Tips and Insights for Your Visit to Wimbledon

There’s nothing quite like London in the summer. The flowers have bloomed, the streets are buzzing with charm, and the entire city is energetic yet altogether quaint at the same time. From refreshing delights at picturesque cafes during the day to evening buzz at the pubs with the locals, London, and the Wimbledon Village specifically, offer a setting that every traveler can enjoy.

Coming from a team who has experienced the sheer brilliance that is Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the calendar year, we understand that, whilst visiting London is on every tennis fan’s bucket list, it can be altogether quite challenging or daunting to acquire the proper itinerary and ticketing items in order to have the ultimate tennis getaway. In 2025, Tennis Resorts Online (TRO) will be utilizing our resources, connections, and travel planning expertise to provide guests with the experience of a lifetime: the best-of Wimbledon through our Travel Packages.

What You Need to Know About Visiting Wimbledon

First things first: travel. As you navigate London, keep in mind a small yet extremely valuable tip: don’t forget that you’ll be driving on the opposite side of the road; this can prove tricky at first as you’re acclimating, especially if you are planning to bike around the city. This small tip can save you from unexpected surprises during your travels. However, if you’re visiting with TRO, we will have transportation set up for you throughout your package duration.

Next up: food. The culinary offerings at Wimbledon are a delight. With a range of dining options—from upscale restaurants to convenient grab-and-go kiosks—there’s something for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan selections. Be sure to sample the classic Pimm’s, the refreshing staple beverage of the tournament.

Between the tennis: Beyond the event, Wimbledon Village boasts a variety of restaurants, featuring everything from Lebanese cuisine and classic pub grub all the way to fine dining. If you’re in London beyond Wimbledon, be sure to explore the city’s stunning parks for some refreshing exercise, indulge in high tea, and take a bus tour to see as much as possible in a short time, a great neighborhood to visit to some of the best curries is Brick Lane in East London.

Let’s Talk Tennis

While you may hear differing views about what an ideal trip to Wimbledon looks like, we have our notes ready from our many years of visiting. In our opinion, the bustling first week is an incredible first experience as it’s filled with energy and matches on the outer courts. If you attend during the quieter second week, we suggest arriving at or around 10 am to observe the grounds team preparing the courts and soak in the atmosphere. You might even find yourself courtside for thrilling doubles, junior, or wheelchair matches before settling in for the main events on Court 1. Whenever you do choose to attend the immaculate tournament, we suggest concluding your day with dinner in Wimbledon Village at The Ivy or enjoying a classic English pub experience at The Fox and Hound. PS: When you book a travel package with us, we’ll factor in all of these tips into your curated itinerary!

We’re Serving Up Unpopular Opinions

You heard it here first…

While Center Court often takes the spotlight, we tend to hold an unpopular opinion: Court 1 can be just as exhilarating. With no evening sessions until the semifinals, the best matches are often spread across both courts, creating incredible lineups that make for unforgettable viewing.

Recalling It All

While we can recall players like Pete Sampras competing in memorable matches as we gazed at a screen from afar, we were actually able to witness Ben Shelton serve live in 2022 and able to view his speed and discipline while sitting just behind the baseline, showcasing the thrill that makes tennis so captivating. As we recount our memories from last year’s tournament, it’s still surreal that we’re witnessing perhaps some of the best players and up-and-comers compete in person on the only grass Grand Slam event of the ATP and WTA season.

Ticketing Gone Wild

While TRO will have incredible tickets on either Center Court or Court 1 included with your package, we have experienced the phenomenon that is queuing. If you choose to visit before or after your package is slated to begin or end, perhaps you will fully embrace the Wimbledon experience and consider participating in the cherished tradition of queuing for tickets. If you’re on a budget, this is the only way to secure a grounds pass. Arriving later in the day often means shorter lines, with the possibility of no wait at all. However, if you won’t be satisfied without redeeming tickets to Wimbledon, we suggest purchasing tickets for Center Court or Court 1. Another tip to keep in mind – the unpredictable English summer weather makes the roofs over these show courts a lifesaver, ensuring you won’t miss any thrilling matches.
