Twenty-four people showed up for a social round-robin on a Monday morning during my last visit to Waterville Valley Resort. The fee was $2/person for members and Waterville pass-holders to cover the cost of balls. Pairings were done by handing out playing cards: as a red 3 I played with another red 3 against the two black threes, and before the morning ended I’d played with or against most of the other players, most of whom seemed to be locals or second home owners.
Terraced into a grassy hillside and surrounded by forested mountains, Waterville’s 18 red-clay courts rank, among the most beautiful places I’ve played. The resort encourages guests to take advantage of the tennis and many other outdoor activities by offering a special “Summer Unlimited” package through several of the lodges and condominiums. The pass that comes with it affords everyone in the room complimentary access to everything from tennis and golf to bike rentals, athletic club facilities, watersports on the pond, the chairlift to the top of the mountain (where there are hiking and mountain biking trails), and even ice skating. With so much recreation available, it’s comforting not to have to think about cost each time you take up an activity.
The resort itself huddles in the valley. At its core stands a Town Square, a collection of shops and restaurants set beside a pond that spills over a rocky flume into a creek. Inns, lodges, and condo complexes fan out around it.

As a Swiss girl, I found the Waterville Valley Tennis Center incredibly welcoming.
The people are genuinely kind and highly talented, which greatly helped me improve.
I made significant progress in a short amount of time, thanks to Tom Gross, who is truly an outstanding teacher.
He made everything clear and easy to apply.
I honestly regret not living there, as I would definitely take lessons every day.
Overall, this was an amazing experience, and I look forward to returning and taking more lessons.
Tennis Instruction 11/10
Location 10/10
Fun factor 10/10
Firstly should start by saying Tom is a truly outstanding instructor.
The main idea of our stay was to get coaching for our 8 year old son (“Jaimo”). He had some good shots but had issues with the forehand and we hadn’t made much progress with the serve. Tom totally transformed both shots in 3 sessions as well as significant improvement on his volley. And he made it so much fun! I don’t think my son has ever enjoyed coaching that much.
My wife (complete beginner) and myself (previously played a lot but rusty) also did the adult clinics and we both achieved quite frankly amazing results. Tom’s clinics were just masterful – he is really able to get everyone improving at the same time and his sense of humor and fun are very infectious. Tom clearly has a lot of experience playing and teaching at the elite level and he is able to take those nuggets and communicate them effectively to all player levels. He is also the best feeder of the tennis ball I have ever seen.
In conclusion can’t recommend WV tennis enough and we’ll hopefully be back soon.
Waterville Valley Tennis Center is a wonderful tennis facility with great pros and staff.
My wife and kids and I, spent a family week at Waterville Valley and we all signed up for tennis clinics ; I ended up in a couple private lessons too. I have been playing tennis for 40 years and figured I had nothing to learn but TOM brought me back to and beyond my peak form.
He fixed my serve, forehand and greatly improved my volleys in a couple hours.
His instruction is amazing, fun and inspiring. The facility and views are fantastic and dreamy. We can’t wait to go back.
The Athletic Center and pools are awesome and having indoor courts was perfect for a couple rainy days.
We actually went home to Connecticut and a few weeks later I ended up winning our local summer Open Men’s Double tennis tournament !!! Thank you Tom !!!
Can I give this resort 10 stars? Tom is a tennis genius. I started the summer at a pretty basic level and improved tremendously thanks to Tom’s smart clinics. My forehand, backhand and volley all got so much better. Plus, I saw all my fellow students improve in just 1-3 clinics. He gives thoughtful, tailored advice that helps each player improve, no matter the level they come in on, instead of the robotic, generic tips I’ve gotten elsewhere. He’s able to convey everything from form to strategy in an accessible, fun way. I’m almost reluctant to go to any other coaches this fall. Plus, the clay courts are really nicely maintained. Highly recommend!
Enjoyed my time at Waterville Valley Tennis. Spent 3 days playing tennis and taking daily clinics. Tom’s clinics were excellent. He provided constructive instruction in a kind and gentle way. Looking forward to going back and staying longer.
Excellent instructions, friendly staff, great clay courts!!
Beautiful red clay courts surrounded by mountains. Just had a clinic with Tom and it was excellent. Tom picked up little things we were doing wrong and works with us to improve them. The lesson is enjoyable and the time is well spent.
My husband and I took a couple of clinics with Tom and he was excellent. He was able to identify and correct our technique and he made the sessions fun and exciting! Highly recommended!!
Great experience on the tennis court. Tom, the instructor, was very helpful and really helped my game.
Most amazing views at any tennis court anywhere!
The tennis at Waterville Valley is fantastic, thanks to the exceptional instruction and enthusiasm of Tom Gross, Jr. Tom is a phenomenal coach. He’s positive, insightful and is able to break things down to achieve results quickly. We stayed for a week and wish we could have stayed longer. We certainly would love to come back. Tom gave fantastic coaching advice on our serves, among other things. His clinics are small – 4 people max – because he actually evaluates what everyone needs to work on and then works on it. The clinics aren’t just a lot of ball hitting as so many clinics are at other places – it’s individualized instruction too. Call well in advance to sign up because with that number of spots, the clinics can fill up. The courts are beautiful – red clay, very well maintained. There are two indoor carpet courts at the Waterville fitness center for the days it rains. In short, we highly recommend Waterville Valley tennis and can’t thank Tom enough for the experience.
Beautiful views! Great coaching!
Tom can analyze and improve one’s stroke in a session. I definitely became a better player after only a couple of clinics. I also loved to see that he can make it a great learning experience even when different level players sign up for the class. I strongly recommend coming to the clinics.
Phenomenal instruction and coaching! One lesson with Tom is like 10
elsewhere. Our kids loved it.
The pros are incredibly talented and offered feedback that I hadn’t received from any other pros in my time playing tennis, which was incredibly helpful! The video analysis was very helpful. In addition, I found myself saying “I love this drill” to every single one we did. Duncan and his team are high energy, funny, and truly committed. The views are picturesque with the beautiful white mountains surrounding you. The only downside, honestly, to the outdoor courts was that the bathroom facilities is a porta potty. Highly recommended and I know I will plan to be back!
