We learned so much that will help to improve our game but we also had a really really fun time!!!. Kyle was both enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We worked hard but it never felt like work. We focused on different skills in every clinic but kyle would also stop, point out, and help us with the needed areas that we had worked on in prior clinics as well. We mostly worked with Kyle but honestly all the pros were fantastic! We will definitely return. This is the place to go for a rewarding and energetic tennis get away!!

Our team had an amazing weekend with Rob and Sal. Their energy and pace was exactly what we needed. They were both very professional and obviously knowledgeable, but also a lot of fun! We laughed a lot and had a great time. And the setting is stunning….playing tennis under those gorgeous oaks was really special. We are already looking at dates to come back! Shoutout to Katie Steck for all her help in coordinating.

  • HW

Rob & Sal provided excellent instruction to my tennis team. We learned more in 3 days than we have in 2-3 years of playing. They were very accommodating with our delayed flight and poor weather and we were able to get our clinic time in. All the drills were informative and loads of fun. Highly recommend Rob & Sal!

  • TB

Rob Wright provided an exceptional lesson concentrating, per my request, on cross court sustained warm up, volleys, V formation net play, and proper racket positions. A wonderful high energy workout for this 70 year old female C2 Womens doubles competitor. Rob was engaging and personable making this hour a pleasure to be on court.

Loved my girls weekend here, it was a perfect combination of relaxing & fun! Sal was our instructor & he was a blast. We learned new techniques , drills & ideas which has added dimension to our game . I can’t wait to go back! They were vigilant with regard to social distancing & Covid preventative measures all around. I personally loved playing under the oaks, what a great atmosphere.

  • SM

My tennis comrades and I needed a camp getaway to step up our tennis games. Sal Barbaro was just what we needed. His high energy and knowledge of the game kept us going during each of the three hour clinics. He taught at our level and challenged us to try intricate drills and new strategies . He practiced social distancing and was diligent in his sanitizing of the areas we used. The girls and I would definitely return for further instruction and of course to relax on the beach afterwards.

  • BA

The coaching staff was great – lots of fun but engaged and sincere in their interest to improve our games at the same time.

  • MB

All the tennis pros were excellent teachers, passionate about tennis and genuinely cared about the program and all the players – the tennis facilities are excellent and the support staff were also very friendly and helpful – our children and we all had a great tennis experience! The resort is beautiful and there are lots of other activities to enjoy. The Sunrise breakfasts and the Verandah dinners in particular were fantastic We visited resort in 2020 but not an option below so chose 2019 as closest in time.

Facility in great shape. Instructors ( especially.. Robert, Andrew, Louis, Sal) were excellent, personable & attentive to my wife 3.0 and my 4.0-4.5 individual needs/desires. They were able to effectively separate us (given play level differences) for clinics, but accommodated us together for a series of shared private lessons. We will definitely be back!!!

The Cliff Drysdale tennis program at Omni Amelia Island Plantation is exceptional. I own a vacation home near the resort and play there as often as possible when visiting. The HarTru courts are perfectly maintained and the staff greet me like family. Lessons with Sal, Rob, Luis and Andrew always strengthen and improve my game. With their help I have learned to hit a much better forehand.

  • AL

Sal and Rob were our tennis instructors and they made our experience exceptional. Not only were they fun to be with but they gave so many fantastic drills. It was so refreshing to be with instructors who are truly passionate about their jobs. Thank you for such a wonderful 3 day custom camp. I thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Just spent 5 days at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort primarily to improve my tennis at the Cliff Drysdale Tennis Camp and get in some quality beach time. Both of these requirements were met well beyond my expectations. Strengths: * The best tennis coaching I’ve experienced yet – the team (Sal, Rob, Luis, Don and Andrew) are high energy, enthusiastic, patient and adapt well to any player, not to mention they all provide invaluable instruction to improve your game * Loved the tennis clinics – the team does a great job of mixing hotel guests with locals who live in the vicinity and they also offer fun social events for those interested * The beach and other facilities (including accommodation, restaurants, spa, other activities) at the Omni resort were all top notch Weaknesses: None! I hope to return soon!

I absolutely love the tennis programs at the Cliff Drysdale center. Our tennis pros, Sal and Rob, are exceptional. They bring not only the expertise but also the energy, making for an instructional and enjoyable experience. I recommend this tennis program to anyone looking to up their game and have fun while doing so.

