I thought the Hopman program was excellent. David, Jitka and Vlad were fantastic instructors. I had another instructor with whom I didn’t really jive. I asked to be switched and was assigned to a different group at the next opportunity. My only regret was not asking sooner. I definitely picked up some improvements in my game (as soon as I stop thinking about them while I’m hitting, I may actually get them in to practice). I will definitely go back at some point.
I was there for five days and it is definitely physically challenging. I’m pretty fit (play regularly, can run a 10k, play singles for a couple hours) but I was whipped when all was said and done.
The resort itself was not as impressive. From the outset, I felt like I wasn’t being given the whole story. The website showed the least expensive rooms as being available. When I called to book (later that day), I was told the only thing available was the next step up (for another $25/night). During another conversation, the helpful agent suggest I request the cheaper room upon arrival. When I did, I discovered they actually had me in a suite (two or three clicks more expensive). I was able to get the least expensive room (I needed a bed, a shower and a tennis court). The next day, I realized the place was nowhere near full. Why all the rigamarole??
Basic internet is free. It is a whopping 384 kbit service. Useless for anything but email and rudimentary browsing. $6.00 a day gets you 6 mbit, but with a DATA CAP (I’m sure it was in the fine print)! I got three quarters through “Into the Wild” before I hit the cap.
The shuttle is advertised as being $40 each way. You are advised to call 24 hours in advance. I did not and was billed $85 for the one way trip. Despite not being told the cost would be more. And despite telling the limo driver I was fine if he went back for the late pickup the dispatcher called about as we were exiting the airport. Also, you have to call a separate number to make all the shuttle arrangements, even though they have an office right across from the front desk. Why is this?
The food at the restaurants is above average but not great. Figure on spending $50 per person on dinner. This was for fish and a side of vegetables, without ANY cocktails. I live in a major city and find this pretty steep.
Protip – ask to swap your lunch vouchers for breakfast and bring your own food for lunch. There are refrigerators in the rooms.

Great tennis, accommodating staff that see the adjustments necessary to improve your game. I’ve gone every year for the last five and do plan to continue coming every spring to get ready for the summer season. There are several restaurants with small but wonderful choices. We don’t leave the resort once we arrive.

Great resort, good accommodation, lots of courts. Friendly welcome and well organised programme. Very focussed on game improvement rather than social play.

My husband and I enjoyed four challenging full days of tennis in the Saddlebrook Tennis Camp. Michael was my outstanding primary instructor for three of the four days, including two afternoons where I was his only pupil, so had a “private” lesson. He encouraged me to stretch my range and improve all strokes in a patient, gentle yet professional manner. His knowledge of tennis and ability to see my weaknesses and to correct faults was impressive and most helpful.
On Michael’s day off, Larry was my coach and his extensive experience as a tennis teacher enabled him to literally deconstruct and reconstruct my forehand in a way that enabled me to hit (at least some of the time:-) a stroke with power and control. Both he and Michael had great tips, so many I had to write them down. You would be delighted with either instructor, both of whom I highly recommend.
The rest of the resort matched the high quality tennis lessons and I can’t wait to return!

This place is the greatest. What a perfect setting (the grounds are beautiful) and there is PLENTY of tennis available for every skill level and age. We have made Saddlebrook a destination for several of our vacations and have never been disappointed. Our 14 year old son plays tournaments and has been taking the group lessons with other kids his age and skill level and has also taken private lessons to really improve different aspects of his game.
There are many exceptional pros teaching here and I want to thank Mark Trail in particular for his outstanding work with our son. He has such patience and positive attitude that it is the perfect chemistry for our particular child. Everyone here goes out of their way to please every guest. Nothing but the Best!!!

Great drills and mechanics analysis every day. Great coaches identified and encouraged helpful changes. The spa, rooms and restaurants were very nice.