An excellent program. Great instructors. Fun and educational in a beautiful setting
We had such a great time! Thanks Duncan and staff!
The highly experienced staff provides topnotch, expert instruction with friendly, personalized attention tailored to each individual, all delivered in a relaxed, fun context. Your skills and game will definitely improve regardless of your existing level of expertise.
Great family, get away, and Tom Gross, who runs the tennis program, is the best! One lesson with Tom is like a month of practice and instruction anywhere else.
Highly recommended. Lots of detailed instruction and feedback on my individual strengths and weaknesses. They videotaped some aspects and then went over the videos with us individually which was a huge help. I came away with a few good pointers to work on. It was also a lot of fun; I didn’t want it to end! Will definitely be back next year if possible.

Great tennis, great fun!
JJ and Duncan were wonderful, very personable and great instructors! Would recommend!
I love this place, have been coming back year after year since I was a kid. Tommy G taught me all I know about tennis.
Thumbs up. Great instruction, fun atmosphere. Highly recommended.
What a great weekend we had with Duncan and JJ in stunningly beautiful Waterville Valley. Their instructional approach hits the right balance in finding a few take home points for further attention, without sacrificing fun on the court. Nor do they overload players with a long list of what to do differently, which I find can inhibit actual learning. It’s the next step that they focus on, something achievable in the near term. The on-court instruction was nicely enhanced by worthwhile video sessions, better than most I’ve experienced in the past. Overall, New England Tennis Holidays is highly recommended, and I doubt anyone will be disappointed.
loved Tom Gross!
Tom’s tennis lessons are phenomenal. The view is spectacular.
Tom Gross gives outstanding tennis instruction, as invested in improving my game as I am
This is my second year at Waterville Valley with Tom. He is a fantastic pro and sees deeply and clearly into your game with expert analysis. Really improved my backhand and serve.
The tennis pro Tom was exceptionally patient with me as I played for the first time. He thoroughly explained the necessary techniques in a very low pressure and fun way. I learned a ton in 90 minutes and can’t wait to go back for another clinic!!!
Tennis lessons with Tom were exceptional. The style of coaching and methods used to motivate and teach were phenomenal. Also, there were ample tennis courts available and all very well maintained.
Duncan and his staff were excellent; gregarious, knowledgable, enthusiastic and encouraging – all the qualities one would hope for in a tennis coach. The drills were well thought out and executed, balancing work and fun. Duncan, Eric, Rob, Duncan and JJ all used different methods but they meshed well and they were able to accommodate a myriad of levels amongst the participants. The setting was superlative. Red clay foreground and majestic green mountains for a background. Duncan was available at odd hours and went the extra mile, accommodating me and my wife’s lodging questions. He even had excellent dining recommendations. My only regret is that our stay wasn’t longer.
Fantastic Coaches!! They want to.make sure you take home the things you learned! Great variety of drills and games!! 4th coming here!
Tom Gross is a great instructor.
Our group had a great experience and learned a lot about our strengths and weaknesses. Being videotaped was very helpful with an expert pro highlighting what we were good at and what we needed to work. Nice group of pros and participants with a great up beat attitude. We are looking forward to going again next year!
Thoughtfully organized program, experienced coaches, good ratio coaches per campers. Sticking to time, providing video analysis and customizing the experience as much as possible so that every participant could get away with something specific to work on. Fun, entertaining, great value for cost. Great location, good food (lunch) options and overall great atmosphere. Can’t point weaknesses as have not been to other camps yet so nothing to compare to.
Amazing tennis weekend! Gorgeous location, great coaching staff & programming and a really nice and friendly group of attendees. Coach to player ratio was wonderful and video swing analysis was also very helpful. Great value for the money and looking forward to returning!
This was the perfect tennis camp/holiday we were looking for. The instruction was excellent and very personable. The location was beautiful. This accommodations are clean, convenient and fine. They are not high end, but you come to this program for the excellent tennis which renders any quibbles with the accommodations moot. We loved it and plan to return again and again and again……
The Team at Waterville Valley was fantastic! Tom Gross Jr., the head pro, rebuilt my game in just 9 days in a way that I will forever be grateful! I have never worked with anyone who has so much tennis skill themselves and is also a superbly gifted teacher.
I’ve been participating in Tom’s clinics for years and appreciate the passion, consistency and patience he brings to tennis instruction. He is able to seamlessly run clinics with a wide variety of skill levels so both the novice and expert players get their money’s worth. It’s hard to imagine a more picturesque venue in which to play…you are surrounded by gorgeous views of the White Mountains. It’s worth noting that the clay courts are fastidiously maintained; they are watered as needed to reduce dust and groomed as needed every morning and later in the day as needed as well. Pickleball is not an option at these courts.
Picking up tennis as an adult, I joined a local tennis club and take clinics and private lessons. Here in Waterville Valley on vacation I decided to check out the tennis scene. To start with the courts are gorgeous–the red clay makes you feel like you’re playing at Roland-Garros except you’re surrounded by beautiful mountains. This setting has got to be tough to beat, plus in the summer, the weather in NH is perfect for any outdoor sport. I took a clinic and private lesson with Head Pro, Tom Gross. Tom is fun, engaging, and clearly a master tennis coach. He really cleaned up my game and is the only coach I’ve had who has given pointers on my serve that allow for consistency and confidence. I’ll be visiting him for a lesson whenever I’m in the Valley. Played in a Social Round Robin today and it was a friendly, welcoming and super fun scene. Met a lot of great players and was able to arrange for future matches. So overall, gorgeous courts and setting, expert instruction, and robust social playing scene. If tennis is not your thing there are countless other outdoor activities in the area and a picturesque town square with frequent live music and events and quaint shops and restaurants. Waterville Valley has it all.