I have been to several adult tennis camps/clinics throughout America. I have now been here 3 times for 2 weeks at a time as it is by far my favorite. The setting, instruction and energy here is unbeatable as far as I am concerned. Rob Wright runs the best all around camp as far as I am concerned. Sal, Louise and Thomas are all top notch instructors. You really not need to look any further as Omni tennis is great for all level of players.

  • TB

I’ve been to the Doubles Boot Camp twice now and have absolutely loved it! I’ve gotten more instruction, feedback, and balls hit during my private and group sessions at this Cliff Drysdale tennis center than any other I have ever had. Every time I leave I feel like my brain is totally full from all kinds of information poured into it over the previous days. I feel more confident in my shots and at the net and have learned a lot of new strategies as well as being corrected on bad habits. I highly recommend this camp for anyone who wants to step up their game, no matter their level!

  • TG

A group of us (five adults) signed up for both group clinics and private lessons this past December. We first came to this resort four years ago and have been back each year since. Each time we ask for Sal and Rob because we know that we will be introduced to new clinic routines. They always make it fun even as we learn skill building techniques. Sal is especially knowledgable about the finer points of the game and ways to advance one’s level of play. Also useful is his instruction in doubles strategies, net play, and the drills that will enhance these skills. That is what keeps us coming back. In short, Sal and his entire staff are terrific.

  • CG

I’ve been to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation several times with my family, and on tennis retreats with my tennis team. The resort has so many amenities, restaurants and recreational activities for everyone. I especially love the tennis programs. I’ve taken private lessons, participated in daily clinics and have also created customized retreats for my team. The staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. All of the pros are fun, dynamic and patient.

We visited Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort from New York for our winter vacation. The tennis facilities are very well-maintained and the locker rooms were clean. We had Sal and Andrew as our tennis instructors, and they were the most excellent trainers we’ve ever had. They were professional and patient, spending great efforts in helping us correct our mistakes and improve every aspect of our plays. The resort itself is also luxurious and all-inclusive, with very tasty dining options and one of the best spas we’ve ever had.

  • ZZ

I visited Amelia Island during Christmas 2019, and had tennis lessons everyday. The tennis facilities are top-notch, with well-maintained courts, fully stacked pro shop, a heated indoor lap pool and a huge fitness center. More importantly, the instructors are the most excellent instructors I ever had. Sal and Andrew, our trainers, were professional and meticulous in help us build our forms and perfect our strikes. We’d definitely come back for the next vacation.

  • JC

I recently stayed at Omni Amelia Island and the tennis experience surpassed my high expectation. The staff of Tennis Pros were extremely knowledgeable and friendl. They did not try to change my game instead they leveraged my strengths and gave me some valuable tips. When I returned home I noticed an immediate improvement in the aspects of my game they worked on. The staff in the pro shop was very accommodating and offered a number of options so I could maximize my tennis time. The courts are well maintained, all 23 of them! Overall great experience and great facility! I am looking forward to returning.

  • EP

The tennis staff at Amelia Island is incredible. I have never had a hard time getting a lesson, unlike some other locations where I have played. I have participated in clinics, private lessons, and tennis tournaments. In each of these settings, the staff has gone above and beyond to make sure that my experience was excellent. If you are in this area, I would highly recommend playing tennis here.

  • SP

Sal and his team are professionals in every sense of the word. The facilities surroundings are excellent, but the people are what sets tennis at the Amelia Island Omni Plantation above the bar. I am already planning to be back with friends.

  • DT

For the 3rd year in a row, our 4.5 level group of 8-10 men age 45-63 flew in for a customized 3-day destination camp with Tennis Director Sal Barbaro and his team. Two years ago, this was the best tennis camp I’d ever been to, and it has gotten even better the last two years as Sal worked with us to further customize the clinics to our group. The secret sauce? Sal and his staff love what they do and provide excellent, high energy, understandable, and fun tennis instruction in one of the prettiest natural settings I’ve ever played, at a resort with other great activities and dining on and off the resort. The service, tennis courts, gym facilities, and condo lodging (with a grocery store nearby to make many of our own meals) were top notch. Given there are so many tennis destinations around the US, each year our group has debated going somewhere else, but we all end up agreeing we’ve found a near-perfect package and place. D.T.

My wife and I went to Amelia Island for a birthday/tennis getaway weekend 6 years ago and we were hooked! After much research we chose the Omni/Drysdale program based on reviews, breadth of program and number of courts available for play. It surpassed our expectations. We have returned to play there at least twice a year every year since. The pros are amazing. They manage to tailor every clinic to all ability levels and ages. They are always “can do” – making last minute accommodations for extra players or players who need more individualized attention – and always with a smile. Sal and his team (Rob, Luis, Nickie, Andrew) are always encouraging and positive. And a special shout out to Frieda and Jane at the check-in desk! The pro shop is excellent as well. And finally, we have met some of the nicest people on the courts – Players who have become friends. An absolutely wonderful atmosphere for tennis players of all ages and abilities!