Just got back from my second stay at Saddlebrook where I enrolled in the Harry Hopman program and had to write about it. Spent 4 days there and I can’t think of a better place for a serious tennis player to stay who wants to improve his tennis game while fleeing the cold and damp of winter up north. The instructors were all excellent and the attention they pay to you is far better than anything I’ve ever experienced. There are no more than 4 students to a pro, although I was there at a slow time (end of January) and sometimes had 3 to a court and one afternoon, it was just me! And the price is right – $195 a day for 5 hours of lessons.
The Hopman Program has incredible pedigree. It was founded by tennis legend Harry Hopman in a town nearby and when he passed on, it moved to Saddlebrook where it has been for the past 26 years. Howard, who runs the program, has been there from the beginning and is always incredibly warm and welcoming.
After 4 days, I was completely spent but very happily so. And when you are not playing tennis, the pool and the accommodations are first rate. Jet Blue is incredibly reasonable to Tampa from NYC and I then rented a car to drive the 40 minutes north to the resort.
A couple of things – there are a couple of decent restaurants on the property but they get old after a few days. If you care about eating out, rent a car and go to some of the local restaurants. Also, ask for a condo with a kitchen. That way, you can buy breakfast food and have it in your condo instead of paying for it at the restaurant. But if you sign up for Hopman, they do give you a food voucher that is good for either a breakfast or lunch.
For a serious tennis player Saddlebrook is paradise. When you are not playing yourself, you can go to where the pros drill (I saw Azarenka training there on my first trip and Isner and many other stars regularly use the facilities.) What is also amazing is to watch the kids going to the Saddlebrook Academy. It goes through high school and has kids from around the world that have the money and the skill to learn tennis at the highest level. 95% of them go on to play college tennis. It is really inspiring to see a lanky 12 year old girl hit a tennis ball harder and more accurately than I can or probably ever will – and to understand the kind of dedication and skill it takes to compete at the highest level.
I hope to go every year.

Visited Saddlebrook/Hopman for a week in February by myself. I wanted a dedicated tennis program that was more serious than normal resort tennis. I also wanted to make sure that a lot of time was spent on the court hitting balls. I can’t say enough exceptional things about Saddlebrook tennis. The instruction was top-notch. It’s constant ball hitting with immediate feedback and correction. The ratio was never more than 4:1 and most times it was less. They group according to ability which is so very important. The camp seems to be well set up for all levels.
I didn’t want to be coddled with the instruction and I wasn’t. It really has taught me how to self-correct as well as proper technique for every type of shot. After each day I headed to the spa for a sports massage. Heaven. I thought I might be a little intimidated as my game is a completely social game (no Wimbledon visits) but I wasn’t. I loved the whole experience and will definitely go back. Probably have to take my husband next time as the golf courses looked amazing, too.

This was my first visit to Saddlebrook but it definitely will not be my last. Steve’s instruction was phenomenal, taking my skill level several notches up in just 4 days. Everything about Saddlebrook was first-rate: the beautiful grounds, the wildlife, the pool and hot tub, the sports massage, the accommodations, the food. It was also the most perfectly romantic getaway combining intense, fun training with luxurious downtime. I will remember this trip FOREVER 🙂

Four of us went together to Saddlebrook Tennis Resort located in Tampa, FL. Never having been to a “tennis resort” that has a tennis camp, I was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! One in our group has been to Saddlebrook numerous times and he was the reason we chose Saddlebrook. He had raved about the camp, the instructors, and said the resort was very nice. His assessment was 100% accurate! The resort is very nice. It is a bit older and could use a bit of a makeover in some areas but on a scale of 1-10 I would give the resort a 7.
The Hopman Tennis camp located at Saddlebrook was excellent. You spend three hours in the morning under instruction with a personally selected pro with other players who have also been placed in your group according to skill level. Lunch is provided at the resort where you dine at one of the restaurants on site. Our favorite was the poolside bar which offered a delicious fruit plate and great hamburgers.
Players can return for the 2 hour afternoon session where all the instruction is put into actual point play. I came away from Saddlebrook with more finesse as a player and some new skills. The instructors were top notch. My friend and I had Neal as our pro and he was awesome!
I would say the one area that the resort is lacking is the Pro Shop. On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 3. Every single woman we met at the tennis camp said the same thing. The Pro Shop is missing out on a lot of money being spent while people are attending the camp. Very little to choose from. The Pro Shop was a huge disappointment. I had planned on coming home with a couple new tennis outfits!
The Pro Shop won’t keep us from coming back though. We are already making plans to return to Saddlebrook next year and all our friends at home want to go now. We just might make take an entourage the next time we visit sunny Tampa and Saddlebrook Resort.