We love Waterville valley!! It’s beautiful, everyone is friendly, and there is tons to do for adults and kids
We love going to Waterville Valley Resort! The main draw to this resort are the clay tennis courts. They are kept in excellent condition and are always available to play on. Tom Gross and his clinics are informative and easy to follow-he really does build upon what a player has. The Round Robin socials are a great way to meet other players and enjoy playing matches. The fitness center and pool offer additional fun and relaxation. This resort has all you need for a vacation with incredible views!!
Tom Gross runs an outstanding set of programs at the Waterville Valley Tennis Center. The clay courts are pristine and the scenery is breathtaking. Tom is a superb instructor able to move individuals to another level in one or two sessions. He can see the exact problem and he demonstrates the solution so effectively, all with humor and fun along the way. My husband and I both experienced significant results after just 3 group clinics – amazing!
Tom Gross is an incredible teacher. I hadn’t played tennis since prepandemic, and I’ve never gotten much beyond advanced beginner though I love the sport. After one lesson with Tom, my forehand had improved considerably. After 3 clinics, I was serving consistently and my forehand, backhand and volleys were so much better. In a doubles match, I hit 4 winners at the net I would never have gotten before that. He’s a thinking person’s instructor, which fits my learning style — giving tips tailored to your game to make the most of it. Highly recommend!
I was just here for a tennis clinic. I was not staying at the resort. Just fulfilling my tennis needs while at another location about 20 miles away. Best lesson I had all year. I was corrected in this one lesson without asking to be corrected. Tom knew exactly what was needed to correct my stroke. Once he simplified it for me showing me visually what needed to be done, I was able to apply it and correct my stroke for both forehand and backhand. Now I’m more consistent on placing the ball where I want it to go. A big Thanks to Tom. All strengths here, no weaknesses.
We love Waterville Valley tennis! Courts are in the most beautiful setting with views of the mountain and fresh air. Clinics are predictable and it’s a great place to learn how to play. Round robins welcome visitors and locals. A great place to live, regularly vacation and visit!
We love New England Tennis Holiday! Duncan and his team of pros are very knowledgeable and fun! Days are well planed, with just enough predictable structure and variety. Videotaping and providing feedback on a shot of the day is their specialty. Ratio of pros to campers is always excellent. Highly recommend!
My husband and I have attended many tennis camps and both agree that Duncan’s instruction is by far the best we have experienced. His friendly, upbeat attitude, patience, and the variety of drills and games offered made the five hours of daily tennis fly by. Plus, the setting is truly beautiful — we plan on returning!
I had a great experience participating in a tennis camp in June 23. The tennis courts have a fabulous view of the mountains. Playing on clay courts with greenery and mountains on all sides is a spectacular experience. The tennis lessons are well organized. Many activities are available outside tennis. Overall a great experience.
My first time attending a 3-day clinic at NETH and the camp surpassed my expectations. Each morning focussed on a particular technique and was reinforced throughout the day and with afternoon point play. The biggest takeaway for me was the video analysis of the key strokes and I learned a lot about how to improve my play. The session was full with other tennis enthusiasts and the level of play was very competitive. Duncan, JJ and Nick all worked well together, providing individual corrections where needed while keeping the sessions light and fun. I look forward to returning in the future.
Waterville Valley is a great place to play outdoor tennis on red clay courts with the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire setting the scene. The mid-week tennis socials and the weekend round robins are fun and the tennis instruction by Tom Gross is excellent.
The well-maintained red clay courts are in a beautiful setting. The Head Pro, Tom Gross, is by far the most knowledgeable and skilled tennis pro I have ever worked with. He builds upon your strengths, always finds ways to improve my game, and creates a friendly and fun atmosphere.
Great place for tennis. Plenty of red clay courts and exceptional instruction from the pro, Tom Gross. Highly recommend.
Waterville Valley is a hidden gem in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. If you are looking for a tennis vacation, there is no better place to book from June-September and if you are interested in private, semi-private lessons or group clinics be sure to contact head pro Tom Gross to book. For restaurants, I would recommend Coyote Grill who has a phenomenal chef and seasonal menu that is sure to please. Enjoy!!!
My family has a place in Waterville Valley and are all avid tennis players. Whenever we visit, we always end up at the tennis courts, playing on their beautiful indoor courts and finishing at the Coyote Grill for a fabulous meal and the best service. We love it so much that Sean has even catered special events for us! The tennis courts and all the activities around them make for such a fun social atmosphere! P.S. Check out the Pro Shop. You can’t leave without a great sweatshirt!!
Outstanding tennis just two hours north of Boston, unbelievable, tennis lessons, surrounded by beautiful, serene mountains, 18 Clay tennis courts in beautiful condition, we had a great experience there last summer, and heading back again this summer, it’s the people that make a Resort! Great people to play with, and lots to do outside tennis, hiking, mountain, biking, road, riding, fishing, kayaking, great restaurants, and all-around beautiful little spot, nestled in the mountains. Highly recommended.
NETH under Duncan is completely revitalized and an outstanding tennis experience. The Pros are fantastic. They keep it fun and challenging, and they really care about you getting better. They video you and critique your form (nicely!), they give you drills, they set up point drills, and they have you play matches. The “Beat the Pros” warm-up drill is a camp favorite. Lots of running around, but also with purpose. The setting is amazing, surrounded by mountains, and the courts are well maintained. The accommodations are mostly for skiers, so pretty basic. I highly recommend for most anyone. Absolute beginners can be accommodated I think, but it’s probably not going to be that much fun unless you’ve had a few lessons before you get there. Overall, I can’t say enough good things about the place, especially since Duncan took over last year.
Been attending NETH for a number of years with the same group of friends. Wonderful instructors, great tennis, and a gorgeous setting. 100% recommend.
First time at Waterville was last year, but heading back again this year. Duncan and the staff are fantastic and really make for a great getaway. Lots of tennis, laughs, inclusion at whatever level you need. They find a way to include all different levels and keep it challenging. Want to be in a great setting? They have that aplenty; try to stay focused on the ball though. The staff will mix it up and make sure as an individual or a group you are all having fun. Everyone in our group wanted to book next year while we were still there.

