From a tennis player's perspective, however, what makes the Royal Lahaina so appealing is the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch, a short stroll from the lobby.
It's a handsome complex, with a dedicated stadium court and 10 others, grouped around a pro shop that, like the hotel's cottages, takes its architectural cues from the plantation era. The Royal Lahaina Resort Tennis Ranch closed briefly at the end of 2023 and has now reopened under the management of USTA Hawaii Pacific.

This resort has the best matching program EVER! We have traveled extensively to many tennis resorts. And although they are all eager to do lessons, VERY few actually make ANY effort to help match players. The Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch is the best of all!!! Their staff provides excellent instruction, clinics, round robins, and the most comprehensive matching of all in the friendliest of environments. It couldn’t get much better!!! It is our absolute favorite tennis vacation spot!!!

I had a great experience at Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch. Brenda at the front desk is very welcoming, helpful and courteous. Its nice to walk into the club house and feel at home. I took a one hour lesson with Caz (Casual Caz). I was having trouble with my forhand ground stroke and in an hour, he helped me to sort through grips and find the one that worked best for me. By the time I left I felt like I owned my ground stroke again. They have a practice wall you can hit against and was available to me along with a basket of balls. The next am I played a doubles match set up by the club. Very nice women and of equal ability so we had a fun game.

I was so impressed with the quality of tennis lessons I received from Kaz during my Maui vacation. His expert knowledge,personality,effective communication and teaching abilities made me realize what a dedicated and wonderful Tennis Coach he is. I was only able to schedule a few lessons while in Maui but my time with Kaz was worth every minute. You do not have to stay at the Royal Lahina to schedule lessons with him. I wish I had discovered him earlier on my trip.and already thinking of planning a return trip to Maui to include more lessons with Kaz. Why? I do not think I can find a tennis coach in my city who will help my individual progress the way he can. He sees what needs correcting and what new techniques are needed. Kaz helps players understand why they’re doing something instead of just what they are doing. I saw other instructors teaching as well but my 3 lessons were with Kaz only. Thank you Kaz. Hope to see you in 2019.

I visit Maui at least 1 time a year and usually always play at my hotel court and then hit the beach. This time (December 2nd 2018) my friend found the Royal Lahaina tennis ranch. All I can say is WOW WOW WOW!!!! We called one week in advance and were set up for a daily round robin based on skill level. I was a little optimistic as to how the pairing would go as we had 3 in our group. The R.L.T.R. did a fabulous job setting us up for a fabulous week of tennis. We were in the 8:30-10:30 morning group session and most days played until 11 or 11:30 because the matches were just so fun! One highlight for us was that the Fed Cup has been hosted in Maui a couple years back and they have the “Stadium” court all set up and one day we got scheduled to play there. It was a BLAST!!!! I was bummed there were no fans that day to cheer for us but I could imagine them being there. If you are thinking of getting away for some good fun and tennis don’t hesitate to get to Maui where everyone is Ohana!

This was THE BEST tennis facility my husband and I have ever been to!!! It is located in Maui. The actual Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch, although located at the Royal Lahaina Resort, is managed separately. (We stayed at a Marriott Residence club while we were there).There are 10 hard courts plus a beautiful stadium court. It is both a busy and vibrant facility. All the courts are immaculately kept and well serviced with towels and water. There are 2 well organized sisters who run the busy daily schedule. They were simply amazing!!! We were matched 7 days with good competitive mixed doubles as well as attending a clinic on Saturday with good match play afterwards. Truly, we cannot think of one drawback to mention. The Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch is by far the best tennis facility we have visited (and we’ve been to many listed in the top 25 resorts)!!! We will be returning simply for the outstanding tennis.

I was not staying at this resort, but wanted to play tennis while on a business trip. Someone recommended the Royal Lahaina , and I was so thankful for the tip. I had two lessons from one of the Pros there (Kaz) and they were the MOST PRODUCTIVE lessons that I have ever had in 37 years of play and instruction. The Tennis staff was delightful and the locals were very kind and inviting. Participated in Kaz’ Saturday clinics as much as possible, superb instruction in clinic format, great round-robin matches post clinic. The staff does a fantastic job of arranging matches through the weeks for us. We’ve made many friends of the locals as well as visitors here. The weather is usually gorgeous (it’s MAUI!!!). I have been playing at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch annually (while on vacation) for over 15 years. The facility features stellar courts, a friendly staff that goes above and beyond to arrange daily matches and ensure that players have all the amenities they need. On my first day out this year, I broke the strings on my new racquet. When I arrived the following morning for my match, my racquet was already restrung and waiting for me. The only weakness I can think of is that it is strictly a great place to play tennis; that is, it doesn’t have a spa, fitness center, cuisine, etc. That being said, it’s in Maui and I have all of that at the resort I stay at.