  • EL

Saddlebrook is first class all around. The quality of the tennis instruction is outstanding! The pros make it fun (Larry is the MAN!) while they work on your game and every level of play is welcomed!
In addition to great tennis, the accommodations were wonderful and the food was delicious. I have to leave tomorrow and can’t wait to plan my return.

I have been to SB Tennis many times for 3 and 5 day sessions. As a 3.5-4.0 male player I have always had an ample number of players to work with on court and great instruction including video analysis. The staff will always strive to offer a customized tennis experience for each participant regardless of level, age, and fitness level. The SB program is the choice for hard core tennis enthusiasts who are playing a lot of tennis at home and can handle the fitness required for 5 hours of daily tennis.

  • NS

Great tennis if you want a workout, they will provide one for you. High quallity professional teaching.

  • JM

A two hour flight to Tampa does not stop me from frequenting this tennis camp. I just recently did a 2 and a 1/2 day adult camp and loved it! Howard runs an energizing program and passes this enthusiasm on to his staff. He was there throughout and was directly involed in making sure your happy. Shawn, Jitka, Oleg, and the others teach with energy and tone throughout the day. Let them know up front what you want to get out of your camp and they will not disappoint!I am a 4.5 male tournament player.

  • TS

I enjoyed the facilities quite a bit. The tennis instruction was excellent and it was all quite reasonble from a cost perspective. The only change I would make would be to start at 9 rather than 8, especially during the non summer months when it’s not so hot. That gives more time to grab lunch.

  • J&

What a terrific experience. We started as beginners and left feeling so much more confident in our game. Howard always ensures a great time. Ask for Tai Lam as an instructor. He has a unique way of demonstrating, breaking down and teaching the fundamentals. Thank you!

  • GC

I have just returned from this resort after a one week stay. The tennis instruction was superb and even though I’ve been playing a long time, I picked up many great tips. I opted for the 3 hours morning session so I could spend time on the golf range and use the pool. The 3 hours was a good workout! I also took advantage of their golf academy and it was phenomenal! The surroundings, the food and the service was excellent. Thank you, Steve! Gulnar Carlisle, Vancouver, BC

I have spent 7 days here and it has truly been an enlightening experience. It was a great opportunity to get a critical review of my game and get insights on how to improve it. The coaches were great. I actually had an opportunity to play with several of them and each had a if different way of putting a diagnostic on my game. Different ways of looking at the same issues was very helpful to me. So thanks to Mark, Steve, Oleg, Neil and Shawn. I certainly plan to return in the future.

  • OL

Just finishing up my 5 day stay. Classes are 4:1 student to coach at the largest. Instruction was solid but I looked for a bit more intensity so I recommend a private at the end of the day if you are searching for an intense experience. Mornings have been freezing so bring many layers and look for colder weather then Miami. I changed teachers a few times and liked having the different feedback. Some teachers were so good I was sad not to have them the entire time. I wanted tennis bootcamp and this was not that but it was still a positive experience.

My family and I just returned from 4 days at Saddlebrook over Thanksgiving. I’m a 4.0 player and my wife is a 4.5. Our 15 year old and 13 year old boys are both good Junior Players and my 9 year old daughter is a beginner in quickstart. The best thing about Howard and his tennis staff is that they can make it educational and fun for all level of players. Howard personally ensures that every guest has a world class experience and the quality of his team and their tennis instruction is second to none. Another great part of the resort is that everything is within walking distance of our condo, so no driving is necessary. The food is fantastic and the prices are very reasonable for resort food. This is our second Thanksgiving at Saddlebrook, and the kids are already talking about going back next year. Whether you are a 5.0 player or a beginner, you will gain valuable instruction while having a blast at Saddlebrook. We cannot give a stronger endorsement of Howard and his team.

  • AJ

The tennis program was excellent! All of the pros were excellent teachers and their enthusiasm was contagious. I felt I had individual attention in both instruction as well as placing me with an appropriate group of players. I would definitely like to return.

  • JS

The tennis at Saddlebrook is unparalled. Both the instruction and the customer service are top-notch.