While vacationing in Waterville valley, I took one lesson with Tom Gross. After just a few minutes of hitting he made a few suggestions to improve my shots, and the outcome was stunning. This one hour was transformational for me, and several of my shots have significantly improved. I highly recommend lessons with Tom if you happen to be in Waterville valley. And the facilities are top-notch….
I can’t recommend Waterville Valley enough. I went on the recommendation of my friend (and local Rhode Island tennis coach). We had a super comfortable and easy stay at the Golden Eagle lodge (which comes with a coupon card that gives discounts all around the resort). The sports center with pools and all dining options were great. We are even typically a challenging group because we’re vegan but there were plenty of options for us for a long weekend. The tennis facility is located between gorgeous mountain views and it’s all clay. The instructor was super knowledgeable and was able to take a group of mixed players and give us all a great experience at the same time. I also enrolled my small children in the junior clinics and they had a blast! I cannot wait to return (and even chatted with the local realtors up there). Also, I forgot my jacket in the pro shop and the instructor was kind enough to mail it back to me. Does service get better than that? TENNIS PUN INTENDED!
Tom Gross did a great job with our group lesson. I would absolutely do it again, he is a superb educator and instructor.
Highly recommended! Enjoyed the clinics run by Tom Gross and playing on the red clay.
Great tennis resort! Amazing tennis instructor! Clinics are fun and incredibly helpful. Courts are surrounded by beautiful scenery. A must go tennis destination!
Tom Gross is the best.
My partner and I only had a day to spend in Waterville Valley on our trip through the mountains. The views, the courts, and especially the time spent with Tom were a vacation highlight.
Excellent tennis instruction with Tom Gross, excellent weather, great clay courts. Learned so much in 4 day 1 1/2 hour sessions. Great all around vacation spot for adults and kids.
If you are going to visit Waterville Valley you have to take a lesson with the head pro, Tom. He has worked with the best of the best in the industry and his teaching techniques are phenomenal. And the view from the courts is spectacular.
The Waterville Valley Tennis Center is tremendous. Lots of well kept courts with a beautiful panoramic view. The tennis pro, Tom Gross, is phenomenal. He works with what you have and you see the immediate results. He makes the clinics and private lessons lots of fun while working you hard. Pro shop is small but has everything you need. When you are done with tennis, Waterville Valley offers lots of other activities like pickleball, paddle boarding, kayaks, hiking, biking, relaxing at the great athletic center’s indoor and outdoor pools. We like the nine hole golf course as well. Our favorite part is just parking our car when we arrive and walking or biking to all the activities Waterville has to offer. Just enjoyed a great weekend with another family in the Valley.
Wherever you live, visiting Waterville Valley is always a treat for tennis lovers and non-tennis lovers alike. Even if you aren’t really into tennis, you could always try pickleball and go to the many awesome locations. The Scenery is beautiful, full of lush green mountains and hills. In the tennis resort, it has 18 different clay courts, all very well kept and in pristine condition. In the pro shop, the keepers always greet you with a smile and a wave. The instructors are awesome, always knowing multiple aspects of the game and always making sure everyone improves to some degree before letting people go. The pro shop has everything a tennis player could need, from merch to hats. All in all, an excellent resort and a must-see for all!
18 beautiful red clay courts set at the base of a mountain. Very relaxed atmosphere in the clinic but Tom Gross hones in on key points to help your stroke and your mental game. Convenient to Boston and highly recommended.
What an amazing spot. Breathtaking scenery in the White Mountains. Tom, the tennis pro, is an amazing coach. He had me hitting better in an hour, while laughing the entire time. Can’t wait to get back.
Everything is exceptional about NETH. Duncan and his staff did a superb job during a three-dasy camp that my three doubles partners and I attended. Anthony and JJ are excellent instructors who took the time to work with each of us individually, as well as a group. Can’t speak highly enough about them.
I really love this place! It’s not too far. 2-1/2 to 3hours drive from Providence. The mountains in the background look so wonderful. I like the different drills they have which help us with different parts of our game. They also do video’s of us executing our forehands, backhands, serves. This is so good. It really helps to understand what you can improve since you can see this on the video. I really like it there and have been going 10 years I think!! I recommend it highly.
Duncan and his assistants JJ and Anthony, provided some of the best coaching we have ever had. They are all very nice, know how to give constructive feedback that wasn’t overwhelming, make the drills/games fun and have tennis tips that most of us had never heard before. It blew our minds how much we learned on the first day, then the second day surpassed the first! Gorgeous, peaceful area with so many things to do outside. Must stop by the DAM Brewhouse in Campton good; Mad River Coffee has excellent coffee and food.
The head pro and owner is a large part of the experience, friendly, very knowledgeable and most of all an amazing master-coach. The courts are surrounded by the picturesque White Mountains. You’ll have a lot of fun and learn a lot from a very experienced coach.
We have been visiting Waterville Valley Tennis Center a few times a year since we discovered it in 2019. The tennis center has 18 tennis courts with superb views of the mountains, and it is run by Tom Gross. You can sign up for clinics or private lessons (individual or group) at the tennis center for a fee or be matched with a partner if you just need someone to play with. Tom is a world-class tennis coach, and he has been helping me a lot with my volleys, serves, and mental game. Waterville has lots of activities, but tennis was the draw for us, and it exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend visiting Waterville Valley Tennis Center and a lesson with the legendary Tom Gross!
Beautiful setting. Great courts. Tom Gross is an excellent instructor. Friendly staff. Nice people (visitors and residents).
We absolutely love the resort and the area, so much so that we’ve been thinking about buying a place nearby. Unfortunately for us, we are not the only ones! Everyone who experiences the Waterville Valley Resort falls in love with it.
Tom Gross is an exceptional teaching Pro. I’ve had instruction from some of the world’s best doubles players (including grand slam winners) and Tom immediately noticed a flaw in the way I was hitting a one-hand backhand that no one had ever mentioned to me. It was easily corrected and made an immediate difference in depth and consistency. Hardly any more unforced errors after correction. Thank you, Tom!
This is our third tennis camp with New England Tennis Holidays!!! We LOVE their program!! It’s so much fun and outstanding instruction!! Dave, Chris and Duncan are great tennis teachers and we learned so much!! So grateful to have this wonderful experience!!! Thank you to Kurt and Clare!!
