It would be tempting to attribute Kurt Edelbrock’s commitment to tennis to the fact that he owns the courts at Taos Tennis at Quail Ridge Taos as well as the nearby swimming pool and building that houses the pro shop.
But the truth is Edelbrock has been running a solid program on these courts since 1980 (with a few brief lapses when owners mistakenly thought they could to better), long before he became the proprietor. And it’s also true that under his ownership the complex expanded from eight to ten courts, a necessity to meet the demand he created, especially in summer, when there are one or more tennis activities scheduled for adults every day. He supplements that with several sanctioned and unsanctioned tournaments during summer and fall and weekly sessions for juniors and a couple of summer junior day camps. And such is his passion, that even in winter, he’ll spread sheets of black visqueen (a polyethylene plastic) over a couple of courts to melt the snow, so it is actually possible to play there year-round.
“This is my heart and soul,” he told me as we sat courtside having beers after a late-afternoon clinic. “We’ve got such an athletic community that a facility like this can stay busy,”
If you show up at the courts—whether you rent one of the adjacent condos or stay anywhere else in town—and the staff will find a way to get you involved.

Taos Tennis at Quail Ridge is a great place for tennis with a great view of the mountains. Kurt Edelbrock, Martha and the entire team continually maintain the courts and the grounds to make this a great tennis experience. In season, Kurt provides for daily tennis drills/drop-in opportunities to play and multiple tournaments throughout the season. When I visit with no scheduled matches, they help find a partner for me. I recently participated in Kurt’s ‘shot of the day’. Kurt gave me individual attention and provided the exact instruction I needed on what I had been struggling with. Thank you Kurt and Martha for another great experience when I come to Taos Tennis at Quail Ridge in Taos from Texas.
Beautiful facility. Nice helpful staff. Had a clinic with Kurt who made it enjoyable and educational. Played a set afterwards to practice what we learned.
Taos is a lovely historic area & the tennis here at Quail Ridge is welcoming, as well as competitive! The programs in place are well organized and the staff is always helpful and friendly. There is something for all ages and ability levels. The pool and hot tub are centrally located on the grounds, and the Golden Pinon restaurant attached to the facility means all your basic comforts are walking distance from your condo! Love the convenience and surrounding mountain scenery of the southern Rockies.
Had a great time on the tennis court with Kurt, Roger and the locals at drop in doubles and the weekly clinic. Lots of laughs and excellent instruction. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and it couldn’t have been easier to just show up and play…
We had a great time with the tennis tournament this weekend in Taos great tennis, great directors. It was run so well thanks for having us
We just did the task tournament this past weekend. It was amazing. Amazing weather amazing Directors thank you for having us.
We stayed and played at Quail Ridge for its annual tennis tournament, which took place this past weekend. The facilities were top-notch: clean, comfortable room, recently-resurfaced tennis courts, and well-maintained landscaping. We did not visit the on-site restaurant, but other guests spoke highly of it. It’s a beautiful setting, with great views of the nearby mountains.
I just returned home from the Taos Tournament at Quail Ridge. This well-organized event is phenomenal with Kurt at the helm. He and his staff do a magnificent job managing schedules and ensuring matches are on-time and sometimes early. Participants are indulged with a New Mexican dinner on Saturday night, which was delicious and fun getting to know other players. I highly recommend this event and location for your next tennis getaway. 10/10!
We just spent the the last 4 days at the Quail Ridge Taos Tennis resort and played in a tennis tournament. We stayed in a condo onsite and the entire experience was marvelous. If you love a small town in the mountains, good food and a friendly resort – this is the place for you!
This is the most awesome place I’ve ever been Kurt Edelbrock the owner is a very generous and skilled pro.
This is a great club, a club with awesome views and great people. Every year the Taos Open Tournament keeps getting better and better; it’s well organized, brings a great level of play, and has a generous party and trophies. The accommodations are getting better and better every year, the restaurant on the property is delicious and busy with locals. Playing at altitude is always a great challenge and the “high altitude” balls sold in the pro-shop are a necessity. Can’t thank Kurt or his staff enough for all the fun days spend at the Quail. As a friend said, “this is summer camp for adults!” I am not planning on growing out of summer camp anytime soon. Cheers.
This is only our fourth year at qual ridge our daughter’s eleventh year. Since our retirement we will be making it an annual event. We love the tennis at Qual Ridge and the people are great. Since retirement outside Albuquerque we only travel to two locations and Qual Ridge is one of them.
Had a great experience playing tennis.
We rented a condo and spent a great month of June- early July 2024 at Taos Tennis at Quail Ridge Taos, four miles north of historic Taos New Mexico square. Friendly staff and members made for great shot of the day, private lessons and drop in play experiences. Owner and director of tennis Kurt Edelbrock provided great insight into double’s strategy as well as a special event, Wimbledon Day Saturday doubles matches with white clothes only, borrowed wooden rackets and strawberries and cream. A swimming pool/hot tub, great on site restaurant and Mountain Views made for an overall great escape from the summer heat.
Kurt is the man! We had the best experience while we played in the Taos Open tournament. Everything was spot on! Efficient, Clean , Professional. The ambience of the Land of Enchantment was exquisite. I’d highly recommend Quail Ridge for tennis or to just hang out and chill. We stayed on site at one of the condos, they were spacious, clean, adorable and very New Mexican (adobe). Bonus is we were able to attend the Taos Pow Wow!