  • JS

My wife & I recently returned from a tennis camp week & The Hopman Program was superb. We can not rave long nor loudly enough about the level of professionalism and expertise of instruction. From the morning warm-ups & stretches (getting not only your body…perhaps soon to be fatigued & aching…ready for action but your mind focused & mood lifted…somehow you can’t help but head to your court smiling) thru the daily 5 hours of drills, more drills & even still more drills. If it sounds grueling, it should.
The approach is based on mobility & fitness…classic Harry Hopman…but it’s also about creating tennis instincts & honing tennis reflexes. Tennis smarts. It’s all business…not a bit ‘slap & tickle’ ball. But all done with infinite patience, tons of positive encouragement and great good humor. In short, it’s all about passion here. For the game & for teaching.
Though the emphasis is on repetition, with no more than a 4-1 player/coach ratio, there is more than abundant individual attention. Getting you to understand, adapt, incorporate. You drill to learn but you also drill to make what you’ve just learned come naturally. Without the dread “thinking instead of just playing” syndrome. Really, if you can’t get better here, you can’t get better. And, man, getting better sure is fun.
The entire experience takes its cue from Program Director Howard Moore, a deft combination of Cary Grant, Mr Roarke & Gandalf. Absolutely committed to making each player’s experience the very best, most rewarding possible. Dedicated to meeting whatever needs might arise, seamlessly and swiftly. Shawn McGee, Adult Tennis Director, unobtrusively videos and individually consults with each player, offering concise, incisive advice, zeroing in on specific, often very subtle changes in technique, instantly e-mailing the footage to you for future reference. Incidentally, all done with a very light touch, as viewing oneself can sometimes be rather unnerving, if not downright humiliating.
Though there seem to be a couple complaints in previous reviews about grouping players of matching ability (ratings), we neither saw nor heard any of that at all. Matter of fact, it quickly became quite apparent that Howard, Shawn & all the coaches must continuously meet and discuss each camper’s progress. Shifting players immediately & continually to other groups so as to balance compatibility or the comings & goings of players as they began or ended their stays.
The courts are pristinely groomed & maintained for every session and kept fully stocked with fresh towels & coolers full of cold water & Gatorade.
Accommodations are bright, roomy and ultra clean. Though, again, there seems to be a bit of carping about decor in a couple reviews, to be honest, we were so concerned with recovering and getting ourselves prepared to go the next day, we didn’t really notice any interior design faux pas or demode esthetics.
As to recovery, the Spa’s sauna & contemporary take on the old school steamroom were much appreciated. As were the massages. Wendy, of the healing touch, kept us answering the bell. And Kinesio taping is available if needed. Even the young woman at the ProShop was terrific, handling all of our (ok, my) equipment disasters with good-natured efficiency.
Our only negative comment (and relatively minor at that) regards the dining choices on site. Though we realize we’re in the minority as vegans, it’s the choice of more & more people as nutrition & health awareness grows…and, in any event, it’s hardly all that exotic any more. We did call weeks in advance to give fair warning and to see if getting meals would be possible but though there are several restaurants & cafes at the Resort, there was next to nothing (aside from a salad bar, with no vegan protein options at that) to speak of for us. If not for the kindness & grace of Lynne, in Dempsey’s Too, we would’ve had to go off campus for every meal (and who wants to drive around looking for something to eat when there’s all that ice wrapping & Ben Gay slathering to do?).
After the first couple days, she started conspiring with a chef to slip us some really great tasting vegan dishes…which, coincidentally, we heard, any non-vegan staff happening to taste-test considered delicious as well. Many thanks to Lynne.
And, finally, we cannot say enough about the extraordinary young woman from the Czech Republic who was our coach for the duration. Jitka (“Yitka!”) was nothing short of fabulous. Smart, funny, relentlessly patient. Passionate. About tennis and teaching. The iron fist in the velvet glove. Well, ah…actually sometimes the iron fist in the steel glove. Icy stare or melting smile, she did whatever it took to educate & motivate. Breaking everything down so we knew not only “what” to do but “why” and even, in our last days, “when”.
When my wife & I arrived, we were pretty much ex-tennis players. Hoping to maybe try to jump start a return, chip off a chunk of a near-decade’s petrified rust. Jitka did that. And much more. She gave us back our love of the game. A unique gift. For which we are most grateful. DEKULJI! POPRAT VSE NEJLEPSI!