Excellent instruction with plenty of individual coaching within the group setting. The coaches were very knowledgeable, accomplished and patient with the variety of skill levels in the camp. The drills were diverse, skillful and fun. Because of rain, we used the indoor facility which was very nice. In pleasant weather, I can picture how the mountain setting surrounding the outdoor clay courts provides a beautiful back drop. We stayed at the Valley Inn. The accommodations were very nice and reasonably priced.
The Waterville Valley Resort and tennis center is a true gem. I can’t think of a more picturesque place to play. I love their clay courts in a scenic spot on the valley floor surrounded by 4000 ft peaks. Tom Gross is an exceptional teacher and coach and gave me the best lessons I’ve ever had. He is committed to improving your fundamentals and he has an engaging and positive style that makes you want to learn and improve. The tennis community in the valley was very open and welcoming to vacationers and I had no trouble finding matches and having a great experience. It’s a special place.
I had an excellent private tennis lesson – some of the best instruction I have ever had. Very skilled at observing and assessing my game and making just the right recommendations and adjustments to get me hitting well and consistently. The courts are well maintained and plentiful.
Waterville Valley Tennis has been a real highlight for me these last 2 summers. Tom gives so many great pointers to improve my game. Love his instruction. Social tennis was really fun . Everyone was so nice. Can not wait till next summer for my next trip up!
Our family of 6 tennis players had a great time in Waterville Valley. We rented a house near the tennis center for two weeks. My kids participated in the kids clinics, my teens took lessons, and my husband and I participated in adult clinics, lessons, and the round robins which happened four times a week. It was a very easy place to connect with other players and a very welcoming community. We got really great advice that has stuck with us — we have been asking ourselves “What would Tom say?” regularly since our time there.
Tom Gross provided the most understandable tips that immediately improved my game in my 40 years of taking tennis lessons around the world. I live in Houston and am a 4.25 level player. I highly recommend Tom Gross and Waterville Valleys smooth playing red clay courts to have fun and improve your game.
We wanted to get out of the heat and play tennis. Tom Gross is an amazing pro really helped my game. The courts are red clay and are well maintained. I recommend this place for a fun getaway.
This was the second NE Tennis Holidays Camp that I have attended in 2021. The program was over 3 days and had daily focus on specific types of shots and different play situations. The instruction is very precise with individual feedback that builds on what you are currently doing well, rather than a wholesale retooling of your game. The camp is held on the red clay courts in Waterville Valley NH, a tremendously beautiful location and had 2 indoor courts that were used on the last day, due to rain.
Stunning scenery and the courts were in great condition, even after days of rain. Tom was a great instructor who knows exactly how to improve your game. Overall a really great place and experience.
Terrific time at NETH at Waterville. Coaches were excellent and really knew their stuff. Beautiful setting, red clay courts and a good indoor facility – we had one day of rain. Probably the best instruction I’ve ever received, complete with video analysis of FH, BH, volley & serve. Instructors were friendly and encouraged everyone to have fun while making insightful adjustments to strokes and footwork. Overall, an A++ experience.
Had a great weekend in the heart of the White Mountains. The scenery is so beautiful, you’ll stop mid-game to enjoy. Friendly staff, captained by the legend, Tom Gross. I’m a solid 4.5 and his tune up of my game was just what I needed.
High level instruction, fun atmosphere
Everyone is there for the same purpose, to get better and perfect your skills. The team staff was extremely experienced, they kept the tennis moving along from day to day. This was my first experience for tennis camp and I along with my 3 wonderful ladies had a fabulous time. I believe moving forward we will be doing this camp every year! Great people and professional!.
The lodging exceeded my expectation. Everyone was extremely nice and friendly. The facility was not the modern style but was kept meticulously clean. The tennis camp was an excellent experience. All the pros are very helpful and provided valuable suggestions on all sorts of little things to improve our games. These are things that I was not aware of but that little tweak made big difference in control and skill. I would recommend the New England Tennis Holiday camp to anyone who is looking to improve their tennis games. Kurt and the entire staff are exceptional.
Great coaching staff! I learned so much in such a short amount of time. The courts were beautiful with amazing views of the NH mountains. We stayed at the Valley Inn in one of the two bedroom units and it was perfect for our small group to enjoy some rest and relaxation after a full day of tennis.

Tom was a great instructor. He did not overwhelm me with changes, but made slight adjustments each day. By the 4th day my forehand and backhand strokes had improved greatly. My serves now have quite a bit more power and accuracy. Will certainly do more private lessons later this summer.
This is a great tennis camp! The pros are excellent very friendly, professional, and make the 5 hours of tennis camp very enjoyable. The pros should separate those that travel with other people so people can play with everyone and not the same people.
The program was very organized and welcoming. Felt like I was able to improve my skills.
The tennis clinics by Tom Gross are outstanding. He gives phenomenal feedback and my strokes and general game-play really improved. He is encouraging and always keeps the drills engaging and challenging.
I absolutely love Waterville Valley!! From the moment you arrive, you know you have entered a truly special village. It’s amazing to be able to find peace & tranquility while at the same time having so many activities available for people of all ages. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and accomodating. It is not heavily commercialized like other vacation spots which is refreshing today. I could spend all day, every day on the tennis courts! I thoroughly enjoy the private lessons and the tennis clinics run by Tom Gross, Jr. as he a great person and the best tennis coach! As far as I am concered, Waterville Valley is the gem of New England!
At the Waterville Valley Resort, there is this awesome tennis pro, Tom Gross Jr. (USPTA), who can really teach tennis in a simple and easy way. Previously, I have been to various world-renowned tennis camps in Florida and Barcelona, Spain. Nevertheless, I find Tom Gross Jr. in Waterville Valley, NH to be the best pro I have ever met so far. Trust me: he really knows what he is doing. His explanation is very succinct, articulate, and easy to follow. I was also extremely impressed by the 14-year-old kid named Eddie who was ranked #1 in New England and, of course, taught by guess who? Tom Gross Jr. I wish Coach Tom Gross Jr. all the best in years to come.
