I stayed at a nearby hotel and absolutely loved walking along the golf course pathway every morning to the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club. It was so much fun to play tennis on clay as I rarely get the chance to since I live on the West Coast. What made my experience visiting the area so special was that the tennis pro, Hoy Correll not only helped me improve my serve, but he was able to match me with a group of ladies who play regularly at the club. If I am ever in the area again, I would definitely stop by.

This recent trip to the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club courts, and especially my experience there with Hoy Correll, Jr. continued to confirm that this is still of the highest quality tennis vacation and learning time on the east coast and maybe in the entire US. Every aspect of the experience was pleasing and from a tennis skill development perspective foundational. Thanks to Hoy’s personal and careful regard for each individual’s skill level and needs, both in tennis and as a visitor to the area of Williamsburg itself.

Stayed at the Inn for four days in August 2024. In addition to being upgraded to the magnificent Queen’s Suite I had the pleasure of spending two sessions on court hitting with Hoy, a wonderful resort pro and among the few left in my age demographic. Hoy is a gentleman and congenial hitting partner. I wholeheartedly urge anyone who finds him or herself in the Williamsburg vicinity to book some time with Hoy.

The Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club is a beautiful, place to play the wonderful game of tennis! I’ve been coming about once a year to Colonial Williamsburg and specifically stay here for the great location, lovely amenities, beautiful grounds AND top-notch tennis courts. It is easy to make a reservation, and various courts are available. I loved playing on the clay courts last week and enjoyed a lesson with tennis pro Hoy Correll. He was friendly, encouraging and helped me adjust my serve to make it stronger. Highly recommend! I’m looking forward to going back soon!

Six Har-Tru courts in excellent condition. Meticulously maintained by the tennis professional, Hoy Correll. Beautiful setting adjacent to Colonial Williamsburg.

I really enjoyed meeting and getting a great lesson from the club pro, Hoy Correll. I visit this Williamsburg resort fairly often and will make it a point to take lessons with Hoy whenever I can.

Coach Hoy Correll at the Williamsburg Inn is an outstanding tennis professional. He quickly evaluates your strengths and weaknesses and listens to you about what you want to improve and accomplish with the lesson. He doesn’t put any pressure to change style or swing unless he feels it is an important or necessary change, although when he does hone in on a suggested tweak, he always succeeds with patience and persistence, while at the same time strengthening the skills you already possess. He is marvelous with children and runs many children’s clinics and private lessons. This past year I had two injuries that rendered me unable to play tennis for months. After spending two weeks working with Hoy, returned to MA with the confidence and the ability to start playing again. He is absolutely wonderful, and taking lessons from Hoy has always been one of the highlights of my yearly trips to Williamsburg from Boston. The Inn itself is an outstanding destination lodging that drips with Southern hospitality and Regency style charm. And of course, there is Colonial Williamsburg; an historic treasure trove.

Would highly recommend for a relaxing tennis vacation.

My husband and I have visited Colonial Williamsburg a few times, but this was the first time staying on property and we did that intentionally for the tennis. This summer we ventured to stay at various tennis resorts throughout the US east coast and this stay did not disappoint! It was easy to book a tennis lesson and tennis pro Hoy was very accommodating and flexible considering the uncertainty of getting a late checkout to book a second lesson. Hoy’s instruction was fantastic! We are pretty much beginners but he had us improving our ground strokes and serves almost immediately. Patient and creative, we walked away with an amazing experience and look forward to returning again!

The tennis at the Williamsburg Inn is amazing, the Tennis Pro Hoy is professional and an excellent player and coach. The courts are well groomed and well maintained, and scheduling a court time is always easy and pleasant. The atmosphere at the tennis courts is always welcoming and pleasant. I would recommend this tennis club to anyone from beginner to expert.

If you are planning on a visit to Colonial Williamsburg and you love to include tennis, this is a great place! Our 9 year old granddaughter had a lesson every morning with Hoy and went back home to win her first tournament! We all agreed to return!

Try to schedule time with tennis pro Hoy Correll every time I visit! Enjoy the time, conversation, stag, & always come away with a great feeling!

Grey clay courts perfectly maintained in a peaceful bucolic setting. Never too crowded. The pro, Hoy, is a wonderful hitting coach — Southern charm, good humor, and great pearls of wisdom that have stayed with me for years. Highly recommend.

I stayed for 12 days because of Hoy Correll’s teaching and have been playing tennis for several decades, including college and competitive tournament play, with an attitude there is always more to learn and improve with a competent pro. Hoy is that person, and he went out of his way to accommodate me and also to teach my son in scheduling time, even making contingency plans for bad weather.

  • LS

I booked a lesson with the head pro, Hoy. As I would only be able to take one lesson from him I wasn’t expecting much. I really only took it to get out on the courts during my stay. I walked away so happy I did! Hoy is an excellent instructor, pinpointing small changes you can make to improve your game in a short amount of time. I wish I’d had time to take another. Hoy is definitely a reason to stay at the Inn! Highly recommend booking a lesson with him.

I come to this resort at least once a year sometimes twice. My only regret is that Hoy, the tennis pro, doesn’t live closer to me. I always walk out of a lesson with a better swing, a more efficient and effective serve and overall a great attitude and love for the game! He is calm, effective and very insightful. I see him work with little children and his patience is endless! As for me, I’m mediocre at best yet he always makes me feel amazing!