Returned from my 3rd visit to SaddleBrook in one year. I love the tennis program here and it always exceeds my expectations. I always improve my game each time I visit and I take away a lot of tips but leave as a better player than when I went in. I will keep going back each opportunity I get and I love the 5 hour format even though its grueling and tough.

  • IW

Me and my husband discovered Seddlebrook about 8 years ago when we both wanted to go to a place where we could play both tennis and golf. We got absolutely hooked on Saddlebrook from there on!
I have started originally the 5 hour a day drill, however due to my age I felt that private lessons a day followed up by another hour of match with my husband would do just fine. We always look forward to play on the grass court at least one time per trip (and brag about it at our tennis club in Ontario, Canada!)
I have to mention Howard Moore, the most accommodating and amazing person who has been running the Hopman Tennis Program for as long as I know, I think thanks to him this program is running real well. Also, our experience with the tennis pro’s taking care of us during our private lessons deserve applause, especially Shawn (hope the spelling is right) – you’re the best! This time I finely applied your teaching to my game and it works!!
All in all, great experience, great time, great food and not to forget great swimming! We will be back in spring, you can count on us!

  • JB

What a great trip! We were looking for an active vacation and hoped to bring our tennis game up a notch. The folks at Saddlebrook completely exceeded our expectations – the program is well run and appropriate for all levels. The resort itself was amazing, and I suppose October must be the time to go, it wasn’t crowded, the weather was perfect, we’ll definitely be back.

  • TC

Ive now been going to Hopman Tennis more than 15 years. I love the tennis, i love the atmosphere and resort and i love the passion in which Howard and his team coach. From the aspiring junior to the weekend warrior, this place will improve your game within an exciting and postive atmosphere.

  • JG

I have been there several times. It never dissappoints and has even gotten better. They always include a personal video taping when you are doing clinics there. Now they video it with an IPAD and forward it directly to your e-mail. When you go home you have that video to look back at and remember the comments they told you when they critiqued you. Can’t wait to go back again. The resort is fabulous from the accomodations to the food and friendly staff and DJ @ the pool(bar).

  • CB

I’ve returned this week from 5 days of the Harry Hopman program at Saddlebrook. There are lots of reviews on the resort in various places and I’ll let the reader turn to those for the ‘resort’ goer.  My suite was more than adequate.  This review will focus on tennis.
First thoughts:  it would be very difficult to improve on this program if what you are interested in is full immersion tennis for 5 hours a day.  It is challenging, compelling and addictive regardless of your fitness level (disclosure:  age 50, relatively fit, and worn out by the 5 day mark). STAFF:  headed up by Howard Moore, the staff hails from all corners of the globe and all are superb experts at both the game and instruction of the game. Howard (England) has been there for better than 25 years, and has boundless energy.  Truly boundless.  He is very excited to do what he does and if you aren’t motivated to excel for him, you aren’t motivatable Thai (Vietnam) is an expert on your technique.  He is able to breakdown your stroke (each of them) in pieces and communicate to you what you do, why it’s bad and what and how to change.  He is a phenomenal player.  To give you an idea, on day one, the first 3 hour session he fed balls to three of us in various manner and missed a grand total of one feed.  One.  Something like 600-800 balls…. Kind of unfathomable. Vlad (Cuba) is another great instructor who is very good at picking out your most obscene stroke malfunction and massaging it till he can work on the next most offending part.  He is very affable and fun to drill with. Shawn (New Jersey) takes the Hopman program to heart.  He will work you as hard as you can go.  Then push you just a little harder.  It matters not how fit you are (or are not) he will challenge you.  He is big on consistency and match type play, and will make you better very quickly. Mitch (USA) is another young instructor who wants you to do well.  He will spend extra time with you focusing on your biggest needs, and empathizes with  his students well so that they improve on their skills.  He can see well across the court what is happening good and bad and offers good insight.  There are more.  These are the guys with whom I worked. I cannot imagine a better group of instructors to improve your game.
Facilities:  you will play on clay.  Har-Tru.  They are dragged smooth and clean each morning, and are in fine shape.  The courts have shade, cold water, towels chairs and anything else you may need.  We spent all of our time on one of about 4 courts, there are many, many more if they need them.
Your day:  will start with some very light jogging, then stretching for 5-10 minutes.  Then you will break up in groups based on skill levels.  Mini tennis is typical for 5 minutes then some baseline strokes to warm up.  After that it’ll be 2.5+ hours of drills, games (different types that expose different things) and match play.  It is fun fun fun.  And as intense as you want it to be.  You will break for lunch, then back at it for the 2 hour afternoon session.   You will be tired at the end of the day, but fired up about the next day because you’re here to get better and you will.
In conclusion, if you want country club light tennis lessons, perhaps another place is your best bet.  You want to work your but off, learn intricacies of strokes you probably didn’t know (but are capable ofemulating), then go to Saddlebrook.  You’ll be glad.  And I’ll be back.