A low key experience in a gorgeous setting with excellent instruction from Tom. No better place to come in a pandemic than this locale for this sport. Fabulous. Looking forward to next time.
Great, fun atmosphere. Friendly, knowledgeable pros. Great video assessments. A+ for all the pros. They know their stuff and work hard to improve your game.
I attended the Tennis Camp for the first time. It was fantastic – the staff was very attentive and fun. They did a great job critiquing our volleys, forehands, backhands and serves. A very fun experience and I know it will definitely improve my tennis game!
Tennis instruction at WV Resort is high energy and will improve your game immediately. Loads of courts, great instructors and a fun atmosphere. I wish I could be there every weekend.
Tom Gross is an excellent coach. He knows his stuff. He’s personable, fun and great at what he does. He remembers peoples names which is just as important as his superb knowledge base.
The area is beautiful. The tennis center is terrific- multiple clay courts in great condition. I took a group clinic and the coach was great. He pinpointed things i need to work but didn’t try to overhaul my game. He left my strengths alone and helped me improve my weaknesses. I would highly recommend Waterville Valley for a vacation and the tennis center is great fun.
I loved every minute on the clay courts over looking the mountains at beautiful Waterville Valley! My private lesson with the assistant pro Nick was great and the numerous clinics I attended with Head Pro Tom were super fun, challenging and helpful at improving my game. I made some lovely new friends. I will ALWAYS schedule time for tennis on all my return trips to Waterville.
You get off the main highway 93 and travel for 15 minutes where the road ends in a paradise named Waterville valley , set in a beautiful bowl in the white mountains of new hampshire There are many opportunities for hiking, biking, golf ( not available this summer as a visitor due to covid restrictions ) a ( very) small lake with boating and swimming , an athletic center with indoor and outdoor pools , exerciseroom and two indoor tennis courts and a small “town” center with a few nice shops and eateries. There is a small market but its best to stop at a supermarket before arriving to stock up on groceries For tennis players it is a bit of paradise with many clay tennis courts surrounded by impressive mountains everwhere you look . My husband and I joined two clinics with Tom Gross the head tennis pro and director . He is very friendly and gives a thoughtful analysis of your strokes with simple but helpful tips on how to make improvements without trying to change anything dramatic. There can be a variety of skill levels at the clinics so while Tom works it out quite well , I might choose to book semi private lessons when we come back in the future . If we had had more time there is a board where players leave messages so you can easily arrange games and there is a daily round robin available as well . Overall this place is a tennis players dream This is not a place for fancy food or dress, it is a place of restful beauty with ample opportunities for sport and leisure , one of our very favorites
This is an extraordinarily beautiful setting, a valley enclosed by high peaks with only one way in and one way out. So there is a special sensibility to the place, a little bit of a lost horizon. In the middle of this there are 18 red clay courts, a beautiful 9 hole golf course and a cute miniature village. Biking, hiking, swimming abound. So it’s like being a kid again, a lucky kid. The tennis is first rate, led by Tom Gross and a very nice staff. Tom is an excellent teacher and very congenial to learn with, whatever one’s level. If you are looking for Four Seasons accommodations you are in the wrong place, and probably the wrong state and not amenable to the old northeast outdoor experience that this offers. Having said that, it appears some of the lodges do need updating. In addition, there could be a little more food choices, including perhaps one somewhat more upscale one. But it was also Covid at the time and that was very constraining. This is a very special place.
Tom who is the pro at WV was professional and knowledgeable. Wish we planned more lessons with him. The resort is beautiful, sandwiched between mountain ranges, and there are lots of other activities including wonderful biking. We were with a group of friends so we were able to reserve courts and play. I think we all would have enjoyed participating in clinics during the week if they were offered. The round robin is organized by an affiliated group of locals on the weekend but there is nothing offered by the resort.
Exceptional clinics. Tom Gross brings out the best in you, and after all this time I’m happy to say I have a net game and he re-tooled my serve so I enjoy playing again where I had given up. We vacationed here for years with our children and watched their tennis skills grow over time. Now we’ve gone back with our grandchildren and realized yet again what a wonderful program they have as we watched them play in he junior programs The town, facilities, pond, and pools surrounded by the White Mountains make this a great place. Hiking, mountain biking are right at your fingertips and mountain streams are abundant. Frankly don’t see any weaknesses. We had such a positive experience my wife and I are going back again next week for another round of clinics!
Wow, to find a tennis resort with 18 red clay courts surrounded by beautiful mountains and a staff that was so friendly and helpful was awesome! My wife and I immediately joined some social groups to play mixed, she took multiple clinics, and I took private lessons with director Tom Gross. Each lesson with Tom was “spot on” in terms of suggesting improvements to my game. Final comment was we bought a second home 10 days after arriving for a 5 week vacation. Look forward to years of enjoyment at Waterville Valley Tennis Resort. Ranks at the top of tennis resorts I have experienced!
I didn’t know what to expect being from Texas. I had an amazing experience and the mountains surrounding the tennis courts in the valley were calming and just surreal. Even on a warmer day you can just look up all around you and just be grateful to view the overall surroundings. The tennis clinics improved my game very quickly and met people who will continue to stay in touch for the next year. Tom Gross was the best no nonsense, motivating and consistent coach I have ever had the pleasure to work with…he was relentless to help me fix 2 key weaknesses that had held me back from reaching 3.5. I can still hear his coaching in my head everytime I hit my forehand. He never forgot any of our names and this man was booked solid 12 hours a day on the court. Great experience and energy in a beautiful area of the country surrounded by the White Mountains.
Instructors are talented, fun, engaging, kind, and they always remember your name, too! Instruction is phenomenal and the ratio of pros to students is very good. You are most always playing or learning. The video recording used for additional instruction is extremely helpful. It is used on multiple strokes. I am a return customer and will continue going as long as NETH is around (and as long as I’m around, too!).