Once again I reluctantly leave the Williamsburg Inn, and in particular, the wonderful tennis at the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club. I can’t say enough about how wonderful it is in all respects. Hoy Correll, the tennis pro who runs the Club is extraordinary. He is a very skilled instructor and to be truthful, I get more out of tennis lessons with Hoy when I visit Williamsburg from Boston a couple of times a year. He knows exactly how to get the best out of any player, and makes learning and playing so much fun. The Inn is, of course, spectacular, and the courts, (clay and hard courts), at the Club are cared for meticulously. Hoy is a treasure, without a doubt. You should not pass up an opportunity for a lesson with Hoy among the sweet magnolia trees and the mockingbirds and the beautiful colonial town in the background.

The tennis pro (Hoy) was excellent. He was great with my entire family. Caring with my daughters and encouraging. We took private lessons and he was excellent. The facility is terrific and the courts are in great shape….thanks Hoy for making our vacation special and fun.

Excellent Hard-Tru courts, well maintained. Beautiful setting in the woods next to Colonial Williamsburg. The tennis pro, Hoy Correll, is fantastic! Very personable and professional. He took care of all our needs and is a pleasant conversationalist. We played tennis every day and had a wonderful time. Highly recommended.

I’ve come to Virginia a couple times now from Washington and I discovered the tennis club my first time there. It was an amazing experience and Coach Hoy left a huge impression on me. On our second time back this last summer, I was mostly looking forward to working with Hoy again. Definitely recommend for any tennis player, as both their hard courts and clay courts are in prime condition!

We had a nice time playing tennis here for 4 days in Mid-September 2021. The weather was nice and we were able to get a court every morning at our desired time. We were also very strategic about avoiding weekends on our trip, which always helps. I also had a nice lesson with Hoy who got me sweating pretty good and tweaked a couple minor things. The courts are in great shape and I don’t get to play on clay very often so that was a treat. The pro shop has a little bit of everything including stringing if you need it. Quiet and Serene setting within walking distance to everything in Williamsburg.

  • CH

I took my first private tennis lesson with Hoy at the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club. The lesson was fantastic and Hoy was a wonderful teacher. I can’t wait to return for more lessons and I would highly recommend them to everyone!

  • CL

Our experience was exceptional. Our son had both a private lesson and a clinic with Coach Hoy who provided helpful and caring instruction to our young son. The clay and hard courts are pristine and the surroundings are well manicured. The club became one of our favorite memories from our trip to Williamsburg. We told our friends about this tennis club and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

We visited the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club in July and had a wonderful time. This was during the CoVid pandemic and everyone made sure that all the guests were safe/. All surfaces were cleaned and there was no buffet dining. The tennis was great. All of the courts are very well maintained and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I was there with my daughter who is a talented ten-year-old and her cousin who is just learning. The staff made offers for balls and made sure we had a court where we could have our practices without disturbing other players. Everyone is extremely friendly and we can not wait to return! The tennis pro, Hoy Correll .s very well organized and he does his best to get everyone on the court. He is. a very nice and helpful representative. Can not wait to come back!

The Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club is a hidden gem among tennis resorts. This small, quaint club offers a peaceful and serene environment for players of all levels to clear their minds and improve their games. The staff and members are extremely friendly and welcoming towards guests of all ages and skill levels, including families. The small size of the club makes for a more intimate and personalized experience. The pro-staff is very accommodating, and will work with you to set up lessons and hitting partners around your schedule. My family has been coming to the Colonial Williamsburg Resort to play tennis for the past several years. The club’s director, Hoy Correll, always does his best to accommodate our different levels and interests. We have also made so many wonderful friends who we keep in contact with and look forward to playing tennis with again on our next trip. Finally, the club’s location is one of its best features. It’s close to the heart of the historic area, but nestled just out of the way of the busy tourist spots. For me, the best part of playing at the Williamsburg Inn Tennis Club is that quiet moment before the ball is served, when a soft breeze breaks the steady Virginia heat and brings with it the distant sounds of fifes and drums. Truly peaceful, and uniquely Williamsburg.

I recommend the tennis instruction and facilities at the Williamsburg Inn, in Williamsburg, Virginia, with greatest enthusiasm. Tennis Professional Hoy C. Correll, Jr., is an insightful and supportive instructor. My one-hour private lesson with him was one of the highlights of our visit to Williamsburg. Hoy conveyed his suggestions and impressions in a way that was kind, clear, and easy to put into use. For me the opportunity to play and to take tennis instruction on one of the six Har-Tru green clay courts there was a delight. In the tennis shop one can pick up needed apparel or tennis gear that one may have left at home while traveling. The quantity of merchandise available in the shop is limited, but the quality is excellent. At various times when Hoy is not in the shop, he is ably assisted by Jim Wilson. On the covered patio just outside the shop door, I took pleasure in seeing posted on a bulletin board the most recent rankings of the top 100 professionals in both the men’s and women’s tours, and the schedule for major tournaments of the most current two months. Tennis is accorded a position of honor at Williamsburg, plainly. The surroundings are really unique, with historic Williamsburg literally across a quiet road. My friend and I had chosen to visit Williamsburg to stay in historic lodgings in the restored Colonial city. The discovery that the Inn across the road had this jewel of a tennis facility, and that we were welcome to experience tennis there, made a wonderful trip all the more memorable.