  • PS

We love going to Saddlebrook. We try to vacation there one to two times per year. The tennis is second to none. Howard does a great job running the tennis center. The entire staff is helpful and accommodating. The ratio for student/teacher is 4:1. It’s like having a private lesson every day for 5 hours. I would recommend Saddlebrook to anyone wanted to have a great tennis vacation. The grounds are beautiful, the tennis is great, the food is good, and the staff is friendly.

  • GR

Saddlebrook Tennis Academy is a top-notch outfit that is equipped with highly experienced and professionally rated tennis instructors. The staff is highly polite and respectful in their demeanor with a touch of well-placed humor-coated with fun. They operate an excellent recipe of group drills-evaluation based; and a times fit in some one-on-one time when available. Also, they take time to focus on you and your techniques, building on the positives, and dismantling the negatives in order to rebuild techniques the right way. They push you to your limits testing your mettle. I consider the time spent at Saddlebrook improved my game approximately 30-40%. Considering the weather was highly sultry; the staff ensured we had fresh towels and cool water. I highly recommend Saddlebrook as the place to go if you truly desire to improve your tennis game.

  • TH

Saddlebrook Resort and Tennis is a worldclass operation combining a family environment with top level tennis. I can’t say enough about the quality of the staff and the level of tennis the academy attracts. I would strongly recommend avid tennis players to visit this worldclass resort.

  • LD

Saddlebrook is a home away from home. While the tennis camp required rigorous training schedules, the day’s hardwork is compensated by the good accommodation, excellent food from the restaurant and the blissful spa that they have on-site. The well-maintained expansive resort makes one to stay a couple of days more.
The staff are excellent and the tennis coaches are very patient. Hey Mark and Howard, I missed this year’s session due to the demands of my work but will surely see you again next year!

  • TL

I’ve been going to Saddlebrook with my brother for a week every summer since 2007 (when I was a 3.5), about the time when I started to take my tennis more seriously (early 30’s). My bro, a more established and skilled tennis player, started going a few years prior. We keep going back because we love the rigor of 5 hours on the court every day, great coaches, comfortable accommodations, and a very relaxing atmosphere. I’m probably a 4.5 now. Saddlebrook yields the perfect blend of hardcore tennis training with relaxing vacation resort. Make no mistake, when you’re at Saddlebrook, you’re either there for the golf or the tennis, and by 3pm, you’re not looking for much other than rest, recovery & nourishment.
Saddlebrook offers a spectacular pool area to cooldown in, and some nice restaurants and bars. These are probably pretty vibrant scenes, too, during peak seasons… pretty quiet typically during the summer, which is quite alright with me. The area of Wesley Chapel/New Tampa is growing up, too. Plenty of restaurant choices in the area and down Bruce B Downs Blvd, and a great movie theater right down the road. Tampa offers a lot of other diversions, too, but when you need to be on court and energetic at 7:50am, you don’t want to be out too late.
Saddlebrook has a top notch adult program. Their instructors are all skilled players, and most are very adept at identifying areas to improve your game and working on those areas with you. Howard Moore is the director and deserves the credit for keeping Saddlebrook on top with a great staff. He’s always checking to make sure you’re doing well, and asking for feedback. He doesn’t personally provide coaching personally, but he’s a actually a superb coach and knows how to break you down so that he can fix you… my brother and I got the better part of an hour with him one time and were exhausted by the 30-minute mark. Loved it.
Shawn McGee is my favorite instructor. He has extremely clean strokes, great for demonstrating, but he is keen at diagnosing your mechanics and style and helping you improve. He’ll tell you something 5 different ways knowing that one of them will eventually click in your brain. This year, he seems to have been moved up in the administrative chain and is doing more directing for the program…good for him, but my court requested more coaching time with him. All the coaches I’ve had at Saddlebrook over the years have been good. What’s great is that they all seem to have a genuine interest in helping you become a better player, while still wanting you to enjoy your time on court. You get the right mix of repetition to develop your mechanics and muscle memory by hitting a lot of balls, and also point play, so you can get accustomed to putting what you’ve learned into action. I’ve tried a few other places (Van der Meer, Newcombe, Bollitieri, Nike Amherst), but Saddlebrook is the best for a tennis vacation and very reasonably priced by comparison. I only wish I had the vacation time to go there more often.