My wife and I simply loved playing tennis at the RLTR. Kazakh, the head pro as well as Brenda and Cynthia made us feel welcomed. They set up matches for us in men’s doubles, ladies doubles and mixed doubles which were all very enjoyable and competitive to our level. The setting is by the beach in Ka’anapali, Maui, and is lovely. The staff there are all very friendly, very helpful, and go out of their way to make your experience excellent. A wonderful tennis ranch!!! As a visitor for two weeks, I was welcomed to the facility. Matches were set up to suit my needs: level, any mornings Monday thru Friday. A variety of Pros were available for lessons and I was matched with a pro to best help my abilities. My fees for the two weeks were reasonable and set up to give me a tennis pass for the duration of my visit. The tennis ranch coordinator, Brenda, is lovely and does her best for everyone. I made several new tennis friends, many of them permanent residents of Maui. We will return to the area next year and part of the reason is the opportunity to play at the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch! ??

I just returned from a 10 day trip to Maui. I stayed at the Sheraton and was referred to the next door Royal Lahaina Resort to play some tennis. I had the best tennis experience in my travels. Why? The staff was so nice and matched me up so well that I don’t think my own club and staff could have been better. The price was stunningly below expectations. The courts were well maintained; towels and water were provided. I’d go back in a second.

My friend and I had an excellent session with Cathy while in Maui for a wedding. We called the night before for a drill but the drill didn’t fill so Cathy basically gave us a great semiprivate lesson with good focused tips to tweak/fix some things for 1-1/2 hrs. Great workout, hit a ton of balls, and she was a pleasure to meet. And a very reasonable charge. We could see the tennis center was very active and appeared well-kept. I will keep proximity to their tennis center a consideration in future trips to Maui.

I spent one week doing daily privates with Cathy Nicoloff. Visiting Maiu with wife and kids, I needed to be back at the Westin Villas before they woke up. Cathy was very accomadating and we did daily privates at 07:00 AM and even once starting at 06:00 AM. She was great and I learned a lot during this week and was able to work on all parts of my game… only wish I could have worked with her more. I was sorry to leave but would highly recommend the resort and Cathy.

This Tennis Resort is a great place for players of all ages and skill levels to visit and play. The management staff go well overboard to accommodate your needs and arranging of play times with other local players and guests. The location is breathtaking with the pacific ocean close enough that you can walk for a quick, or long dip.

I played twice at The Royal Lahaina Resort and both times were exceptional. The facilities are well maintained, the view is magnificent, and the staff and coach were absolutely amazing!!! I learned so much in the 1 1/2 hour clinic with Cathy that I am excited to get back into leagues in my town and start implementing what she taught us…literally changed the way I hit the ball (in a great way, of course)!! I can’t stop bragging about this tennis resort and hope I get to visit it again someday on another vacation!! I highly recommend playing here!

The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They set up the match for you and all you do is show up to play! They are very good at putting correct levels together for competitive play. My husband and I travel to Maui a few times each year. We stay at Maui Kaanapali Villas, which is located directly next door to the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch. Upon our return, we are recognized and greeted with the spirit of Aloha. We play several days each week, on gorgeous, well-maintained courts. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and does an amazing job of arranging both singles and doubles matches, according to our abilities, during our stay. There are 3 pros on site giving lessons and holding clinics, at extremely reasonable prices. Kudos to the head pro, Kaz Yamanoha, for keeping the integrity of the clinics high, without forgoing the fun aspects of playing with folks you’ve never met. The pro-shop has everything you might need, including re-stringing. I look forward to returning every trip. I’ve done my share of travelling, but nowhere comes close to this Resort.

For about ten years , I have enjoyed meeting and playing with local players and tennis buffs from all over the world. The staff is very efficient arranging matches for players with the same abilities whether it’s singles, doubles, or mixed. The cost is very reasonable and the facility is well-maintained. They also have pros on staff for lessons and clinics. If you’re bringing your racket, this should be your first stop to sign up!

Me and my boyfriend loved playing tennis. They are so friendly and accommodating. I took a lot of clinics since I am a beginner meanwhile my boyfriend was set up with matches. This was one of best things to do while in Hawaii. Employee are friendly. I am planning on going back and plan to play tennis again.