These professional tennis instructors made it fun! They gave a lot of great pointers! They gave great instruction on stroke technique and they were very articulate in what you need to change. They gave us things to work on to improve our tennis game. They video taped our strokes and discussed what we did right and where we need to make changes. I would highly recommend their tennis camps!
Setting at Waterville Valley tennis was beautiful and a joy to play at. Participated in tennis clinics with my wife – each of us being at different levels. Tom, head pro, was fantastic and had a real eye for technique. He made great suggestions for both of us to tweak swings/game that led to meaningful improvements. Overall, we had a great time and would enjoy returning.
Decent tennis camp. Attendees tended to be 3.0-3.5 seniors. Location /setting perfect for late summer. Instruction was pretty basic. Camp would have benefited from the use of 3 courts v 1-2 since 12-13 participants.
I attended the adult tennis camp at Waterville Valley NH with John, Chris and Kord. It was fun and challenging and helped me advance my skills. The pros were very patient and very good at instruction with every stroke. I also liked that they taped our drills and we could review them and be critiqued. I would recommend this camp to anyone who wants to hone their skills, play some games, and meet like minded people who like a good competition. I came as a single but felt very welcome with the group.
Good three days of tennis, skilled pros. Well maintained courts. Wonderful use of video app. Great player to pro ratio! Provided breakfast light on protein, lunch was too heavy, no restrooms at the court. All in all New England Holiday Tennis made tasty lemonade from COVID lemons. Will try to attend Sugarbush next year.
My husband and I were at the tennis camp for two and a half days of instruction. I had gone before, and this was his first time. The coaches are very knowledgeable and good at explaining the different strokes/techniques. The small group size was nice, especially because of COVID. What we really liked, was the videotaping of our strokes and the feedback that followed. A picture’s worth a thousand words! we would highly recommend this experience.
MANY well-maintained red clay courts and two excellent indoor courts. Amazing views and many things to do, in addition to great tennis experience. Hiking trails, bike trails, a shuttle bus, Town Center with restaurants, stores, and even a US Post Office.
This was our third year in a row. Talented, energetic, fun tennis professionals!! Super positive. It’s really a spectacular staff!!! We always come away with tips and things to work on. Other campers are also fun and supportive. The facilities are exceptional. Waterville is scenic, but limited food options.
Clare Grabher has done exceptional for arranging a 2020 summer season, when it looked like there would be none. Everything about the weekend was beautiful !! The instructors were high energy and fun and knew how to meet the variety of needs for our group. JJ is a magical instructor. Chris had an extensive skill set. And Duncan’s instruction was relaxed and insightful. The food at the Coyote Grill was top notch. And it was great being with a small group of friends from my home town. Getting video-taped was extremely helpful and a positive experience. And JJ’s trivia questions were outstanding. I also loved using the hot tub and pool after a long day of tennis. I can’t wait for my next tennis camp!!
This is my 3rd year attending an NETH tennis camp. the setting is beautiful, with views of the mountains from the court. The courts are very well maintained red clay. The level of instruction is exceptionally outstanding. There is a well designed progression of instruction, interspersed with short sessions of various game drills. No one is left standing idle for long periods, yet the instructors are also alert to the general energy level of participants and while they do push, don’t push too far. A particular feature of this camp is the video analysis. JJ in particular is very adept at analyzing both good points in a particular stroke, as well as narrowing in on a few weaker aspects and describing how to specifically improve on them. Duncan’s laid back energy contrasted well with Chris’ spark plug. Both also gave excellent feedback and suggestions. They also commented on court coverage and doubles strategy. Highly recommended!

It’s fun. Good teaching tips for improvement. Great scenery would highly recommend it to anyone that loves tennis
My husband and I recently visited Waterville Valley in the beautiful White Mountains specifically to take private tennis lessons with the owner and Pro, Tom Gross at the Waterville Valley Tennis Center. The tennis center has some of the most beautiful red clay tennis courts in the world, that are completely surrounded by a breathtaking view of the mountains. It is stunning. We completely enjoyed our lessons with Tom; he is the consummate professional, whose tennis knowledge is unparalleled. He has a knack of knowing exactly what is needed for you to improve every aspect of your game, and he teaches you in plain terms that players at any level can truly appreciate and benefit from. He is also an incredibly nice person – and we enjoyed our lessons tremendously. We both left feeling more knowledgeable and much more confident in our tennis. We are very eager to return, and I cannot recommend Tom and his magnificent tennis center enough.
The Waterville Valley Resort is an amazing place to vacation! You’re surrounded by beautiful mountains and fresh air. The tennis pros there are great and so friendly. They are super helpful in your tennis game. The staff, too, is super kind and friendly. The pro shop has everything you would need to play simple tennis. However, there are not a lot of people there so it is difficult to find juniors to play with. Nevertheless, the pros are so friendly, they are always able to find solutions.
Most beautiful setting to play tennis. The courts are in the heart of the White Mountains with panoramic views. Spectacular! The tennis pro will help you improve your game dramatically in just a few lessons. I highly recommend Waterville Valley Resort.
Great instruction by Tom Gross, head pro. I learned a lot, even though I have been playing for 35 years and taking lessons almost that long. He still taught me new stuff. Facility is outstanding, Beautiful American red clay courts, well maintained,
Waterville Valley Resort is a very nice resort. My grandkids enjoyed the tennis lessons and the swimming pool. I enjoyed my tennis lessons with Tom Gross. He is an excellent instructor.
Tennis facility and staff are outstanding. great clay courts. Lessons are very impactful, high energy, and fun. Cant wait to get back in the spring.
Waterville valley tennis was an unexpected bonus for us when we purchased a town home in the Valley. We spent a lot of time with Tom Gros the pro and owner and not only improved our game but had a delightful time. It appears you can teach an old dog new tricks. We look forward to many more lessons and playing at this beautiful facility. We have played at many resorts including 5 star and this is our favorite.
Amazing mountain views from the well maintained red clay tennis courts. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The round robins on Fri, Sat & Sunday are a lot of fun and well attended. The Head Pro, Tom Gross, is an excellent instructor and makes the clinics well worth the price. I always learn something that makes me a better player.
