The newest addition to the ever denser cluster of tennis resorts and camps in Mediterranean Spain is the Vilas Tennis Academy. Guillermo Vilas is of course the Argentinian winner of four Grand Slams, one Masters, and more than 80 ATP singles and doubles titles. He has hand-picked the coaches for his academy, a complex of 13 red-clay and hard courts a few hundred yards from the Mediterranean.
For adults, the academy runs a year-round, five-day program consisting of two hours of clinics in the morning and two hours of match play in the afternoon, supplemented by fitness training. On the website, you’ll find this listed under the heading “Tennis Holidays,”, though details there are sketchy, other than to indicate that campers stay in an Iberostar hotel.
Vilas himself plans to live part of the year on Majorca. He’ll work mainly with the High Performance juniors, but as an adult you may run into him on campus.

I attended the adult camp whilst on holiday in Palma Nova. The academy was within a minutes walk from my family’s holiday appartment. I booked in for three days from 9-11pm. I could have played in the early evening but family commitments meant I did not avail myself of this service. The morning camp was of groups of 2/3 and the format was to move coaches every 30 minutes so that you had four coaches per day who concentrated on some aspect of tennis. You were exposed to a variety of coaching styles in a short period of time. The coaches were professional and gave good feedback. I enjoyed the camp and was glad to get a hit on holiday
The Vilas Tennis Academy experience really paid off! I decided to send my child a few months ago (one week during October). I’ve been to Mallorca many times and the weather is always great so I thought it would be a nice place to send my 14yo son. Every night he called home saying he was exhausted but happy. He always said he was having fun and improving in some game tactics so he was just looking forward to the next day. And I must admit that the hard work done at the Academy has paid off. Now my child is playing much better than before. He just won a local tournament last week and is now asking me to go back to the Academy! I’m thinking about booking the summer package and joining him on the trip. Vacations in Mallorca while my son is improving his skills and following his passion? Sounds great to me!
