When you think of the Keys, you probably envision the one-lane road south of Miami, ending at Key West. When I think of the Keys, I am immediately taken back to one of my favorite getaways, and a place that I called home for over six years: Sarasota, Florida and Longboat Key.

While it may not be as widely-known, Longboat Key is arguably one of the most stunning and secluded locations in Florida. Picturesque backdrops, perfectly-kept palm trees, and gorgeous residences line Gulf of Mexico Drive, with one side set against the Gulf while the other is tucked up against the Sarasota Bay, and Downtown Sarasota residing in the background. Located just over the Ringling Bridge and beyond St. Armand’s Circle, The Resort at Longboat Key Club welcomes visitors from around the world as well as local travelers, like myself, to their incredible property.
When you enter the property on the Gulf side, you’re immediately greeted by a beautiful oceanfront resort with sweeping waterfront views. Ranging from contemporary guest rooms to 2-bedroom suites, The Resort at Longboat Key Club, part of the Opal Collection, provides travelers with everything they may need to enjoy a coastal getaway. Upon checking in, guests staying on-site immediately gain access to not only an idyllic pool and waterfront oasis just steps from their room, but they also now have the key to a plethora of resort-style amenities and world-class athletic and racquet sports facilities.
While the main guest rooms, several dining options, spa, and beach access are located against the Gulf, perhaps some of the best features of the property are located just four miles away towards the private marina, where travelers will have access to The Tennis Gardens, including Har-Tru courts, a tasty cafe and stocked pro-shop, and one of two championship golf courses, the other of which is located back towards the main resort property.
For racquet sport enthusiasts, the tennis and pickleball courts at The Tennis Gardens are truly immaculate. Featuring over 20 courts as well as a full programming schedule, The Resort at Longboat Key Club offers options for every guest to enjoy their experience both on and off the court. Whether you’re interested in open play, private lessons, or expertly-crafted clinics, you’ll find a program that will suit your preference and your skill level.

However you choose to craft your stay will depend on the duration of your visit, but I highly recommend making your way down the full-length of Longboat Key and gazing at the beautiful residences that line the street. If you enjoy bike riding, Longboat Key is also the perfect setting to take your wheels for a spin, and there are a few bike rental options nearby the property as well.
Dining at the resort is certainly an exquisite experience, but for those seeking to enjoy other local cuisine options, I highly suggest trying to make dinner reservations at some of my favorite locations, such as Shore, Dry Dock, Whitney’s, and Mar Vista. If you head back over towards St. Armand’s, you can enjoy walk-in breakfast and brunch service at Green Zebra Cafe and Blue Dolphin Cafe. Columbia Restaurant is also a local favorite, featuring Cuban food and an iconic 1905 salad that I can’t resist ordering. There’s plenty of shopping surrounding the circle as well, especially if you’re looking to find a piece of island life to commemorate your visit.
For those interested in more of a nightlife and lively scene, Downtown Sarasota has several live music options and a tasteful dining and shopping scene as well. The Saturday morning market along Main St. is also one of my favorites, and it takes place weekly, so you won’t have to worry about missing out. If you have an affinity for watersports, Sarasota and Longboat Key have options for boaters as well as for those who may prefer kayaking and paddle boarding. Or, for guests who love marine life but prefer to stay on land, Mote Marine Aquarium is located just down the road from the resort and is perfect for a family-friendly activity out of the sun.
The Resort at Longboat Key Club is the perfect destination for active travelers as well as for those seeking a rejuvenating experience on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Whether you’re looking for a night away or a week-long visit with friends and family, this destination has an appeal for every traveler. Enjoy daily racquet sports, or simply unwind in an oasis that many seek out year after year. If you’re looking for a sign to book your next racquet sports getaway, I feel like you may have just found it…