  • JL

This year will be our FOURTH women’s tennis trip. We LOVE Sal’s camp for he makes the clinics fun and challenging. Garrett was his helper and he was terrific as well. The resort is a perfect vacation spot and we look forward to our yearly tradition for many more years.

  • WM

The tennis set-up is really nice. Excellent har-tru courts and nice setting with many trees around the courts. Most important is that the head pro, Sal Barbaro, was superb. It’s now the third year we have come down with a small group for three days of drills and lessons with Sal and an assistant pro. Sal is among the best pros I have come across in 50 years playing tennis. He of course hits the ball beautifully and understands every nuance of the game. But the important thing is how he communicates it, with precision and just the right amount of push and give. He played in with us often and raised our level, did individual video and commentary on our game, pulled us aside if he saw a problem with a stroke, and always brought in examples from the pro game to highlight his points. He is a great guy who does not get by on that. He is an intense teacher who know just how to instruct, push, drill and joke around. Sal is a big part of why we make this annual journey from up north.

  • AC

The Cliff Drysdale program at Amelia is the reason we ended up purchasing a condo there. The pros are exceptional and the facility is perfect. Highly recommend!

I had the pleasure to attend Amelia Island’s Women’s tennis retreat in October 2019. I really didn’t have any expectations but what I experienced was definitely some of the best instruction on a court to date in my life. I’ve been playing tennis since I was a kid, although I should be much better at this point, the Amelia Island retreat in those 3.5 days improved my game substantially! Sal and his team were just a constant infusion of energy, laser focus skills and drills and most of all the ability to make each of us feel special within our game. The attention to detail within the clinics, the format of the on court play, and the level of enthusiasm to keep all of us on our toes and focused was unprecedented. Sal, Rob, Mitch and the other pros worked tirelessly for those days to keep us all learning and growing and working hard while having a blast! I also was impressed with how the pros intermingled with all us to get to know us a little better and to bring that measure of social connection into the retreat – this is something that is not easy to navigate, but yet the level of professionalism mixed with perfect friendliness and the integrity there is really only found with pros that have been working together for years and can exude that special feeling for all is to drink in. The humor, the smiles, the easy feeling and the “don’t give up” attitude cannot be replicated with just any group of pros. Cliff Drysdale has put a special team in place at Amelia with Sal and his team and I will continue to recommend to all my fellow women tennis gurus that this place and this team is one to experience in their lives. Bravo!

  • SM

Rob and Sal were exceptional instructors! Challenging clinics ,very professional and they made it fun for all of us gals! Second time here and looking forward to our return next year! Thank you Rob and Sal! S.M, Orchard Park, NY

  • MK

We visited for 5 days in October 2019. Rob and Sal took great care of us. They worked hard to make sure our time was pleasant and challenging. I am certain my game improved as a result of this adult tennis camp. The strength of the place is the focus on tennis, accommodation on the beach, great location, excellent tennis facilities, friendly and skilled staff. Weakness …. hard to think of any.

  • AD

I’ve been coming to Amelia Island for many years and the tennis facilities, and instructors are second to none!!! Highly recommend! A+++

  • EH

i had an amazing tennis experience at cliff drysdale tennis at amelia island…sal and rob were excellent tennis instructors…kept it instructional/challenging and fun for our group of ladies!! thanks rob and sal….looking forward to seeing you again this february for our ladies tennis trip!!

  • SO

For each of the past three autumns, our group of eight 45 to 63 year old men, all 4.5’s, have returned to Amelia Island to do a 3-day custom-tailored clinic designed and led by Tennis Director Sal “Ironman” Bárbaro. Sal’s energy, enthusiasm and insight are unparalleled. Each year we come away with new strategies and tips to think about and work on. Best of all, Sal and his staff keep it fun and fast, so there’s never a dull or wasted moment. We’ll be back again!

  • JM

This is simply a beautiful location and setting for tennis and hanging at the beach and pool. The tennis instruction by Sal and his team was exceptional. Was with a group of 4.0 players. Sal worked with us for three days and provided a wonderful array of drills that covered all aspects of the game. He filmed each of us separately and offered specific instruction and comments on our stroke mechanics. This was our third year and it is hard to imagine a combination of setting and level of instruction that can beat the camp at Amelia Island. Not to mention a great tapas restaurant called Espana a few miles away in Fernandina Beach!