I had a wonderful experience here last week. I was in town visiting family and had the opportunity to take a lesson with the owner, Kurt. Kurt was a masterful teacher who took his time to get to know me a bit and better understand my background and level of playing. I will be sure to patronize Quail Ridge whenever I’m in Taos and if you’re considering you should too! I loved my experience and the grounds are beautiful and well kept!
We played tennis at Taos tennis courts today met the owner and tennis pro, Kurt. He was very helpful and friendly and we were able to schedule a court with ease. I highly recommend stopping by to play at these well maintained tennis courts if you are in Taos and want to keep your tennis practice routine while on vacation.
The Quail Ridge Inn is a place my family has visited every summer for the last 23 years. The youth program for our kids have been fantastic. All the instructors are full of energy and our kids have solid tennis technique and always have a blast. I have taken private lessons with Kurt and he is a magician. I started as a complete novice and Kurt has ignited my passion for tennis. He is the perfect mix of being encouraging but also demanding and makes you feel immediately part of his family. He is a true treasure of Taos and we will keep coming back for him and the community he has created at the Quail Ridge Inn!
Fabulous setting for summer tennis vacation. Weather is outstanding, 50 to 80 degree, and no humidity. Enjoy 10 tennis courts, heated pool, hot tub, and pickle ball courts, with spectacular views to the surrounding mountain views. Owner, Kurt Edelbrock and staff will make sure your stay at Quail Ridge is an experience of a life time. After a day of excellent tennis, or relaxing around the pool, the town of Taos is only a short drive from Quail Ridge, offering, great restaurants, art galleries, and a unique southwestern, multi-cultural experience. Take a tennis vacation at Quail Ridge and have an outstanding experience,
Tennis at the Quail Ridge is spectacular. Located on the outskirts of picturesque Taos NM, this resort is on the high mesa surrounded by mountains! It’s breathtakingly beautiful. 9 hard courts. The resort keeps the courts in very clean good condition, replace nets and keep the place in good working condition. Kirk, the owner/pro is a very good instructor and he makes everyone feel capable and included. Kirk is really funny. He makes clinics fun. He arranges round robins and tournaments to provide play time for his regulars. He has a huge following of repeat players for his tournaments in July and September. I highly recommend you plan a trip out west!
After visiting Quail Ridge last summer, my husband and I came back to Taos for 5 weeks this summer. Kurt, Roger, Martha and Jeanie welcomed us like we were old friends. We were instantly part of the tennis family from the first moment we walked onto the courts. The clinics were tons of fun and very informative and the members invited us to join in their group play. We spent 5 glorious weeks creating friendships that will last a lifetime along with amazing tennis matches that consisted of great sportsmanship and tons of laughter. If you love tennis as much as we do, then there is no other place we would suggesting visiting. The Pro Shop, courts, instruction and all around atmosphere are a MUST! Visit Quail Ridge…you will not be disappointed and the views and hospitality are atop notch! M.L. From Dallas
I cannot say enough good things about the individuals who oversee, as well as the participants, of the tennis and pickleball programs at Quail Ridge Tennis Center. Everyone was so welcoming and inclusive. They have a robust tennis and pickleball community with clinics and/or play every day of the week. There are condos on the property so you step outside and are ready to participate in whatever is on the agenda for that day..some days offering multiple clinics. Private lessons are available for both sports which I highly recommend. I took tennis and pickleball lessons. We spent 6 weeks at Quail Ridge and I can honestly say I was very sad to leave….having made so many new friends! You will never find a better value for unlimited tennis or pickleball play, or nicer people who only want to make sure your visit is a success on all levels. See you guys next summer!
My husband and I took two lessons from Kurt during a recent trip to Taos. He was masterful in his ability to evaluate our skills and hone in on what each of us needed the most. He coached each of us on different things based on our strengths and weaknesses. An excellent pro and a super nice guy. We will definitely be back to see him!
Excellent resort for the beginner to the advanced player. Where else can you play tennis in the morning and then hike the Rio Grande Gorge in the afternoon? The high altitude takes a little adjustment, but it is totally worth the challenge. Want to really test yourself? Play in the annual adult tournament. It is always around July4th, and boasts players from the southwest & beyond.
I was staying in taos with my family but had an important tournament coming up and needed to play a bit. Sid, at the proshop, was very accommodating over the phone and helped me set up some hitting and match play. The facility is well maintained and the proshop is well equipped. I cannot tell Sid thank you enough for accommodating me and my family.
Overall, a great tennis resort if you are passing through or traveling to Taos. All the coaches were extremely friendly and that was definitely my favorite thing about the resort. The camp /clinic that I participated in was good with fundamentals but I felt like it was too tailored for beginners. Granted, that is the nature of the class when most people are beginners. I am a junior but I still got the feeling that the coaches had stuff to teach me. There are plenty of courts to play on and it was an added bonus that they were in walking distance from the condo we stayed at. Some of the courts did have some dead spots that needed some repair but one they did not bother me too much and two, I think there was repairs about to happen when I left. Overall, I had a great time at Qual ridge. Extremely pretty as it is at the base mountain. The pool is an added bonus.