Had a great experience at Waterville Valley. We were only stopping through for 3 days but in that short time Tom Gross completely fixed the issues that have been plaguing me all summer. He also did it in a way that was easy to understand and will stay with me for the long term. Kids enjoyed the junior program, but it was the adults that had the most fun. Resort itself has lots of recreation activities outside tennis making it a real destination where you could easily spend a week and really work on your game. Highly recommend mountain biking and swimming in the cascade waterfalls. Overall incredible value in a beautiful setting. We hope to return again.
Beautiful surroundings. Ideal for outdoor loving people. Our family really enjoyed playing tennis on the clay courts. Staff is very friendly and accommodating, especially Tom (tennis director) and Town Square front desk. We all had fun and good memories from the 3-day staying at the resort.
Tom Grosse is a superb instructor. After not playing for many years, Tom got me tuned up in one lesson while sharing tips I had never heard before during many years of competitive play, lots of drills and lessons. Incredibly well worth the time!
The most beautiful setting for any resort. Where can you play tennis surrounded by majestic mountains. 18 clay courts, Pro Tom Gross gives the best clinics and lessons, and there is organized social round robins. I can’t wait to take girlfriends for a tennis weekend.
Waterville Valley is an incredible tennis resort destination. Tom Gross and his staff do an exceptional job with all aspects of a tennis vacation. Terrific groomed courts, a fantastic setting in beautiful New Hampshire, friendly and helpful staff not to mention top notch tennis instruction from a very knowledgable pro who has worked with some of the legends of the game, Laver, Emerson, Hoad, andGonzalez to name a few. I would highly recommend a tennis vacation here, and there are also many other activities at the resort, golf, biking, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing to name a few so bring the whole family.
Great tennis! loved the clay courts, beautiful setting, great coaching
I had the chance to play at the outdoor facility, which is a beautiful facility of over 10 clay courts. They are immaculately maintained and it is a beautiful setting to play tennis. The pro (Tom) was awesome and gave a terrific private lesson – definitely provided a lot of great insights to improve my strokes. It is a wonderful facility and I highly recommend it to people who are coming to Waterville Valley with an interest in tennis.
If you’re afraid of the 2-day camp being too physically tiring, don’t worry, because the staff [of New England Tennis Holidays] do an excellent job of spacing out the instruction with the practice /drills. Also, Waterville Valley courts are clay, which helps a lot with recovery time. They were very well organized and because of that, fit in a great deal of instruction, covering all strokes and much strategy. There was even some individual instruction based upon a video I just wish we could have had more competition, even if only for a set, with doubles or singles. It would have been great, too, to watch the instructors play against each other a bit.
I have been to many tennis camps and resorts that are ranked in the Top 25 on tennisresortsonline.com in California, Florida, New Hampshire and Vermont, and I have only the highest praise for Tom Gross, Jr., who is the Director/Owner/Head Pro at Waterville Valley. He single handedly helped me to go from a 3.5 to an (almost) 4.5 in one year and help me to help my 40yo and over men’s USTA team make the national finals in 2018. Unlike most/almost all other programs, when you take lessons at Waterville Valley, you get direct instruction from the Head Pro, in this case who has decades of experience but still has a very authentic and genuine love of the game and teaching it to the level that the student is willing/able to receive. Waterville Valley is also one of the most beautiful AND reasonably priced tennis resorts in the US. Without qualification, I give it my highest recommendation which is reflected in the fact that I sometime drive round-trip in one day from Boston just to take lessons with Tom.
Been going there for 25 plus years . Beautiful setting with mountains on all sides. 18 red clay courts are finely manicured and well kept thru the day . Lots of activity and the ability to ‘pick up a game’ . Moreover , lessons are available from the Rod Laver-Roy Emerson trained USPTA pro Tom Gross ! I have visited 20 plus tennis resorts over the years and my favorite is WV !!!
Great clay courts, a terrific tennis pro, Tom Gross, and lessons and games going on constantly. Tom ensures everyone gets what they want in lessons and partners to keep the tennis fun and challenging.
I love Waterville Valley. The people are friendly, the town is lively and everywhere you look you see the most picturesque view of the White Mountains. While Waterville is nestled by itself away from it all, there is a ton to do for kids and adults. At the center of the town is the Town Square with outdoor concerts, a man made lake for swimming, renting boats etc. shopping, and a couple of great restaurants. There is a very laid back 9 hole golf course small enough for a beginner but quite a few holes that will challenge any player. There is some awesome hiking, bike trails, kids camps, ice cream socials and a list of events that is posted every week. Now for the best part of Waterville Valley – the tennis! Just outside of the town square sits 20+ extremely well kept and picturesque red clay courts. It is easy to book court time and if you give your phone # and level to the staff at the pro shop they will set you up with a good match with someone in the valley. I have come to Waterville almost every summer since i was a kid and have taken many lessons from the head pro Tom Gross. He’s a great guy, a fantastic coach and makes taking lessons a ton of fun. My kids are still too young for a lesson with Tom but they have enjoyed the group lessons every morning for kids their age. Waterville Valley is without a doubt my favorite place.
We took both a group clinic and private tennis lessons with pro Tom Gross at Waterville this past summer. After being away from the sport for some time, Tom had us hitting like pros again in no time at all. He is one of the best teachers we have ever had. Thank you Tom for getting us back in the groove!
We had a wonderful experience at the Waterville Valley Resort the summer of 2018. Tennis lessons for the whole family in a picturesque setting. The instruction was quality and fun. We can’t wait to go back next summer for more!
the view. the courts are special
Very nice welcoming people in the office and to play with. Tennis social round robin is fun. Well maintained clay courts and often available. Love the community and great hiking, food, kids activities. My son enjoyed the day camp at the school and they arranged great lessons for my 10 year old who now loves the game.
Enjoyed the beautiful amenities ,scenery and professional courteous staff.
We’ve been going up to see Tom for many years, this year we also put our grandchildren in the clinic. I had USTA sectionals coming up and went to have Tom help with my volleys as well as ground shots. It really helped to have his coaching in my head while I was there. So glad to have the opportunity.