  • GM

My wife and I are members of two private clubs where the emphasis is more on golf than tennis; doubles more than singles play. That said, we did a search of academies that would customize doubles match play and found few; the emphasis seemed to be on clinic / drill play. Not satisfied and wanting to prepare for two upcoming tournaments, Sal Barbaro (Director) and Rob Wright (amazing no.2) customized a four-day doubles strategy package that resulted in our both “going deep into the draw of tournament no. 1” and excited about our return visit with friends in December for further training for our nest tournament. These two pros are the “real deal;” smart; accomplished; professional; and fun to be around. Would give them 5 stars or tennis balls for their craft and what they do for the Cliff Drysdale Academy. Be careful that you don’t lose them.

  • KS

Sal and Rob are the reason I bring my tennis girls back to Amelia every year – they are the Best! We have been to other camp/resorts and nothing can compare!

  • SR

I spent three weeks on Amelia Island with Sal and his team in January, and it was the best tennis vacation ever. I spent many hours playing and taking lessons with them everyday. I had a superb experience during lessons and also throughout the vacation. Sal is an amazing instructor who made my experience what it was. He was very knowledgeable and engaging, and tailored the lessons to what I needed most. Overall a fantastic experience in tennis paradise. The staff are all great teachers and a blast to play with and learn from. I couldn’t recommend the program more highly to anyone seeking a tennis vacation or retreat.

  • LD

The pros staff were great! Knowledgeable, engaging, attentive to tailoring our lessons. The drills were exceptionally useful and varied, often jazzed by some competition-including “Beat the Pro.” Best tennis experience my wife and I have had. Setting is gorgeous and we encourage fellow tennis players to leave the resort and explore Fernandina Beach historical district. Easy, compact walking fun, great restaurants, friendly people. I highly suspect that we are going to make this an annual event-including trying to persuade some of our Baltimore tennis friends to join us.

  • KV

This is a paradise to play tennis at. The facilities are amazing here with everything that they have to offer. Sal Barbaro, tennis director has changed this place around and has done amazing things here. I highly recommend that if you want your child to start playing tennis, they should start with Coach Barbaro. You will not regret your decision to come here.

  • VV

Love our 3 days with Sal and Rob. They made us work every day while we had fun. Every day was different, so it never felt boring. I even took a private class, and learned so much from Rob. I would def. go back to them!

  • AM

It was our second visit to The Amelia Island Plantation Resort. The entire experience was Fantastic. The accommodations, food and serene beauty of Amelia Island are unmatched. Our time at the Tennis facility was the highlight of our stay. Thanks to the lessons, encouragement and fun provided by Sal Barbaro and his team of tennis pros. We’re looking forward to our next trip to their amazing tennis facility.

the best tennis camp the best instructors the best venue ever!!!

I have been to Cliff Drysdale twice this year. I attended clinics and had private lessons with Sal, Han and Luis and had a great time and also improved my all around game. I was also able to play with the USTA 4.0-4.5 group during both of my stays which greatly enhanced my visit. I enjoyed it so much I will return in the end of July again to get more training and lessons as I am competing in the over 55 division in tournaments here in eastern Canada. I am already looking forward to my next visit at this topnotch facility.

  • MM

This was my second time at the Amelia adult clinic. I have been to several (saddlebrook, Newcombe tennis ranch, Feed Andersons…). I came back to Amelia and it will be the only one I attend goingforward. I spent the majority of my time working with Robert Wright. He was by far the best coach that helped improved my game. Everything about Amelia is great= restaraunts, setting…. I highly recommend this camp.

  • KM

I’ve been playing tennis and loving this sport for over 30 years and visited numerous tennis camps and tennis venues throughout the United States from Palm Springs, California to San Antonio, Texas to Florida and New York. My all time favorite Tennis Retreat is Cliff Drysdale’s Amelia Island Tennis at the Omni Plantation Resort. Over the past 4 years I coordinated an awesome Gals Tennis Getaway at Amelia Island and it’s evolved into the best tennis retreat ever. Last year, with 15 women, the experience was epic… the Pros worked their magic and designed a fabulous 3 days of Drills, Round Robin fun competitiion and a super, thought provoking workout. The Villas were beautiful and perfect for 3 women with 3 private baths and 3 bedrooms. The beach, pools, Spa, restaurants on premises and shopping was extraordinary. No other Tennis venue compares to the tailored Instruction, comfy Accommodations and soothing atmosphere offered at this gem of a resort. My players travel from NJ, Pennsylvania, Georgia and West Virginia to join me each year. We look forward to another amazing, active and super fun 4 nights this October 2019. Thanks to our Pros Sal, Han, Yana and Mike for bringing out the best in all of us???? The Tennis Shop could possibly offer a more extensive variety of clothes and racquets. The resort is huge and relying on the shuttles to get around is a bit unnerving but it’s worth the wait. We absolutely love this venue?? I have a great group photo if you want it sent. Thank you, Karen M. East Windsor, NJ

