Portofino Island Resort in Pensacola Beach is the most westerly of a necklace of tennis resorts strung along the sugary sand of the Florida Panhandle. Its five towers rise from a narrow 28-acre strip of land between the Gulf of Mexico on the south and Santa Rosa Sound on the north, while to the west lies the long stretch of uninhabited dunes and beach of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Every one of its 300+ fully-equipped two- and three-bedroom rental condos has a private terrace looking out on either the Gulf or the Sound as well as ready access to several restaurants, a spa and fitness center, swimming pools, watersports, summer kids programs, and, most importantly, five Hydro-Grid tennis courts under the direction of Arthur Anastopoulo.
A USPTA-certified pro, Anastopoulo was an NCAA All American at the University of South Carolina, where he played No. 1 singles and doubles, and later as a pro competed on the Greek Davis Cup team. He has runs an active program consisting of clinics, round robins, and game-matching services supplemented by summer junior camps as well as seasonal camps on selected dates for both adults and juniors.
