Crosswater: This heathland-style course borders the Deschutes and Little Deschutes rivers and is notable for the its views of Mt. Bachelor and for the elk, deer, eagles, osprey, owls, otters, and raccoons the live in the area. At 7,693 yards from the Gold Tees, it appears long but at this elevation, 4,500 feet, balls carry in the thinner air. Par 72, 5,389-7,683 yards.
The Meadows: A long, scenic course that begins at the Sunriver Lodge out across a great meadow and through stands of ponderosa pines. Its elevated, mounded greens demand accuracy. Par 71, 5,284-6,946 yards.
The Woodlands: Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., this award-winning course stands out for its deep bunkers, lakes and rock outcroppings, all of which place a premium on club selection and accuracy. Par 72, 5,446-6,880 yards.
Spa & Fitness Center: The 30,000-square-foot Sage Springs Club and Spa, which is under the umbrella of Sunriver Resort, encompasses the three indoor tennis courts, a complete fitness center, indoor lap pool, and massage treatment rooms. If, on the other hand, you rent through Sunriver Vacations you’ll have access to Mavericks Health Club, which has a fitness center, indoor swimming pool, climbing wall, massage rooms, and a permanent wave pool.

There are also canoes for rent on the rivers and streams; an equestrian center; two outdoor swimming pools; fishing on any of several rivers; a large grassy field for soccer, baseball, football and the like; a children’s playground; a nature center; a miniature golf course, and more.
Children's programs: Family Circle Magazine rated the resort the best family destination in the Northwest. There are in fact two children’s programs: one operated by Sunriver Resort and a second by the Sunriver Owners Association (SOA). The resort offers a Fort Funnigan, which takes children ages 3 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday and some evenings. for more information, phone 541-593-4609. Best team nicest tennis trainers and challenging you at the same time Great kids tennis camp Amazing resort, breakfast is out of this world
There are two tennis programs at Sunriver, one run by the resort and the other run by the Sunriver Homeowners Association. We tried both programs and while both were good, the pros and clinics at the Homeowners Association were our favorite. Jake (assisted by Jess) does a great job with 2 one-hour clinics every weekday for intermediate players, a mixer every Saturday morning, and an advanced mixer on Tuesday afternoons. The courts are in a lovely woodsy setting. You can also book time on courts around Sunriver for no fee if the accommodations you choose come with a homeowner “Sharc pass” (also good for the pool). We were able to meet people at the clinics to play doubles with. The downside is that there is no active game arranging. Aside from tennis, Sunriver is just an amazing vacation spot….your non-tennis-playing friends and family will not be bored. We also biked, hiked, rafted, kayaked, went to the pool, saw a band on the lawn behind the lodge, and on and on.
We spent two summer vacations at Sunriver when Eric Nokes was running the tennis program and loved it for the tennis program. I was back there this summer and took one tennis clinic. While the pro was very good and personable, there were just two of us at the clinic and the feeling was just not the same. With a 90 minute clinic running $35, I did not end up going back (while we would have gone to both 90 minute clinics every day in Eric’s program). It is still an amazing setting with something for everyone (we also did stand up paddleboard, pickleball, a float trip, lots of biking, a free concert on the golf course, and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery and fantastic air) and the tennis offerings are good, it is just not as great as it once was. I think a couple years of lower costs and trying to get some of the prior regular guests back in might work to build it back up….the infrastructure is there.
The setting is stunning! This is a large resort with lots of opportunities to do a variety of things. Also got to explore the area and there is lots to see.
There are dozens of courts spread throughout the residential vacation community. The courts are managed by various homeowner associations. We run the USTA Pacific Northwest Sectionals at Sunriver and they are great to work with.
This is great place to vacation and enjoy the outdoors and if you like tennis even better. The tennis lesson offered at the resort are very good and well worth the money. You have lots of opportunities to practice your skills on the many courts located on the property.
The courts are in good shape and there are plenty of them so – no waiting. The tennis scene is a good one. As a result of a new athletic facility, they no longer employ the tennis pro, so his camp has moved elsewhere.
Another real drawback was their move to minimum 4 day stays. We don’t always need that amount of time or want to be there that length of time, so it is no longer practical or economical to rent at Sunriver. For the tennis playoffs held there, we now rent elsewhere and drive in.
And as a single person, there really aren’t places to stay inexpensively at Sunriver. There are dog sitters, but these aren’t publicly known. I have had many fun trips to Sunriver and I always enjoy my stay there. We just don’t have a good reason to go there and spend what it costs to stay.
a pleasant vacation
Our 10 year old granddaughter had a private lesson from Steve and she learned alot from him and loved taking the lesson. She had a choice of activities a few days later and was most enthusiastic about another lesson. Her outlook on the sport is very positive thanks to his instruction and positive attitude. We look forward to tennis here next summer.
A lot of individual attention in the group lessons for kids. Pete, the kids’ instructor, is great with young people.
I have enjoyed and learned a lot at Steve’s summer camps and really enjoy the day lessons and events he does at Sunriver Resort. It is fun tennis and I always learn something new. Thanks Steve and Dorothy!
We love playing tennis there. I enjoy the tennis for myself as well as for our children.
Great pick of courts and really nice people. Accomodations at the Lodge were wonderful and breath taking surroundings of the Cascade Mts. We’d come back in a minute
Steve Vaughan does a great job of instruction and makes it fun at the same time. The resort area is also a great place in a wonderful setting.
Great tennis clinics everyday with drills afterwards. Group tennis or privates. Very nice articulate instructors. Excellent place to play tennis.
Three of our daughters were involved in tennis camps at Sunriver this year. The level of instruction is adapted for each age group and made to be fun as well as challenging.
Well run USTA Tourney. Sunriver Village showing wear and several empty storefronts. Still an excellent family vacation spot.
Our team had a ‘pre-regionals’ session with Steve and really received some good pointers. We really enjoyed his sense of humor which also made his instructions memorable. Would love to return for a family vacation and attend a Wild Wild West camp.
It’s always a good time in Sunriver.
Sunriver has been a favorite for many years with excellent tennis courts and many, many bike paths. I would definitely recommend going to Sunriver…..a must place to visit!
I enjoyed the USTA Senior & Super Senior Sectionals occurring June 25-30. Great weather and superior competition, however Sectionals occurred the same time as a triathlon, and a major golf tournament. This made travel difficult, and caused defaults or lineup changes in scheduled matches due to road closures. The organizers should separate these events.
Great resort with lotst of other things to do, like biking, swimming, canoeing and hiking. Played in the USTA regional tennis championship June 28, 29 and 30, a yearly event we have earned to play in the last 4 years. Appreciated the use of the Mavericks Sport Center this year for participants and family. Great courts if you want to play tennis, but there are so many other things to do in and around Sunriver, that a 1 or 2 week stay would be very worthwhile. We stayed a week and would have loved to stay longer, even if we have been there many times.
Great tennis, biking paths through out the area . Definitely recomend the resort for a great vacation. Golf, tennis, boating, fishing the works. You won’t find anything better.
