOST UNFORGETTABLE girls tennis trip to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation this year! In the last 2 years I have visited 3 of the top 10 tennis resorts (JW Marriott Desert Springs, The Boulders Waldorf Astoria and La Quinta direct by Tom Gorman former Davis Cup Captain) and The Cliff Drysdale tennis program at Amelia excelled ALL others. The staff (Scott, Palova, Michael, Steve and Sal) held a genuine passion for tennis and their guest players. Stellar service which included several hours of instructional clinic followed by organized play with a pro. Everyday included a different competitive format beneath impressively shaded live oaks and beautifully maintained clay courts. Don’t waist your time with all those other top rated resorts when your guaranteed a FABULOUS trip at Omni Amelia Island Plantation.

Make no mistake, this was a 5-star experience for me and my girlfriends. We loved our time at the resort, and especially our time on the courts!
Love this tennis resort! The pros and facility are exceptional which is why I continue to come back. Fun for a girls tennis weekend, romantic getaway or fun for the whole family! Something for everyone!!
It is an awesome experience! I have been 3 years in a row with a large group of women and a small group of women, several times each year. The pros are very energetic, very knowledgeable and keep it fun all at the same time. Great prices too!
What a great tennis vacation! Staff was fantastic and motivating! Will definitely return!
I can’t recommend the Omni enough – a truly amazing tennis experience.
a must do!!! had a fantastic time and learned so very much. instructors are exceptional.
Go!

Group of guys on a tennis vacation – it was fabulous. Scott and Sal were great instructors – very knowledgable, great drills that were also a lot of fun, insightful pointers on strokes and strategy, and worked us hard like we asked.
Everyday included a different competitive format beneath impressively shaded live oaks and beautifully maintained clay courts. Don’t waist your time with all those other top rated resorts when your guaranteed a FABULOUS trip at Omni Amelia Island Plantation.
Beyond expectations! Forget experiencing other resorts- we will go back to Omni Amelia’s Tennis for every tennis girls trip from here on out!