We have just Finished our 2 week Saddlebrook Tennis trip from the UK. I would not go anywhere else for 1st Class Tennis coaches and program 1st Class Physio/Fitness Centre ( I am post knee Op & have never played better thanks to their support) 1st Class onsite facilities ( rooms are charming, staff accommodating ) Our 6 year old was thrilled with the fun he had at Kids Club, we felt very comfortable knowing our son was safe & entertained. The Hopman program could not have done more for for us, Our game/fitness improved 100% Go to Saddlebrook!!

  • SS

We specifically went to Saddlebrook to do two full days of tennis clinic after my sister was there in Feb, 2011 and did the tennis clinic and had a great experience. Our instructor recently was Tony (from Tokoyo) Even though there were four of us, he immediately identified our weaknesses. He drilled us on all our swings and we saw much improvement in all our games. Even though there were four each of us felt he gave us what we needed individually as well. We met people who return every year to do the Tennis Camp. Although it was tough in the August heat, I am really glad we chose Saddlebrook.

  • ST

I discovered Saddlebrook tennis pros 3 years ago and have not sought instruction anywhere else since. While I have had several instructors (and applaud them all) Tony exceeds my expectations in all categories. Not only does he give me the tools to improve my game, he works out every bit as hard as he makes me! Never have I felt shortchanged or questioned any suggestions from any of the coaches. My confidence level and physical ability have improved every time I visit Tony and Saddlebrook. In an age where we can monetarily acquire personal/physical improvements that we don’t have to work for, Tony gives me the self satisfaction of working and earning my success both on and off the court.

Great tennis instruction. Tai pushes you to your full potential while still having fun. I will definitely be back.

My experience at the Hopman program was exceptional. I had come out to the US (as a Brit) for a business conference, and decided that afterwards I would fulfill a long running desire to have a proper tennis vacation. And I wasn’t disappointed. I managed 6 full days of tennis under the expert coaching of Tony, and Shaun. A brief tropical storm tried to stop of us from playing, but the time missed was kindly made up at the end of the week. The positives: – The coaching was fantastic. Visiting at a an unusually quiet time I had the benefit of a mix of extensive one on one coaching, and drill based sessions with one or two other guests. The coaches immediately picked out my weaknesses at the start of the week, analysed them, broke them down and then progressively built them up to new levels. One step back, five steps forward! – The intensity of the program was highly rewarding. If you manage to do some good fitness training before you come out here it will really pay off. Tony had me running around all day long, carrying out professional drills to the point that I thought I could run a marathon afterwards! We worked on pretty much every shot in the game, and all have improved amazingly. I could tell that he really cared about my improvement, and his smile was often bigger than mine when things finally clicked and my forehand started to fire! – The resort itself was beautiful and it really was a great, relaxing escape from city life. It was of course very hot in late June, but each court has a shaded area well stocked with ice cold drinks to keep you going. I certainly miss the weather now I’m back in rainy England! The negatives: – The resort does a lot of things right, but the one thing that is seriously lacking is any evening entertainment (aside from one wine and cheese night). As a solo traveler this means you have very little to do in the evenings, other than eat! You of course meet other people on the tennis program – who in my experience were all fantastic like-minded people – but even then there is not a lot to do together. This was a huge contrast to a lot of European sports/outdoor focused resorts I have been to which run numerous, fun evening activities. All in all I would definitely visit Saddlebrook again for the Hopman program, and I have already recommended it to many friends in the UK! The slight negative I have highlighted would not be enough to put me off, but if the resort were to address this it would make the experience truly unbeatable!