The tennis program at Amelia remains the best I’ve experienced. For four consecutive years, I’ve participated in the Ladies Retreats and, on each visit, I’ve improved my doubles game and gained confidence on the court, all while having a blast. It left such an impression that when I had a chance to come to the Jacksonville area on business a few months ago, I knew that I just HAD to visit Sal and his team at Amelia. I participated in the morning clinics with Han and John and then enjoyed a private lesson with Sal. In one lesson, Sal taught me the slice. I never knew how easy it was; or at least the way Sal so clearly instructed me made it come so easily! The pros at Amelia have an uncanny ability to work with your existing skills and make meaningful improvements. It was again such a wonderful experience that upon my arrival back home, I booked another Ladies Retreat and am introducing a friend to the amazing instruction that Amelia offers. Can’t wait!!!

  • TF

Usually I attend a tennis “Camp” with 5-6 hours a day of tennis instruction, followed by a set or two of play afterwards. However, this time my (non-tennis playing) wife wanted to come, and even bring the dogs. So, I wanted to tone it down a bit and looked for a “Resort”. The Omni at Amelia Island was just the thing. I new the directer, Sal, from his days at the John Newcombe Tennis Ranch, so I knew he would run a top notch program. It consisted of 2 hours of group drills and 1 hour of private instruction each day. The days I was there, the 2 hour group clinics focused on Doubles. There were 8-12 players spaced out over 2-3 courts. They did a good job of breaking out players by skill level, and the drills focused on movement and Doubles strategy. I was lucky enough to be on a court with a recent Division 1 gal and her boyfriend – both excellent players! During my 1 hour privates with Sal I focused on Singles strategy and he spent a fair amount of time shoring up my backhand. Although this wasn’t the “quantity” of tennis I usually go for, the “QUALITY” was top notch and worked out really will for a ‘family’ vacation. All the pro’s I worked with were great. They had excellent knowledge and a fun way of imparting it. Additional notes: The Omni does except pets, but only in a few rooms which were already booked. And, it turns out, our dogs were over the weight limit anyway. I used VRBO to find a place in Fernandina Beach a few miles away, and that worked out great. We were right across the street from a dog-friendly beach, and everyone had a great time. My tennis lasted all morning and we had the afternoon and evening to explore the shops and restaurants of Fernandina Beach. All of us had a great time on the vacation, and the Omni had no problem with us staying off-site and attending the tennis program. Just sign up ahead of time so they know what you’re doing. Tell them you’re interested in the “Pay As You Go Adult Tennis Camp”.

I have been to Amelia Island Resort at least once a year for the last 4 years. This is one of the great places to go for tennis. The clay courts are amazing and always kept in top shape. Every pro is knowledgeable and fun, a truly great staff, but Sal is the glue who keeps it together. I have done many lessons and clinics with Sal and I always come away with something valuable. I’m preparing to play some national tournaments this summer and will spend 5 days working on my game at Amelia. Can’t wait!!!

  • JR

Great facility — courts, rooms, restaurants, hotel, etc. Beautiful setting. Strengths – Pros do a great job of working with you to adjust for your level. I’m a 4.5 and the clinics weren’t super strong my week, so the pros substituted an hour private for the clinic. – Every pro I had a lesson with was helpful, this included Sal, Rob, and Luis. I’d suggest working with different people to get different perspectives. Each left me with a tangible aspect of my game that I’m improving. – I was particularly impressed by pro’s ability to diagnoses strokes and focus on just a few things to improve. – I had my 14 yr old daughter in the tennis program as well. They did a great job working out a schedule for her. Weaknesses – Not a great option if you are strong and you want a social group (like a Saddlebrook). My guess is that this is better in some weeks, esp. if it’s really full. – Schedule ends up being scattered throughout the day, esp, if you want to play a lot of hours. – Ball machine didn’t work the whole time we were there. That was a disappointment. Overall, a great place, and I’d consider coming back.