Brenda and Cynthia are awesome at making matches for visitors! I am a strong 4.0 player and they got me great matches six different days, each day with one or more new players.
I just returned from a 10 day trip to Maui. I stayed at the Sheraton and was referred to the next door Royal Lahaina Resort to play some tennis. I had the best tennis experience in my travels. Why? The staff was so nice and matched me up so well that I don’t think my own club and staff could have been better. The price was stunningly below expectations. The courts were well maintained; towels and water were provided. I’d go back in a second.
My friend and I had an excellent session with Cathy while in Maui for a wedding. We called the night before for a drill but the drill didn’t fill so Cathy basically gave us a great semiprivate lesson with good focused tips to tweak/fix some things for 1-1/2 hrs. Great workout, hit a ton of balls, and she was a pleasure to meet. And a very reasonable charge. We could see the tennis center was very active and appeared well-kept. I will keep proximity to their tennis center a consideration in future trips to Maui.
I spent one week doing daily privates with Cathy Nicoloff. Visiting Maiu with wife and kids, I needed to be back at the Westin Villas before they woke up. Cathy was very accomadating and we did daily privates at 07:00 AM and even once starting at 06:00 AM. She was great and I learned a lot during this week and was able to work on all parts of my game… only wish I could have worked with her more. I was sorry to leave but would highly recommend the resort and Cathy.
This Tennis Resort is a great place for players of all ages and skill levels to visit and play. The management staff go well overboard to accommodate your needs and arranging of play times with other local players and guests. The location is breathtaking with the pacific ocean close enough that you can walk for a quick, or long dip.

I played twice at The Royal Lahaina Resort and both times were exceptional. The facilities are well maintained, the view is magnificent, and the staff and coach were absolutely amazing!!! I learned so much in the 1 1/2 hour clinic with Cathy that I am excited to get back into leagues in my town and start implementing what she taught us…literally changed the way I hit the ball (in a great way, of course)!! I can’t stop bragging about this tennis resort and hope I get to visit it again someday on another vacation!! I highly recommend playing here!
Very friendly,welcoming facility. Staff goes above and beyond in setting up matches. Courts are very well maintained. People that go there are fun,happy,friendly. Best facility I have been to on Maui. Will definetly recommend this facility.
The Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch is the best place to play tennis when your visiting on Maui. The staff will arrange matches depending on your tennis leveL..

Awsome club starting with the courteous & informative employees who set up matches, the helpful pros…..and the beautiful well maintained courts. (Not to mention the unbeatable location!) This is the friendliest and most acommodating club on Maui!
Awesome tennis vacation made possible by Tennis Instructor Kaz whose experience, superb teaching abilities, and expert knowledge of the game are world class. I would highly recommend Sensei Kaz to any tennis player at any level for instruction. Brenda who runs the club is super organized and a wealth of tennis and non-tennis information. We are so very grateful to both Kaz and Brenda for a vacation of a lifetime. We look forward to returning to the Royal Lahaina tennis family for another vacation soon! 🙂
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They set up the match for you and all you do is show up to play! They are very good at putting correct levels together for competitive play. They even call you the day before to confirm the match and provide towels and cups/water on court. Love playing here in Maui!!!
My husband and I travel to Maui a few times each year. We stay at Maui Kaanapali Villas, which is located directly next door to the Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch. Upon our return, we are recognized and greeted with the spirit of Aloha. We play several days each week, on gorgeous, well-maintained courts. The staff is so friendly and helpful, and does an amazing job of arranging both singles and doubles matches, according to our abilities, during our stay. There are 3 pros on site giving lessons and holding clinics, at extremely reasonable prices. Kudos to the head pro, Kaz Yamanoha, for keeping the integrity of the clinics high, without forgoing the fun aspects of playing with folks you’ve never met. The pro-shop has everything you might need, including re-stringing. I look forward to returning every trip. I’ve done my share of travelling, but nowhere comes close to this Resort.
The Royal Lahaina is a tennis player’s dream! You call the club; give your ranking; tell them whether you want to play women’s doubles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles, or singles; show up; and you have a fabulous match. The courts are in perfect condition; the staff is friendly and helpful; and the pros give great instruction and clinics.
This is the best facility visited . They do match play. Have three excellent teaching pros. They restring to your specifications. Great Ambiance.
The Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch is located at the Royal Lahaina Resort at Kaanapali Beach, Maui, Hi. It is my favorite place to go for tennis on Maui. For about ten years , I have enjoyed meeting and playing with local players and tennis buffs from all over the world. The staff is very efficient arranging matches for players with the same abilities whether it’s singles, doubles, or mixed. The cost is very reasonable and the facility is well-maintained. They also have pros on staff for lessons and clinics. If you’re bringing your racket, this should be your first stop to sign up!
THE best group of people run this tennis “ranch”! They are always friendly and very accommodating. They arrange tennis matches according to abilities/requests. Just a pleasure to visit or join this club. Low key and comfortable.