This is undoubtedly one of the best places to go for tennis instruction. If you are looking to push yourself physically and can handle the heat, this is the place. The quality of instruction is better than the vast majority of tennis resorts and camps out there.
The primary weakness of the program is that it is housed in a resort that is not of the same caliber. The rooms are fine, but nothing special. The food options at the resort are very limited and not that great. If you’re staying for more than a couple of days, it’s worth it to have a car so that you can go offsite for some meals. Also, while the Hopman staff were all fantastic, the resort staff were more of a mixed bag. Restaurant and spa staff were lovely, but the front desk staff less so. Looking forward to a return visit to the Hopman program soon.

I just experienced 5 days at Saddlebrook adult tennis camp. It was the best tennis instruction I have ever received. I returned home with a new forehand, backhand and serve technique that is really helping me on the court. Mark is an excellent instructor!!! Loved every minute of this camp and was especially excited to have our picture taken with John Isner who trains there. I hope to have the opportunity to return to Saddlebrook and the excellent tennis instruction.

I just returned from my first tennis camp at Saddlebook, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve been playing tennis for two and a half years and I learned more about tennis in one week at Saddlebrook. Our pro, Mark, was the best. He taught us the proper form for hitting forehands, backhands, volleys, and serving technique. I’ve never been able to serve with slice or come off the ground when I serve. Now, I can (thanks Mark). In addition, he taught us strategy. Mark also recommended the best racquet for my game. The entire staff at Saddlebrook was extremely friendly, the food was great, and the highlight was meeting and taking a picture with John Isner.

Just returned from saddlebrook. My tennis partner and i played for 3 days and the one thing that stands out the most was our pro Tony. He was incredibly motivating and.changed both our four hands. We left better overall players. He never ran out energy and made it so much fun. Looking forward to going back!!!!

Just returned from a week at saddlebrook tennis with my 10 year old daughter…Couldn’t have been a better experience…from the beginning at check in the staff were friendly and accommodating…. The grounds and accommodations were excellent and well maintained…. The restaurants available have delicious food and reasonable prices for a resort of this caliber …. As for the tennis it’s self… Howard Moore and his staff are with out compare…I’ve been playing tennis nearly 40 yrs and have seen a lot of different type of instruction…the command of the game and the way the teach it at saddlebrook is excellent and comprehensive…
My 10 year old daughter had the chance to play and drill with other serious young tennis players… This plus the excellent instruction she received made this a trip we will do again soon! This trip is a must for children and adults that have tennis as an important piece of their lives.

There were only 2 players during most of 2 day instruction. Darren, our instructor was excellent. I learned new techniques and loved his style of teaching. Everything was great as far as the tennis is concerned. The resort was a littled dated for my taste but it was very nice.

This is the best tennis camp! Every time I have the opportunity, I come here. Shawn and Howard always make sure everyone is having a great time and that they are getting the right tennis experience. Every teaching pro does an amazing job of improving your play, increasing your conditioning, and making it super fun. The 5 hours of court time a day is intense but the sessions seems to fly by because they make it so fun. During this visit, I had Thai, Vlad, and Tony. All were super awesome. I would request each of them again for sure. I’m always amazed at how quickly they see flaws and how great they are at fixing them while you’re there. Now if I could only have this kind of instruction at home too!

We just got back from our Saddlebrook Tennis vacation and had a blast. Our instructors were so knowledgable. We learned more in the two (5 1/2 hours) days than we have learned in the past year of taking many many lessons. Oleg and Ty were wonderful instructors. Howard Moore was so helpful and kind. It was truly a wonderful experience. We will be going back, hopefully soon. John and Leigh Ann ( New Mexico)

If you want great tennis instruction, go to Saddlebrook. Tai is an excellent instructor, gearing clinics to the level of those participating. His explanations are clear and understandable and he doesn’t give you too many new things to tackle at once. The clinics often have only 2 or 3 people. Saddlebrook is a beautiful resort with lots of amenities and a staff who really cares that you are having a good experience.

I spent four days in April at Saddlebrook, my fourth visit in five years. As always, the weather was perfect, the environment beautiful, the facilities superb, the food excellent and the tennis instruction taxing but useful and friendly. I just love the place.

Saddlebrook offers excellent adult tennis clinics. This was my forth visit and feel I couldn’t have received better instruction. Our pro, Steve Getchell, helped me and my three friends improve our mechanics as well as strategies for our upcoming state league season.
